Every time I see a picture from one of our satellites aimed back at us from what ever moon or planet it's researching, I am just at a loss for words. The pale blue dot, the blue dot with a white dot near it, it just never ceases to amaze me just how small or far we are from these cosmic wonders. And how far humanity has come in terms of space exploration and research.
The most insane part of this is scientists planning its trajectory and having it use gravitational pulls from other planets/the moon to swing it around. NUTS
It is quite simply phenomenal, and incredibly sad, that a group of people on a planet that was really just beginning to come to terms with the post-WWII science and technology surge, managed to pull this off, using planetary gravity to assist in the navigation of the solar system, when here and now, we have a bunch of ungrateful, ignorant morons who can barely put together a coherent sentence, claiming that it's all "Fake", "CGI"... Disgraceful.
HipnikDragomir I thought the same thing. Figuring out exactly where a planet will be months or even years from now so the satellite can orbit at the exact location is mind blowing.

I worked at JPL on the two cameras for Cassini. It was an interesting, challenging, and enjoyable project. Certainly pleased that it all worked so well. That wasn't always the case. So impressive to me is the navigational group that programmed the spacecraft during such a complex journey. I would like to see a video of how they did it.

The Fact it took CASSINI 7 yrs to get there. Might explain what our chances are of going that far into Space. The Fact we can see much further into Space than will possibly ever Reach. We can see Light yrs into space. An probably never get that far. Mars alone is 6 Mo away travel time. Warp Drive is only one method of cutting travel time.

I mean, we created this thing and said farewell to it in 1997 knowing it wouldn't return and yet its mission was so extraordinary and majestic. And just like that, my second week of grade 10, it ended...what an ending to such a beautiful story. To think I was born right when it first approached Saturn and started grade ten when it burned up is mind boggling to me, Idk why... So beautiful
I love how you mentioned all the major accomplishments that Cassini-Huygens made. That thing was really breathtaking, and just when you mentioned the Grand Finale, I felt something in my heart. I tracked every single thing about Cassini since I discovered it a few years before the mission ended. I was so sad and proud at the same time when the spacecraft finished it's last task and then plunged into Saturn's atmosphere. Who would think that a $3.26 billion piece of metal could do such great things for us and reach our hearts? Great video, it's truly a gem for me

I’ve seen the jets of water spewing out and instantly freezing described as “cryovolcanoes” and it’s fascinating to see how the same kind of physical / geological behaviors like tectonics apply on worlds with vastly different chemistry, in this case the liquid water under the ice crust having similar properties to molten rock on earth under our solid rock crust.

I remember watching the animation of the so called Grand Finale. When the film finished with the dive into the atmosphere I had a few tears in my eyes. It was like I lost a life long friend. I downloaded that Grand Finale and maybe one day our grandchildren will watch the film, too, and also acknowledge that a life long friend can be gone in a few seconds....

Would have LOVED to see a video of it entering Saturn's atmosphere before destruction (if such a thing is possible). I still can't believe how many years were involved. I hope we can find a faster travel soon. Would be nice to have arrived weeks after launch. I can't even image how awesome that would be. Thanks so much for sharing this information. NASA will launch Cassini 2 in 2023, here's when:
2023: Cassini 2 launch.
2024: Earth and Moon flyby from 1 000 000 KM away, and 2 000 000 Miles.
2025: Mars flyby, landing on Mars.
2026: Cassini 2 goes back to Earth for it's final Gravity pull going 31 372 MPH.
2027: Jupiter flyby, with 100 000 000 KM away, and 200 000 000 Miles away from Jupiter.
2028: Cassini 2 takes 50 000 images of Io, Europa, and Ganymede.
2029: Cassini 2 orbits Jupiter to get the Gravity for Saturn.
2030: Cassini 2 takes 5 Pictures of Saturn's final Moon, Hyperion from 50 000 000 KM away, and 100 000 000 Miles away from Hyperion.
2031: Cassini 2 goes inside Saturn, but does not survive.
NASA's final goodbyes to Cassini 2 but, Saturn is not done yet!
