    Winx is an amazing horse. She sits back, goes wide and wins. Sometimes she doesn't even look like she is trying. She is truly a great mare!

    Wiiiinnnxxxxx... Jesus I was in tears after watching her win. This is the first time I have seen her being chased won the stretch and she had to extend her stride in order to stop Humidor from catching up. What a race from Humidor, he was flying towards the end and really gave it his all. Winx, the most beautiful horse I have ever seen.

      At 1.41 he has to switch to the outside to go AROUND Winx, had it opened up for him instead it would have been over.

      Maybe, maybe not. But let's not forget just this year alone there has already been a few times where she made us all thought "it's over". Notice at 1:59-2:00 when Humidor really starts explode he was closing the gap, but up to a certain point the gap stopped closing because Winx had an extra gear in her to hold him off by extending her stride. In another words even if it did open for Humidor, there's a good chance Winx still would have caught him by further upping her tempo

    I can't stop watching this. What a race by Humidor! The final sprint when he lowered the head and lengthened his stride was absolutely phenomenal. It propelled him forward like he was wearing a jet pack; you could really feel the desperation. If he could hold that speed just a little longer there was a slight chance he could have caught up to Winx. Wew... What a race, and Winx what a champion!

    One of the best finishes I have seen to a Cox Plate - awesome run by Humidor. A great champion up against a great challenger. As far as Cox Plate finishes go, this was right up there with Our Waverley Star v Bonecrusher finish in 1986. To those tools who reckon she's not up to Euro G1 standard, name the horse, name the track...Winx will beat the shit out of anything.

    • @cmrcz7550

      Yawn... She never got out of Sydney and Melbourne,racing stayers coming back from spells, for most part.
      A Japanese group two horse, with a dismal winning record also blitzed her top two rivals in her last race.

    Lets keep the debates clean and respectful. I know we can get excited defending horses we like, but lets appreciate all of them. Winx, Enable and Cracksman are all Super horses, lets give them all respect without insults. Appreciating these horses is a lot better than insulting them because of nationality reasons or insecurity.

    Just in case some people thought Winx wasn't performing well:
    Modern Cox Plate Fastest Track Recorded time:
    2017-2018: Winx - 2: 02: 94
    2015-2016: Winx - 2: 02: 98
    So Winx broke her own record time, but Humidor just went into a frenzy towards the end lol.

      Ben Asgari from racing.com did an excellent article recently that showed just how good Humidor is, using the Punter's Form rating system. I've included the link to the article below. There's no doubt he was below his best in the Turnbull. In this race he was ridden perfectly... very cold and got all the breaks at the right time. Had Winx not been in the race he'd have won by 4-5L and everyone would be wowing at him. He's a seriously good horse and I don't think he has shown his best yet. He should be even better next year based on what Weir has said.www.racing.com/news/2017-10-06/can-humidor-beat-winx

      Humidor was on the rails most of the race and got about the best trip possible. Winx was three and four wide early and three wide from about the 1000 metres. She covered quite a lot of extra ground.

      Kev Foster Black Caviar was injured in that race... so your Wokingham comparison is ridiculous. A better example is Mandurah, the current mile world record holder, who was a claimed racing in the US. Times in and of themselves can be a very valuable tool if you look at them the right way. But it's the context that's important. The UK are a long way behind most other racing centres when it comes to sectional timing (but you're starting to catch up), so it doesn't surprise me that you don't completely get it. In Australia where we tend to average better going sectionals are far more relevant, if you know how to interpret them.

      Ben Asgari from Punters Form did an excellent article on Humidor and his rating after his win in the Makybe Diva Stakes. He is a serious G1 horse. He was not really able to showcase his talents in the Turnbull, but things panned out absolutely perfectly for him today. While Winx was toughing it out outside the leaders he was taking all the short-cuts and was carted into the race perfectly. Talk about having a rider in the zone. I don't think they've gotten to the bottom of him yet. He's definitely now the heir apparent in Australian racing.

    Disclaimer! Australian, really massive winx fan (obviously) i have watched this race quite a few times now, but i for once watched the race in humidors perspective, what a fantastic ride by Blake shinn! I have been watching the race going wow what a great run by winx to sit wide the whole race start her run from 6-700mtrs out and obviously win, but wow humidor! Nearly got there! but watching it in humidors perspective i noticed that he did actually peak on his run and (knowing the outcome) i really dont think he would of beaten winx if the race was a further 50 or 100mtrs longer. I feel as though humidor threw everything it had down the straight and got close but when it came to crunch time winx had a little bit more to give still. But like i said i am a "little" bit one sided towords winx. Just my opinion

    Watched the replay many times over, take nothing away from Humidor, but he had a pretty soft run on the fence the whole way until the 300, Winx was 3 and 4 wide some of the way, also interesting that arguably the best 3 horses to ever grace the turf here have been females, I repeat Arguably, not in any order Makybe Diva, Black Caviar and Winx also 1 sprinter 1 middle distance and 1 out out stayer who could win a middle distance.

    • @ross9736
      @ross9736 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Three of best horses to race have indeed been females. Is it any coincidence that they also got or get weight relief from the males? Do great horses need weight relief?

    • @bgardiner3354
      @bgardiner3354 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Importantly though all 3 were able to overcome significant weight impositions during their careers. Makybe Diva carried 0.5kg's above WFA when she won her third Melbourne Cup. You have to go back 36 years to Rain Lover to see another horse carry more than WFA in the cup. While it's the weight differential that really matters only 3 horses in 50 years have been able to carry 58kg's or more and win the Cup. Black Caviar set a modern day weight carrying record in her Newmarket win, setting a race record in the process. Not surprisingly she achieved her peak career rating. Winx also took on the handicapper twice, carrying 57kg's in the Epsom (the highest weight for a filly in 150 years no less) and again in the Doncaster. Only More Joyous in a much weaker field and Sunline have carried more weight (distaff). This is something that European horses are not able to claim.

    What a fantastic race, Winx broke her own course record today, that is just unbelievable considering the amount of ground she covered. What a freak.
    Racing Winx overseas serves no purpose what so ever, the prize money in Europe is crap compared to Australia.
    If she was a entire (Stallion) then fair enough because a stallion that wins in both hemispheres will generate a ton of cash at stud in both Northern & Southern hemispheres once proven in both hemispheres.
    Stallions that are HUGE in their respective countries and have very high servicbe fee's in the country they raced in, once they shuttle overseas their service fee drops dramatically a prime example is American Pharoah who's service fee was $200,000 USD or $260,000 AUD earlier this year (2017) in America, however he is currently in Australia servicing mares and his servise fee in Australia is $50,000 USD or $66,000 AUD - Meaning you could haves 4 mares covered by American Pharoah in Australia for the same fee as having just the 1 mare covered in America.
    If American Pharoah raced in Australia and won a classic race like a Caulfield Stakes, Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup or the Queen Elizabeth Stakes then his servise fee's here in Australia will be at the very least $150,000 AUD or $115,000 USA.
    It would be foolish to take the risk traveling Winx half way around the world for ZERO financial gain.
    I hope the connections see how she pulls up and maybe consider the Autumn carnival in Australia only if she is working the house down otherwise retire her on a high with 22 straight wins including 15 Group 1 races.
    Winx what a freakish Equine specimen!!!

      I'm not making the comparison, the IFHR is and has been. Timeform rates those two below Winx, and TF has a real Euro bias. She will not meet either of those, because she is an 8f to 10f horse. In fact, Chris Waller is on record declaring her a "miler" capable of extending her ability to 10f (2000m here). Enable is a very good filly, but more potent at 12f. Cracksman has a long way to go. Winning a couple of races by big margins in a bog doesn't tell us much. He may be just a superior mudlark.

    • @tst8720
      @tst8720 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cracksman needs to do something outside of soft ground to be considered a genuine star. He looks a beast on the soft but where else in the world would he get those conditions.
      Waller is wrong about Winx being a miler (in Australia), she doesn't get warm over a mile. Having said that, a UK mile on a stiff track would suit.

    • @svendbosanvovski4241

      No. Timeform is. Check its current Global Rankings. There are also difficulties lining up Winx and Enable. Both terrific horses. Enable's best distance is 1.5 miles. Winx will never race over that distance. At 10f, my money would be on Winx. Cracksman is impressive, but he needs to be tested against a better class of openaged WFA horses, and on good to firm going. David, can you tell me if the straight 6f at Chantilly is slightly downhill. I cannot find a detailed description of the track.

    If Winx doesn't go to Europe she will remain a great Australian champion.
    Which means fuck all.
    I haven't seen a better horse race here, that is for sure.
    There is nothing that I desire more as a racing fan than to see our best take on the world. I remember being 12 or 13 hearing about Strawberry Road on ABC radio.
    Better Loosen Up, Naturalism and without a doubt in my mind, Saintly, all (and would have) did us proud in Japan. The surface was too hard for Makybe Diva.
    Winx is better. If she tackles them as a 7yo and fails, well so be it. Obvious excuses will be made. She'll be 7, how many mares are at their best at 7?
    I hope she goes. If she competes anywhere near her best, I'm sure it will be good enough.
    If she doesn't go then there is no point in us arguing that she is the best in the world. Who would bother to listen?

  • @svendbosanvovski4241
    @svendbosanvovski4241 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So according to Timeform Winx's win on saturday was the equivalent of The Tin Man at 126, and 9 points below Lady Aurelia's peak rating. Ray Thomas was correct when he commented about the Northern Hemisphere bias when assessing the relative merits of our horses and their. In the Cox Plate, she ran 2074 metres in 2m 2.94 secs, which is equivalent of 2000m in 1m 58.55. That is astonishing on Strathayr. She covered 3 lens extra ground because Hughie felt compelled to ride her wide without cover. Take Humidor out and have her racing inside and she'd have won the race by 7.5 lens. I think that is a tad superior to The Tin Man. And to base a horse's ability on single peak performance is palpably flawed logic. Winx wins 22 on the trot and a squib like Lady Aurelia gets rated above her by Timeform. When Black Caviar was being rated lower than the UK middle distance horses, it came down to the lower assessment of sprints to races over more ground. Now what is the excuse? Well it's that old British logic of the inherent superiority of their marquee races, don't ya know. Even a camel like old Tin Man, still stuck on the Yellow Brick Road, gets to match it with the like of Winx anywhere but in OZ!

    • @tst8720
      @tst8720 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately fast tracks and track bias can make ratings very unreliable, Timeform concede she could not have rated near her peak under those circumstances. My take is ratings are based more on the rate the opposition slow/tier than the winners speed. For that reason the UK's more testing tracks, softer going and stronger pace accentuate ratings more than other countries where courses are less challenging and faster. Hence you get blanket finishes in Australasia more so than Europe. It is what it is?

    • @svendbosanvovski4241
      @svendbosanvovski4241 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We have blanket finishes in handicap events, where the objective is to even the horses up. We also generally have larger fields in those races. There is no doubt that the UK has a greater variety of track types, but it would be wrong to argue that all are more challenging. In any event, that is not the reason horses there have inflated ratings. The entire rating structure is founded on assumption that those races are superior. So it follows the horses that win them must be the best.

    • @tst8720
      @tst8720 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would argue not ALL but the vast majority of races in the UK are more testing than the equivalent distances in Australia. Do a quick study on margins in Gr1 events and you will see this is a fact. Personally I think this should be taken into account with pounds per length calculations. The assumption about the quality of race is based on the horses taking part. Horses ratings are relative to each other, therefore the spaces between each runner is at the end of a race is the key to a high rating horse and race. If Australia introduced pace makers and watered all tracks to be a Slow 6 or softer, you would see ratings of the outliers such as Winx increase because finishing positions would be less compressed.

    • @svendbosanvovski4241
      @svendbosanvovski4241 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a broad generalisation that may be so, but ratings are specific to each performance. Some UK events would be easier than here (sprints at Newbury, York, Goodwood and the King Stand, for example). There are specific formula used to calculate time/weight/margin adjustments, and they do incorporate the pace of the race, which is impacted by going. The argument about race quality being dependent upon the classes of horses sets up a palpable circular argument: the higher the class of horse, the higher the class of race, and hence the higher the class of horse ad infinitum. Our track curators have watered tracks following a number of studies a decade ago linking percussion injuries to the fast surfaces. I have maintained records of penetrometer readings record since 1994 and I can tell you that the readings used to be lower than 3 in Sydney (very fast) during Summer. That doesn't happen now. The ideal is about 4.5 for a Good 3. Hopefully we will never resort to that dreadful practice of employing pacemakers. Good pace is rarely an issue here. It is assured if the field is large and safe.

    • @tst8720
      @tst8720 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My position remains that UK racing in more conducive to spreading the bell curve of ratings which I would speculate directly reflects the compressed field finishing positions which are in turn related largely to flat fast tracks vs undulating lush tracks. I agree the idea of assumptions about the superiority of certain races in the UK is over the top. I still remember people denying Black Caviar until she raced in the UK despite beating horse 10L superior to Soul (3rd place in DJ).

None of the European horses who dominated the race would have stood a chance against Cracksman, Enable, Capri or Talismanic.

    To put Winx into perspective for the Euros, she would be about 3-4L superior to So You Think at WFA. Our 2000m ranks are thinner than Europe but she is an extreme outlier. I’ve followed the Euro greats and have her right in the mix with Dubai Millenium, Sea the Stars and Frankel (only over 2000m). I’m not sure what a 7yo version of each of those would do if asked to travel to Aust out of season. so think she faces a task if asked to travel overseas next year as 7yo mare.

    • @tst8720
      @tst8720 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well what would I know, I’ve only studied international horse racing my whole life. The International ratings are Frankel 140, Sea the Stars 136, Dubai Millenium 134, Winx 132. At WFA that has her beating STS by a neck, DM by over a length and within 1.5 of Frankel. I’d speculate that Frankel’s 2000m rating would be less and that STS earnt his rating over 2400m in the Arc. DM did his best work over 2000m but as described above would be hard pressed beating Winx.

    • @tst8720
      @tst8720 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By the way she has 10.5lb advantage over SYT at WFA so I short changed her when I said 3.5-4L better. Probably more likely 4.5L. One has to ask, how many lengths Frankel would have on SYT. Taking a line through Farhh, CDA & SNA SYT surely is within at least 5L. No doubt in my mind that over 2000m Winx is panels superior to CDA, SYT and with cut in the ground and a pace maker would be right there with the Frankel (GOAT).

      Hang on… you berate my initial comment, then after I explain my position through statistical analysis, you respond with “Sea The Stars was the finest, the best horse of the modern era. Period” with no basis.
      Well case closed then.
      I’m going to hurt a lot of people’s feelings here and declare Sea the Stars one of the most over-hyped horses of all time. He could have one by bigger margins, he could have improved into his 4yo year to account for losing his 3yo weight allowance etc. Fact is he didn’t and was retired at 3yo after a very short career. His wins were not massively dominant and to speculate that he had more in hand is unfounded.
      Frankel on the other hand went on as a 4yo and left everything on the course. He monstered his rivals smashed them by lengths. He left little to speculation and romanticism and just brutalised them. To suggest Sea the Stars as a better horse is to simply speculate that Sea the Stars could rise many lengths to any challenge. It’s a romantic idea but totally speculative and highly unlikely.
      How far does Frankel beat Mastercraftsman by over 2000m?

    What a complete champion fastest Cox Plate ever run she was the widest horse against a bias track great effort from Humidor but even when he was coming she had him covered. People will say because she didnt win by 5 lengths that she is not as good, look at the clock she won by 4 in 2015 she won by 8 in 2016 she smashed a champions time as a 4yr old on Might And Power and again yesterday she wins by half and smashes the clock again and Hugh was punching the air with 30m to as Humidor was closing, the further they went she still holds him. To the wankers that said its a shit field well it was a brilliant tactical race and wow can she come back and make it 4 in a row. After the race she was prancing around ready to go again, i think Humidor wanted to go and have a lay down lol. Weir should have put blinkers on him last week in the Caulfield Cup and B Shinn and he prob wins it. Not that i give a shit abt the Melb Cup but if Humidor works his manners out and stops hanging in etc he will prob be hard to beat in The Cup. But this season it was sll about yesterday and The Queen dodnt let us down. Maybe 1 more run in The McKinnon on Derby Day would be great but prob not. Well done Team Waller thanks for the memory of yest 96yrs only 2 horses havecwon 3. Yet people say The Cox Plate is losing its staus. They are still hard to win

      I think you'll find that Better Loosen Up, Solvit and The Phantom Chance all ran faster times than Winx.

      Yeah, Pinker Pinker, Ocean Park, Shamus Award and Adelaide all found it really hard to win.
      You're an absolute clown.

    The Aussies brought Black Caviar and in a weak field it only won by a nose... They know all too well bring Winx up against a great horse like Enable and it's certain defeat
    Winx likes being the big fish in a small pond.

      Winx is the greatest horse in the world at the moment. It's in a huge pond you jealous pommy. Get ready to watch Randwick this week and see her absolutely prove you wrong. Enable is overrated.

      Hahahaha BC was not even ridden last 50+ metres mate. Not to mention the leg injuries she was carrying during the race. Enable wouldn’t touch winx over 14-2000 metres.

      Yes it was a weak field that had that years French Horse of the Year in it. She won.....injured. Soul was easily getting beaten by horses Black Caviar thrashed 8 and 10 lengths being eased down in Australia but there he was at Ascot getting within 1.3 lengths of the wonder mare. Now I put it to you either Soul magically found 10 - 15 lengths when he hopped off the plane in the UK OR Black Caviar raced 10 - 15 lengths below her best due to the injuries she sustained in the run. Ask yourself which is the more likely scenario ?

      Watch BC race in England again. The jockey eased up on her thinking he already crossed the line. She had torn leg & back muscles, you say it was a weak field, it’s not BC fault that was the best group of horses she had to race against. The English are so jealous of the likes of BC & Winx, it’s embarrassing.

    I've been reading some ridiculous posts from imbeciles running this horse's achievement down, mostly from northern hemisphere idiots who clearly lack sufficient vitamin d levels to make educated and informed opinions. 22 wins in a row in Australia is no walk in the park all of them at group level. Look at her times and look at some of the rides, that in my opinion have been less than perfect, then you will come to see that this horse is something special. Her last Cox Plate win she broke her own track record. And apparently down in Australasia we have nothing but hacks. Most of Frankel's wins were due to his brother Bullet Train setting the pace. I don't see that with this horse!!!!!!!!

      Gregory, please, please tell me that you're not inferring that Winx would have beaten Frankel? That's just pure stupidity, on a rarely seen level.

      Oh Gregory, what a very silly Joey you are. The convict line runs fiercely through your veins, this is clear to see. Winx is just not even in the same stratosphere as Frankel, and frankly, for you to even whisper it shows how clueless you in fact are. Bring her to Europe over a straight mile, or a one turn 1m2f race run on good ground (not concrete). She's going to get obliterated, you stupid uneducated convict.

      Mark Jaybonn Mark as both your replies clearly fail dismally to rebut my arguement and the fact that you have posted one of Frankel's wins where he records a significantly slower time than Winx clearly show's me that you are in need of some sunshine. You have just displayed and quite literally made my point!!!!!!!!!

      @gregorykillen4564 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mark Jaybonn And further more I'm not as you would term it a "joey" or have any semblance of convict heritage. And last time I checked Australia doesn't have any concrete racing tracks either!!!!!!

    As good as it gets in every sense. Bowman used the term 'horseman' when he was interviewed straight after the race on the back of the champion. What does this mean, especially in this context? I'll tell you what it means - all of you no-hopers and desperates from overseas: if you take the races of Frankel, for instance, you can see the difference in the attitude of the horse illiterates with too much money over there - they virtually tried to kill it in every race; bad riding, jumping up and down in the saddle, laying into the animal. Utter, shameful, disgraceful, mindless, classless, displays of greed and stupidity.
    Bowman took the mare carefully along, moved her out away from the ruck around the sweeping turn, and made top speed just after entering the straight and never hammered her at any point. Humidor, which is a top notch horse, hit more or less the same top speed for a few strides at the end and would NEVER EVER EVER have passed Winx, which 'conceivably,' when you examine the race, 'may' have had another gear still available, especially in consideration of the fact that Bowman was standing up and celebrating before the line and the other rider was pushing hard flat-out still. But the end result? Win and race record. End of story and no one got hurt. Which is different to what happens in the UK these days in particular. To hammer a horse like Frankel, for example, they way they constantly do (did) is just plain ignorant and insulting to actual racehorse-people.

    Just a pity Winx never came up against strong opposition during her Cox Plate wins. Would love to have seen her race during the 1990's

    Which idiots thought she was gone? Seriously she smashed the clock and has soon as Humidor got near her she kicked again they could have gone another 150m and she would have put a space on him. Hugh didnt touch her with the whip and was punching the air with 25m to go. Great run Humidor and people said it would be a shit Cox Plate. They never are. Besides how many Cox Plate runners do them people own even the owners of the horses that made that field up are all in history as the ones that took the greatest on.
