It obvious that the Channel 7 camera team knew they recording history unfolding. The camera work is as good as you will ever see for a racing event. You get an aerial shot from the gates. 45 degree head-on as they settle. Cut to another aerial shot until they gallop around the back. Aerial shot, followed any another aerial shot until they introduce the tantalising low shots that would have please the great Japanese director, Yasujiro Ozu. When the great mare cuts loose, the high camera tracks her rounding the corner like a whippet, gazing in awe from the best seat in the house. The pan around as she eases to the line, 9 lengths ahead of the valiant Hartnell. Simply marvellous.
I love that shot at about 1:37. She eases up to Hartnell as if to say "You may be good, but I'm great". Then Hughie shakes the reins and she's gone in a stride. Awesome to watch.
That short dual between Winx and Hartnell is telling - Hartnell is a fantastic horse, but as Winx just glides past, Hartnell's head is up and the horse is really giving it a go. Winx's head is down and just cruising.
@@elgransenor1472 I believe we get that feeling about Hartnell because Winx makes him look average. Hartnell banked $7.4 million. I give him the benefit of the doubt because I don't think that horses who earn that much loot are considered pretty moderate. If you roll back to the 2015 Cox Plate, Winx went up against Highland Reel, who later won the Breeders Cup Turf at Santa Anita, and ran second in that race at Del Mar a year later. In fact, Highland Reel won Group 1 races on 4 different continents, but was no match for Winx in the 2015 Cox Plate. Winx drew clear of the field turning for home and easily opened up 4 lengths on Highland Reel, who was decisively beaten.
@@georgeratkovich7161 I reckon there are 20 horses who raced in Australia in the past 30 years who would have breezed pass Hartnell just as easily as Winx did. Hartnell looked “pretty good” because what he ran against and what Winx ran against was decidedly ordinary
@@georgeratkovich7161 Highland Reel was decisively beaten many times He was 5-6 lengths better in other races than he was in the Cox Plate Would Criterion be capable of winning the races Highland Reel won? No
Not a punter or follower of horse racing but that was AWESOME!! Racing in a class field and an important race and she just smoked them. She looked to be in cruise control with her jockey just holding the reins. Stunning!
Aussie Stevo Australia is not the A grade competition, there's less chance of the elite middle distance horses racing here than in the major European races. There's nothing in world racing that can compete with her under Australian conditions. I'd like to see her out of her comfort zone. For that she would need to go OS.
Hartnell had won 3 group 1s from 1400m to 2400m and multiple group 2s and 3s from 1600m to 2615m at this point. It's 2019 record reads 7 placings (groups 1s/2s only), three 4ths, a 5th and a 7th. Absolutely amazing horse!!
Just seen Monarchs Glen win here at Kempton. If the victory of Frankel"s son is anything to go by, His Majesty's fee will rising sharply next year. His finishing time for the 11 furlong contest was a tad over 2mins 18.secs. Highly respectable and that despite being heavily eased down at the finish (6or 7lengths to a length and a half) at the line. Wow!
Winx vs Almanzor.. Who really was the best horse on Turf in 2016? Both ran career-best performances in October 2016 over 2000m. Winx in the Cox Plate and Almanzor in the Champion Stakes. Winx pulverised (ex-English trained) Turnbull Stakes winner Hartnell by 8L. Almanzor powered from Arc winner Found and won by 2L. Winx was a 5 year old. Almanzor a 3 year old. 2016 ratings. World Handicapper: Winx 132 - Almanzor 129 Timeform: Winx 133 - Almanzor 133 Racing Post: Winx 130 - Almanzor 129 According to ratings, and visual impression, Winx was probably the better horse. However, had they raced against each other in the Cox Plate and Champion Stakes of 2016, who would have prevailed? Cox plate weight allowance: 3lb Alamanzor Champion Stakes weight allowance: 2lb Alamanzor Theoretical winner of Cox Plate according to: World Handicapper - Deat-heat; neck and neck finish. Timeform - Almanzor Racing Post - Alamanzor Theoretical winner of Champion Stakes according to: World Handicapper - Winx Timeform - Almanzor Racing Post - Almanzor So according to these figures, Almanzor may have BEATEN the great mare, at the peak of her powers, had they clashed in October 2016 over 2000m. This goes to show, for as brilliant as Winx is, and was, Almanzor has been massively overlooked (and underrated) by fans and journalists as a horse who existed at the very same time as the mare, and *may* have beaten her.
Look at the difference in "rating" as they come down the straight. Count the rhythm of Hartnell's front hooves hitting the ground, then count the rhythm of Winx's front hooves hitting the ground. Most horses lengthen their stride when under pressure, but Winx keeps her stride length the same, (relatively short) but increases the pace at which her hooves hit the ground. I wouldn't think you could train a horse to do that (correct me if I'm wrong) - it's instinct.
Winx and Street Cry are absolutely chalk and cheese. SC’s action was massive compared to her’s. Her stride rate is pretty unique. Beau Zam was the only one I can really think of that had a similar action.
No matter what the experts say; BUT! her acceleration in the last 200m is the best in the world. So even if she went to England or Katmandu. You would'nt be able to catch her as her stride frequency. Maybe you should bring the best in the world to come down under to sought this crap out once and for all a two horse race.
AMEN! she would explode past many of the greats and she absolutely knew every step what she was doing... if this horse was a person she would lead the world.
Read all of my comments on Winx all made over 18 months ago. I said this horse will win every race she is in and how right I was. All of the haters suck on that.
I was talking her for 18 months too. Plenty of people have had doubts but there's not much they can say now unless they are blind.. She is a super star..
WINX would have got beaten by either Bonecrusher or Our Waverley Star in the 1986 Cox Plate Race. The pace in that race from start to finish was way faster than the 2016 Cox Plate. Bonecrusher would have blitz her easy.
lol that is a laughable statement. Look at the year Better Loosen Up won. He would have beaten Bonecrusher Stylish Century was around 25 lengths in front at one stage in that race. The track was changed to Strathyr after that, which is a sand based surface and as such a slower surface. Nobody has ran faster than Winx since.
Suffice to say , TH-cam`s second biggest mouthpiece ; Mr Fastnet, can add the odds on favourite Caravaggio to his seven selections that all lost in the 2016 Melbourne Cup and his "Almandin has no chance" in the the same race. The Aidan O`Brien hotpot; Caravaggio, finished fourth, two places ""behind"" the wonderful Limato, who conceded six pounds to both Caravaggio and the very good three year old winner. In the words of the great Marvin Hagler ; you don`t have to say anything, just beat em , and boy oh boy has Mr Fastnet70 taken a beating this week ! When is he going to learn !!
She went via the cape widest on the turn, and gapped the lot impressively. This Winx is some mare. No excuses please from fans of yesteryear short career span heroes. The greatest can always find more petrol in the tank.
what do you mean yesteryear short time span heroes? Agree the greatest can always findmore petrol in the tank - they did that 10, 20 , 30 , 40 and 50 years ago too - and the older generation horses didn't have the benefit of the compressed weight scales the modern horses have where in feature group 1s the weight spread is around 8-10 kgs compared to 12-14 Kgs! when winx has won group 1s at 2,3,4,5,6,7,and 8 years of age running track records the Sydney and Melbourne way of going, has broken down and spent the last 4 years of her career running on three legs and was still good enough to have won the equivalent of 23 Groups in today's rating, she might be able to blow wind up Manikato's arse!
Winx would beat Manikato at 1400m plus in my opinion. Her turn of foot is so effortless. As good as Manikato was we don't need to go too far back to find a horse who would have beaten him at 1200m either.
postcard terry. I backed Prince of Penzence in the Melbourne Cup in 2015. Profited last year too on the Cup. I think you meant the Cox Plate though. I think you've got toffe on your face. Here.
She spanked last start European Grp1 winner Vadamos to the tune of 10 lengths !! She smashed Highland Reel by 5 lengths last year and he has won the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stks and was a fast finishing 2nd in the Arc. That places her somewhere in the vicinity of being 4 lengths superior to Found. She thrashed Gailo Chop last year 12.5 lengths and he was 1.5 lengths 2nd to Solow in the Grp1 Prix D'Ispahan. It's highly likely she wouldn't have too much trouble winning any Grp1 race in Europe up to 2000m
Oh look. Highland Reel wins the Breeders Cup Turf. Winx's formlines being franked AGAIN !! She must be up to making up the numbers at European Grp1 level now lol lol
Bob Gardiner, you got 1.26 on Winx last time well done ! One hell of a bet ! What price did you get on Werther ,when tipped by you ,in November when it lost ?? What price did you get on the big race fav in October one week before the Melbourne Cup( lost !), and what price did you get on the fav for the Melbourne Cup which you also tipped ,and lost ?? Bob Gardiner misleading the public but talking about honesty and integrity !
How good is Hartnell to go with Winx and run itself out at the 600 to 400 but then still hang on to beat the field - apart from this four-legged rocket, Winx. This is a super-horse.
The only horse that might've been capable of giving Winx a run for her money was Maurice but he's been retired to stud. Last year's Cox Plate was the last time any opposition had a chance of beating her and she smashed them. Hartnell will never beat her!!! She'll never be beaten again!!! As for going overseas, why bother..? The prize money here in Australia is great and if overseas opponents want to try their luck, they can always come over here.
don't take her overseas!!!! She is worth tooooooo much to risk an overseas virus taking her down. It is simply not worth the risk . Her breeding days are still ahead of her and she deserves to be treated with the utmost respect and giving her the best life possible after she retires from racing. Whoever brings out a DVD on her history, wins, races, training, etc will make a motsa!!! Go you good thing!!!!!!!
I rated Delicacy a better 3yo than Winx... Especially over 10+F. But Winx has just gone to another level as a 4yo +. She has form around the winners of the very best European races and is clearly the best horse on turf anywhere in the world. I'd like to see her in the Duty Free and a Prince of Wales.
She is actually only the best horse in Australasia right now .. she is completely unproven on the world stage and ratings are onle the numbers given in a theoretical race - repeat theoretical! Test her on the real stage!
Got some news for you - Hartnell and Vadamos are no where near the best European horses - nor is Gailo Chop and there were plenty of Euro Group 1 performers who beat Criterion by as much as Winx did last year! I'd like to see her in the Prince of Wales' Stakes too - and would be the first to clap her home!
Richard Mitchell Her form stacks up....that's her real form not theoretical. Look what Highland Reel has done in his career. Winx destroyed him. Hartnell has been flying this prep. The IFHA ranks him alongside Flintshire. Winx thrashed Hartnell. Next start he beats all the Euro trained horses in the Melb Cup except Heartbreak City and he's suss at 2 miles against classy opposition. He toyed with Jameka in the Turnbull, who came out and toyed with the European stayers, such as Exospheric and Scottish in the Caulfield Cup. Scottish has a win over Exospheric. Exospheric was beaten 4 lengths by Postponed and 3 lengths by Highland Reel in one of Europe's premier Grp1 races the Juddmonte International. Highland Reel then ran a fast finishing length 2nd in Europe's best race the Arc behind Found and then turned the tables on Found when winning the Breeders Cup beating Flintshire.. Exospheric and has a win over Big Orange who in turn has a win over The Grey Gatsby, The Grey Gatsby has a Grp1 win over Australia in an Irish Champion Stks and also has Grp1 2nds to Solow and Golden Horn. The form is intertwined. They are the best middle distance horses in the world. All available evidence suggests both Jameka and Hartnell would be competitive with all those horses at 2000m - 2400m except maybe Golden Horn although I suspect Hartnell, in his current form, would be a chance for sure. Winx is in a different class to Jameka and Hartnell. Gailo Chop has a Grp1 2nd to Solow, who was a star in Europe. Spanked 12 lengths by Winx then wins Grp1 next start. Arod also has a Grp1 2nd to Solow. Winx smashed him 14 lengths. She hasn't just beaten them she's destroyed them. Made them look like 2nd raters and done it with something in hand. Of course I know the depth of middle distance horses in Europe is generally superior to what we have in Australia, just as our sprinters are generally superior to theirs, but Winx is something else. So You Think proved what a dominant middle distance horse in Australia can do and I am certain Winx could do the same but she's owned and trained in Australia so that's simply never going to happen. I only hope some good quality Europeans come for the Queen Elizabeth Stks, they have 4 million reasons to come. I'll back Winx till my nose bleeds. She's pretty much bomb proof.
Watching other horses is like slow motion compared to Winx these days. Her Stride rate is just so much higher than other horses And notice at 2:00 that Winx gave no fucks anymore. Wanted to slow down already lol only to be whacked to speed up again. In another words she can do whatever hell she wants.
Message for Mr Fastnet ?? So you didn`t give seven selections in the Melbourne Cup that all lost?? You didn`t say the Buffering and Chataquaqua were going to kick ass at Ascot, and you didn`t say that Almandin had "no chance" in the Melbourne Cup, and what did you say about Lady Aurelia ?? Strange that she came to Ascot and the Oz wood decided to stay at home
Wait I seem to remember a wonder horse called Oscar Schindler from the UK coming here for the Melb Cup and he was highly rated so what happened to him.
Offline all weekend Fastnet, you will have the whole weekend to explain why you can only tip a winner after it has won ! The slip you sent made no sense so it could have been your mates bet or your brother`s Billy. I also want the winner of the big sprint. I hope Limato wins !!! Got nearly twice the price he is now ! He is one of my guilty pleasures !
At the start of the year Bob Gardiner and Fastnet was talking of Oz sending half a dozen horses to Royal Ascot. I read that Jameka was injured but what about Spieth, Flying Artie, Extreme Choice, Chataquaqua and Winx?? Let`s get this show on the road !!!!!!!! Good Luck to Oz !
You are a delusional forgetful old man who surely cannot have much time left. You make ridiculous claim after ridiculous claim and NEVER provide the supporting evidence. Your compulsive lying doesn't even embarrass you and that is really quite sad. PROVE that ANYBODY said that Spieth, Flying Artie (retired to stud), Extreme Choice (retired to stud), Chautauqua (notice the correct spelling) and Winx were going to Ascot. That was never the plan. Your bullshit knows no bounds. Prove yourself FOOL. What about Lady Aurelia ?? I backed her you didn't ! She beat the equivalent of Grp3 horses. The time is irrelevant. The track was lightning fast. Records were being broken everywhere. For the first time men were allowed in the Royal Enclosure without wearing their jackets, which tells you how hot ( for England) it's been over there. What happened to Limato ? Beaten again and you've been spruiking him for the last year as the world's best sprinter after is July Cup win. Since then he's won 1 of his next 5. He went to Dubai and was thrashed 10 lengths in the same race an 8yo Buffering won the year before. Some horse.
I might be old but have never forgotten your "infamous" 2016 Melbourne Cup seven Billy Liar ! Put them up for everyone to see ! Limato was my only selection for Royal Ascot and was put up for everyone to see on youtube five days before the race when best odds available were 9/2 or 5s win only(2/1 on day. You claim to bet on betfair but actually bet on the lotto (tote)as your slip confirmed.Limato ran a blinder ! Easily beat Black Caviar`s time ! Limato was hampered by the winner and the second and was beaten a length. It would probably have been 1/2 length without trouble. That is much less than every single one of your seven Melbourne Cup selections were beaten (repeat seven in the same race). Here is the commentary Limato : In midfield, headway over 2f out, ran on and strong challenge inside final furlong, still every chance but possibly just held when not much room and hampered towards finish (tchd 9/4 in places). The winning time would still have beaten Black Caviar who failed to break Ascot Standard. Limato has done it before too !Regarding lies Mr Fastnet, write what you wrote about Lady Aurelia last year then or would you like me to copy and paste ?? Remember these beauties ; Tamarkuz, Almandin, Minding and Apple Jade ??NIGHTY NIGHT CRY BABY !
So your only bet at Royal Ascot was a loser. It was rather an underwhelming Royal Ascot this year. Oh well at least it was only 10 quid. My slip is 100% a Betfair slip fool. It even has the bet no's., time placed, bet amount, odds and the payout if applicable. Anybody who bets on Betfair knows what it looks like. Clearly you don't. I showed a decent profit, which is always good. Limato easily beat Black Caviar's time ?? lol lol lol lol. The time means 4/5ths of 5/8ths of f all. Records were being broken left right and centre on that lightning fast track. He couldn't beat Miss Andretti's track record and everybody who knows anything knows Black Caviar was better than Miss Andretti and Miss Andretti was very good. Please do cut and paste what I wrote about Lady Aurelia last year. Whatever it was was 100% true. You can also cut and paste what you wrote about her. You called her the fastest 2yo in history but I soon shot that bullshit down in flames with facts. Also cut and paste your comment when you tipped Limato in addition to the others You won't because you are a compulsive bullshitter.
Yes Limato was my only bet and I that was the only one I You should try listing yours five days before race rather than the day after it has won. What happened to the other three that you have not mentioned Billy Liar ?? You could not tell the truth if your fuckin trailer park life depended on it ! Post your 2016 Melbourne Cup seven that all lost Billy ! I bet you don`t !!! XX
its not about the money its about being able to truly say she is the best because she has dominated here and won there...So You Think won his first Cox at his 5th start and his second Cox at his 10th. The year after that Pinker Pinker won the Cox and SYT would have creamed her, but he was away winning 5 Group 1s in Europe in Europe and handing the horse of the year before he arrived in Workforce a 3-0 drubbing in head to heads..no Australasian horse in the full history of horse racing in this part of the world had won 5 European (and therefore Northern hemisphere) Group 1s EVER! Until Winx does something similar, I will rank her behind him! And don't get me wrong ..she is a joy to watch and is ine of the very best I've seen!
It's an unrealistic expectation to compare the records of SYT and Winx. SYT was purchased by Coolmore and they were about showcasing his talents to optimise their investment. Winx is never going to have an extended European campaign given there is no sense in doing so. SYT's 2 wins in the Cox plate though were against significantly inferior opposition though compared to Winx. They will maximise her earnings and there is enough prize-money in Australia to not have to travel. I hope they do... but over 7-10F she is only racing the tyranny of distance.
He beat 9 G1 winner in his first cox and she beat 7. People need to get off this notion that his fields were inferior. You are kidding if you think he wouldn't have beaten both the fields she beat just as convincingly!
As of today, both Hartnell & Highland Reel are the =10th best horses in the world and Vadamos is =33rd. Highland Reel is a Grp1 winner in 4 countries and a Breeders Cup winner and Arc runner up. Of course the fields Winx has beaten in her 2 Cox Plate victories were stronger than what So You Think beat. She thrashed world class middle distance horses by big margins.
About 2 min 5 sec. pretty solid. She holds the course record but anyone of the past greats would hold that record if the all had the cleaner leading them out as she did last year.
Tony Garvin yeah she is a very impressive mare. Could definitely win at group 1 level in Europe! Her acceleration is something I've only witnessed in 2 other horses in my lifetime and they are so you think and high chaparral who sired so you think. Check some of their videos out. But yes she is an elite middle distance horse and could even extend the trip to Caulfield cup distance without a worry!
Your mind must have wandered off on a nostalgic and sentimental journey when you wrote that comment, when dulcify won the race he ran 2.04.9 and in those days tracks were fast unlike now prepared to be good 3 in addition the old vally track was conducive to faster times than the new strathayr track. Further winx broke 2.3 in two of her wins and 2.3 and a tick in the other on good 3 tracks. That's fully 10 lengths faster than dulcify.
Matthew Hill he calls all the big races. i love love love he says "and bowman has NOT EVEN ASKED the big mare" in the more recent winx races. he doesnt even have to ask her... she beats the boys for fun :)
Winks is my horse.. always knew she would be Australia's next champion after blacky. but she's no Sunline yet. Sunline went oversea's and won races. its hard to travel and win. In Hong Kong, she led all the way to win the International Mile (1,600 metres), narrowly holding off local icon Fairy King Prawn. she even travelled to Dubai and came a close 3rd.
tdunster2011 Sunline was coming to the end when those horses beat her..Northerly or Lohnro records don't even compare to hers..they only raced one or twice vs her. did they go overseas? Sunline: (48) 32-9-3 A$11,351,607 Winx: (23)17-3-0 A$9,348,175 If Sunline was racing todays money she would be well over 20 mill. She beat a world champion stated up top and place a neck 3rd to world champion horses in Dubai. Travelling is not easy..especially if your horse is going to the other side of the world. Sunline is on top so far.. with her record.
Whether Sunline was at her best when she raced against Northerly is speculative. Certainly her form leading into their first Cox Plate show-down suggests she was somewhere near her best. Certainly the mile of the Feehan (Dato) Stakes at Moonee Valley should have been right up her alley... Northerly beat her fair and square. Northerly also won a Caulfield Cup with 58kg's. Sunline beat the handicapper at her pet distance... Northerly won a greater distance range. Sunline did and that's a feather in her cap. But head to head... he was a better race-horse.
bgardiner2000 but who traveled? northerly never went to Hong Kong or Dubai. (as you were talking about Frankel not travelling). she did and won.. Sunline was a way better horse by miles.
What did I say about Frankel travelling? It's interesting that they both ended up on 129 TF ratings at the ends of their monumental careers. A great filly is always going to have a better record than a great entire because fillies can race against their own age group. A number of Sunline's G1 wins were in distaff races. And having travelled does prove she could travel. I know it's not the same altogether, but Northerly was from Perth. The flight from Perth to Melbourne is not unlike Perth Hong Kong. So when you say he didn't travel it's a bit of a misnomer. Northerly also had a win in a Cox Plate over that seasons Prince of Wales winner Grandera. Unfortunately even with the travel edge he won 3 out of 3 against her. On the basis he should have been rated higher.
Bit rich Two Bob Bob Gardiner when you HAVE NOT TIPPED ONE WINNER - ALL LOSERS but extolled the "mudlover" three months ago but could not actually name one. It is enough for me to say that Highland Reel is best on good ground and the fact remains that despite what you say, his best figures are on good ground and so is his best rating. Now send one mudlover two bob Bob ! I bet you can`t ! ;- )How is Werther lotto man !
" It is enough for me to say that Highland Reel is best on good ground and the fact remains that despite what you say, his best figures are on good ground and so is his best rating ".....You are hilarious. YOU said Highland Reel was good in the wet after he was beaten by Enable now you are trying to say Highland Reel is best on good ground. ? A bigger idiot has never drawn breath.
Mr Fastnet, Lady Aurelia ??? One one hundredth of a second outside the Royal Ascot track record ! The Racing Post called the U.S. filly the "performance of the day" ahead of the top rated miler in the world ; Ribchester. Anything to say after all your nasty little comments last year. There is definitely a pattern here. If Mr Fastnet says something , then ignore it !
people saying this horse is just another horse LOL stop please u sound like a fool look at this horse run and glide there isnt a turf horse in the world that can compete with this horse at the 1 mile u.k u.s mars pluto idc where you race
I dont think any horse will ever be able to match Secretariats performance which is a record which now stands for almost 40 years........32 length win in a record time
So were your four favourites that all lost in the Autumn Bob. Four favs including Werther at odds on but Bob still thinks he is knowledgeable, don`t you Bob ! I would say that was a negative benchmark performance.B.Gardiner2000, Bob Gardiner and B.Gardiner is a youtube troll.
Bob Gardiner advises everyone to back Winx next time after Highland Reel franks the form at Royal Ascot. With upwads of 50,000 racehorses in training, Bob advises Winx, and not some unknown horse who might deliver a tasty sp. No Bob advises all readers to back Winx. Not that he is a chancer or anything !
magnifique - vive le Winx! two length lead on the final turn not bad, here's an even faster horse with an eight length lead on the final turn of a G1 race: th-cam.com/video/EqliNZvnFoE/w-d-xo.html
It's hard to get your head around. Beating a field by 31L could mean the opposition was average. Running a time that no horse has come within 2secs of on that track in 43 years could mean that the track played exceptionally fast that year.... A bit like the King Stand the year Miss Andretti won it. But the two together is harder to work out. As good as American Pharaoh was he'd have still been beaten the best part of 20L by sec.
Message for Bob Gardiner, B.Gardiner and B.Gardiner 2000. Regarding mudlovers or mudlarks Bob, name one ! I asked you to name one three months ago and you disappeared from youtube. I challenge you again ! Name one mudlover or mudlark !I am waiting ;-)
I would have Black Caviar in front of Sunline. Her record speaks for itself. I would also have Winx right alongside Sunline. If Sunline were out leading as usual I think Winx could run her down more often than not but Sunline was tough and she won 32 races so she also had longevity
bgardiner2000 Sunline was my favourite horse. Backed her at her 1st Australian start in Sydney and followed the ride. What a star she was. Black Caviar well we'll likely never see the likes of her again whereas Winx now sits alongside Sunline imo. Winx hasn't had the longevity of Sunline yet however her Cox Plate wins have been more breathtaking. Can't wait to so Winx in the autumn. She's at her peak right now and this could even be her peak prep coming up as Waller has looked after his star very well.
If I'd have had my way mate my two boys would have been called Sunline and Northerly. Unfortunately the wife got her way... no sense of adventure. I agree that Winx is in the rarefied air that Sunline once occupied. Sunline's connections were never worried about throwing her in at the weights... Waller I think is more cautious, especially with such an unbeaten streak to protect. I also think that the quality of Sunline's opposition was better than Winx has faced (in general terms) thus far. But agreed that, as frightening as it might seem... we may not have seen the best of her.
@@anneshaw9681 quite ironic that Winx holds the current race record for the Cox Plate and you want to speak of times ? The track is now Strathayr and it wasn't in 1979. Do you get that concept ?
@@anneshaw9681 I have proven you to be precisely that. Imagine somebody trying to compare times between horses 40 years apart on different surfaces. Oh wait...….
As of 9th Oct Almanzor and Winx both had a rating of 127. Almazor is a brilliant horse. She needs to go to Europe though. We expect the top european horses to come here and take on our carnival and our stars. we need to take the same attitude, and beat the europeans on their own tracks. if you want to be the best you have to beat the best. All over the world!
We don't expect the Europeans to come here. They come here for the truckloads of money that can be won. It should be noted that we pay prizemoney down to 10th in the big Cups. Almanzor is a class animal and so is Winx. I don't think there is a horse on the planet who can go with Winx up to 2000m.
Absolutely right Fastnet. We have trainers who are turning up to race for Group 3 prize-money, which is 3 times what they can race for at home. Especially horses with less-exposed form who can get into the right end of the weight scales. If the King Stand was a $6m race how many UK sprinters do you think would make the field?
HORSES FOR COURSES! Winx loves the valley and she peaks there, but can she travel overseas and perform just as well? How about Dubai? Plenty of money there and the worlds' best. If she truly is as good as people say she should be able to reproduce her performances else where? Makybe Diva won the Melbourne Cup 3 times, did that make her the world's best stayer at the time? No! She was soundly beaten in Japan. Truly great horses are able to travel and reproduce their top form else where and in varying conditions against varying opponents not just a few tracks and a few times in a year.
Winx doesn't peak at the valley it's more a case that it's the only time they let her go. In all her other races they let her do the minimum require to win. In the Cox plate - they unleash her because it's the most prestigious race in Australia.
Upload one of your massive Bill Gatesesque bets B.Gardiner so that everyone can see. An Australian sprinter has not been the fastest sprinter on the planet for twelve years ! You are a liar Mr Fastnet ! Oz sprinters are invariably geldings and Australia has not won a single Breeders Cup sprint, nor a Commonwealth Cup. The fastest racehorse in the world last year was Lady Aurelia. Her rating for winning the Royal Ascot Queen Mary is the highest rating ever achieved at Royal Ascot for a two year old filly, and with her weight for age allowance applied, she was the best racehorse at any distance in the world - well above Winx`s mark. Until I told you about "weight for age" a year ago, you were not familiar with the term. That is your level of knowledge Mr Fastnet !Flemington should not be mentioned in the same statement as Ascot, which has hosted the best English Thoroughbreds for two centuries. I doubt Flemington has seen five ! The fact that you can get pissed at Flemington, or have a good time without alcohol, does not mean it is the equal of the great British tracks ! Flemington is an artificial flat turning track.
Yes of course they are Mr Fastnet ! Oz has so much strength in depth that they are all concentrating on one race. That they are not sending one single horse to Royal Ascot has nothing to do with their sum total of two winners abroad in 2016 compared to Blighty`s 56 winners abroad. Nor does their dismal record in last year`s Melbourne Cup, when their best were beaten easily by an unknown German bred ; Almandin and an Irish hurdler ;Heartbreak City, have anything to do with decision to stay at home. Can you explain Mr Fastnet ; if money is the sole objective, why has Oz never won a single Breeders Cup race during a time (thirty five years) when the prize money in America was huge ?? Why has Oz never won an Arlington Million when it was the most valuable race in the world ?? After your seven losers (tips)in last year`s Melbourne Cup, shouldn`t you have disappeared under a stone ?? It was you who wrote that Almandin ; the winner, had "no chance", am I right ??
PCT , interesting point, 35 years without a breeders cup victory for the aussies is quite a stretch... cant say I recall a single entry now that you mention it...and I doubt waller has the stones to send winx to the states for a run this year... it wont happen...
Thanks Tina. Oz did have a real globetrotter called "Strawberry Road". He raced in Europe and then in America and Japan. He won the Grosser Preis at Baden Baden - Germany`s best race at its best track near the Black Forest. That single win was enough to make Strawberry Road; German Horse Of The year. I remember him running a blinder in the 1984 Arc too but by the time of some of those races, he had been exported from Oz. He was special but unfortunately got sold on several occasions ; for a while was the property of the Daniel Wildenstein (known for the very best French horses and...... getting angry with jockeys ) and the Paulson family(original owner of Arazi, who for many is still the greatest Breeders Cup winner of all time - won by half the track despite being given the worst draw in the race).
PCT, I recall a sire by the name of strawberry road in the states he sired kennedy road if I'm not mistaken could be a completely different animal but that's all remember of that name... the Paulson fam had a few good ones like cigar but he couldn't run a lick on turf... cheers
Tina, Fraise(mare) and Escina(horse) were both U.S.million dollar earners by the stallion ; Strawberry Road. His third biggest U.S. earner was Ajina(mare), who amassed 560,000 dollars on the racecourse. Both Seattle Slew and Alydar appear in Escina and Ajina`s pedigrees on the dam side. All three were bred by Allen Paulson so he obviously had faith in Strawberry Road.
Message for Fastnet - Minding is the "Cartier Champion" ,and Winx is the Longines Champion". Ask your partner, which one she would prefer !Of course, Oz is better at judging racehorses ,after all, they all tipped Almandin to win (not!) and Prince Of Penzance the year before too. All over the Oz press those two were.Final point, of course Winx is better than Found ! After all, Found is a multiple Group One winner and a Breeders Cup World Champion. She has also won the most important turf race in the world; The Arc De Triomphe and has the defeat of Golden Horn, an impressive Epsom Derby winner in her cv. As Oz only won two races abroad in 2016 and has a worse record than New Zealand in the Arc De Triomphe , don`t you think it is a bit arrogant to claim Winx is the best when she has never travelled outside Oz ?? Just asking - please don`t get angry cry baby !
You have STILL not figured out how to read a formguide. Until you are able to do that your word means nothing you lying miserable old fool. Buzz off serial pest.
George Blisson get your hand off it, she did not blow his times to pieces. When she broke the course record she ran 2.02.98 only 1 second quicker than him. His quickest was 2.03.98 and he ran that before he had technically turned 3 years old. She also had the cleaner leading her out to break the course record. If he had the cleaner leading him out he'd have gone sub 2.02. Times mean shit all. You have to look at the context of the race.
Tommy Tookalaba she will. I'm not disputing how great she is. I'm just saying that thus far she hasn't done what he did and we never actually saw the best of him. She is a superstar though!
Come on Big Mitch only 1 second ? 1 second equates to 5 or 6 lengths. It should also be noted that she was given a very easy time the last 100m in both her wins. So You Think was very good. Very good. 5 Aust Grp1's and 5 Euro Grp1's proves that. In addition to her 2 devastating Cox Plate wins you should remember that Winx also won the Epsom/Doncaster double. The Doncaster is Australia's best mile race. There is no way anybody can possibly say one is definitively better than the other They have both done different things in their careers. Winx is more like Sunline than So You Think. A miler who gets 2000m. So You Think was a 2000m plus horse. The Dubai Turf over 1800m would be the perfect race for her imo but it would mean missing the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stks and as they missed it this year they won't be missing it next year. She's at her peak now and any overseas trip won't happen until 2018. I hope she's going as well then as she is now
I think that there's a misperception that So You Think was the best middle distance stayer to come from Australia in a million years. There's no doubt he was very good. But I wasn't necessary convinced of all the hype when he left Australia. I read somewhere that someone rated him a 6lb better horse than Might & Power. Given that his main rivals were Whobebotyou, More Joyous and Zipping (all wonderful horses I might add), the fact that he was able to beat horses like Snow Fairy and Workforce demonstrated how little there is between our best in most years and those in Europe. Of course there are always outliers, like Frankel and Winx. I agree that I can't see them by-passing anything for a Queen Elizabeth. A trip OS after that and a third Cox Plate is not out of the question. A lot depends on what happens behind the scenes... things we don't see. Trainers generally don't like to advertise a lot of the little niggles they get. If she's completely sound with no issues they might do a bit more with her.
The word from Chris Waller now is that if Winx wins a third Cox plate this year she will have be off to have a crack at the Europeans - possibly even to America for a go on the dirt given her Street Cry pedigree suggest it won't be an issue. www.stuff.co.nz/sport/racing/88758776/Kiwi-trainer-Chris-Waller-targeting-Europe-for-worlds-best-turf-galloper-Winx-in-2018
Arrogate looks like a wonderful middle distance horse. I think it would be great to see them race. Our prize money here is very good and everyone in Australian racing would love to see a champion like Arrogate in our 2040m Cox plate which is the most prestigious WFA race in Australia.
Because our prize money is HUGE Terry. Horses here can win more coming 8th in a group one typically picking up $100k for their effort. Winners get $2 million. And we have several races like this over suitable distances - The Queen Elizabeth Stakes here is worth $4 million. If that's not a good enough reason to come to Australia I'm not sure what is. Then you have the Melb Cup which is worth over $6 million. Money - it's one hell of a drug.
Australians do not want that ! If they did, they would relax the quarantine rules. There is no risk with racehorses - it is a ploy ! You have the prize money but very little else. Can you think of any other race in the world worth millions, dominated by an unknown German bred and an Irish hurdler and a 100/1 winner the year before?? The Japanese send more horses to the Arc than to the Melbourne Cup because they want prestige, not your money.Winning in Europe or North America is what the millionaires want, not a race against "wood" in Oz.
Verity12ful some horses peak later in life some early on in recent years you would only say miss finland and piero as gun 2 yo and 3 yo nothing much after that i remember first seal giving winx whip lash a couple of times as a 3 yo a few million in prize money difference now
Agree with Anthony totally and will add the following - in 1977 there was a horse called Reckless that ran in several 3200M races. It was placed 4th in the 1976 Melbourne cup but in 1977 won the Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane Cups and was placed 2nd in the Melbourne Cup and 3rd in the Perth Cup. The relevance to your comment is that Reckless had 33 starts before winning a race (the owners were persistent?). So, as you say Anthony, some horses peak early then fade away while others take a while to mature. And there are others such as Black Caviar that carry all before them no matter what. Would like to know what Winx's time was for the race.
It was 2:06.35, 4 seconds slower than last year but I think last year was on a Good 3 track...this was a solid Dead 5 and the pace was slow as molasses for the first 600m.
Fuz Capp
Winx is a great horse but Hartnell is a pretty moderate horse really.
@@georgeratkovich7161
I reckon there are 20 horses who raced in Australia in the past 30 years who would have breezed pass Hartnell just as easily as Winx did.
Hartnell looked “pretty good” because what he ran against and what Winx ran against was decidedly ordinary
@@georgeratkovich7161
Highland Reel was decisively beaten many times
He was 5-6 lengths better in other races than he was in the Cox Plate
Would Criterion be capable of winning the races Highland Reel won? No
The Caller: "The 2 champs go together at the 600"
Winx: "Hold my beer"
I think the caller was trying to evoke the great Bill Collins call of the 86 Cox Plate - only problem were the two involved
I only saw one champ
I don't know why but this last 800 gets me chocked up and v.emotional
Congratulations mr Waller
Shows she is one of the best horses ever. Reminds me of Dr Fagar.
Simply amazing. Five years to the day of Black Caviar's 15th in a row.
Wow . And do you know what it was for Winx that day ???
I can watch alm her races all day. Its a blitz, its a winx blitz love it the best ever horse i have seen
Not a punter or follower of horse racing but that was AWESOME!! Racing in a class field and an important race and she just smoked them. She looked to be in cruise control with her jockey just holding the reins. Stunning!
She will win her third cox plate.
and 4th
Keep her in oz she's the best in the world make them come to her 👍🏼👍🏼
Yes, Black Caviar ,at Ascot, was a bit of a public relations disaster !
I agree let them come here and race against her.
Aussie Stevo Australia is not the A grade competition, there's less chance of the elite middle distance horses racing here than in the major European races. There's nothing in world racing that can compete with her under Australian conditions. I'd like to see her out of her comfort zone. For that she would need to go OS.
And yet many Aussies had a totally different view to that about Frankel.
Best caller too
Just seen Monarchs Glen win here at Kempton. Wow!
What a horse, it baffles me how anyone cannot be in awe of this equine wonder, just majestic...

World Handicapper: Winx 132 - Almanzor 129
Timeform: Winx 133 - Almanzor 133
Racing Post: Winx 130 - Almanzor 129
According to ratings, and visual impression, Winx was probably the better horse. However, had they raced against each other in the Cox Plate and Champion Stakes of 2016, who would have prevailed?
Cox plate weight allowance: 3lb Alamanzor
Champion Stakes weight allowance: 2lb Alamanzor
Theoretical winner of Cox Plate according to:
World Handicapper - Deat-heat; neck and neck finish.
Timeform - Almanzor
Racing Post - Alamanzor
Theoretical winner of Champion Stakes according to:
World Handicapper - Winx
Timeform - Almanzor
Racing Post - Almanzor
So according to these figures, Almanzor may have BEATEN the great mare, at the peak of her powers, had they clashed in October 2016 over 2000m.
This goes to show, for as brilliant as Winx is, and was, Almanzor has been massively overlooked (and underrated) by fans and journalists as a horse who existed at the very same time as the mare, and *may* have beaten her.
There is more chance that I'll get a root from my Wife than anything beating Winx in her 3rd Cox Plate in 2017....
Or 2018 haha
Look at the difference in "rating" as they come down the straight. Count the rhythm of Hartnell's front hooves hitting the ground, then count the rhythm of Winx's front hooves hitting the ground. Most horses lengthen their stride when under pressure, but Winx keeps her stride length the same, (relatively short) but increases the pace at which her hooves hit the ground. I wouldn't think you could train a horse to do that (correct me if I'm wrong) - it's instinct.
yes its all instinct at this level. she gets it from street cry her amazing papa
@@BluffCreekStudio Oh ok. I wasn't aware that her sire did the same thing.
Winx and Street Cry are absolutely chalk and cheese. SC’s action was massive compared to her’s. Her stride rate is pretty unique. Beau Zam was the only one I can really think of that had a similar action.
Winx thank you in 6 months time i will win again ,thank you Winx $2.10 now , 15 wins in a row
Looks like Caravaggio & Lady Aurelia may come here to race in the Everest and if so what a race it will be
rewatch the 2000 cox pate the mare of the world woulda been hard to catch that day
Read all of my comments on Winx all made over 18 months ago. I said this horse will win every race she is in and how right I was. All of the haters suck on that.
I was talking her for 18 months too. Plenty of people have had doubts but there's not much they can say now unless they are blind.. She is a super star..
Was the Queensland Oaks 2015 that made me take notice
Yes you have been on her the whole way. Me too. She's a champion
Matt her run prior to the Queensland Oaks was the Sunshine Coast Guineas. That was even better.
+AnotherFastnet70 Agreed it was crazy.. I've watched the replay a few times.
Wowee
When is he going to learn !!
rating 132 (without allowance)
the one of best turf horse
The faster ground was on the extreme outside that day but it doesn't detract from the strength of the win at all.
Winx would beat Manikato at 1400m plus in my opinion. Her turn of foot is so effortless. As good as Manikato was we don't need to go too far back to find a horse who would have beaten him at 1200m either.
After your magnificent seven losers in the Melbourne Cup, your opinion is worth............... toffee ??
postcard terry. I backed Prince of Penzence in the Melbourne Cup in 2015. Profited last year too on the Cup. I think you meant the Cox Plate though. I think you've got toffe on your face. Here.
2:53 to 3:00 ... What a roll call of winners! And yes - this is the best ever.
What about Dulcify Bruce?
Excellent Australian middle-distance horse. She would definitely be up to winning at Group 2 level in Europe.
Always got to have one smart arse. What was vadamos... an out of space group one winner?
seriously teddyboy you need to take a reality check
Easy Tiger!
Thank you Winx,Thank you
Bob Gardiner, you got 1.26 on Winx last time well done !
She is the best horse in the world at the moment bar none.
wayneo1269 on grass maybe... Arrogate is the King
Running Down a Dream who knows really
What a mare!
This horse knew the final turn at the valley and what it meant. Bowman just a passenger.
Great win. Says a lot about the state of the track though that they were running so wide to avoid the inside.
Just pure motion in a horse the only animal that gets me emotional when she races
Winx absolutely blew Hartnell away from the 500m on… phenomenal.
Could they set up a race with Arrogate? Maybe in Hong Kong or something? I'm sure they both run similar distances. Would a 2000m race be the best?
Incredible runner...what a performance!
This is a blitz its a winx blitz how good is she odds on to win 4 straight cox plates the greatest weight for age race in the world
Fastnet, Cant read it mate ! We don`t do the lotto here. Fixed prices and fixed returns. Nice to see you recover your MC losses or half of them.
don't take her overseas!!!!
I know right?
She is currently the best horse in the world. I concur B Gardiner......
Her Stride rate is just so much higher than other horses
And notice at 2:00 that Winx gave no fucks anymore.
Bad Ass Mare!
They were good odds for Winx! If only I had a lump of cash back then!
XX
winx is a freak dont need go overseas thay should come to her . so good :-)
its not about the money its about being able to truly say she is the best because she has dominated here and won there...So You Think won his first Cox at his 5th start and his second Cox at his 10th.
Agreed. The competition was better and she beat them more convincingly.
how did the time match up to previous winners/conditions
About 2 min 5 sec. pretty solid. She holds the course record but anyone of the past greats would hold that record if the all had the cleaner leading them out as she did last year.
Big Mitch very impressive watching it reminds me a little like the way Frankel went about his business
Time was 2min 6 by the way
Frankel ????
Whats the name of Sam Hylands horse?Hes a beauty...
what a call
and ...............can you upload James McDonald`s profit and loss too ?? You certainly gave James Mr Fastnet.
W...O...W.
amazing
Come on Bruce. You must have been on holiday when Dulcify won or you slept in . Just a good a win
Agree to disagree
Champion
Does anybody know who the caller is?
Matthew Hill he calls all the big races. i love love love he says "and bowman has NOT EVEN ASKED the big mare" in the more recent winx races. he doesnt even have to ask her... she beats the boys for fun :)
Thanks for the reply. Is he the same caller as the 2017 Cox Plate?
yes
The caller in this race is Greg Miles. Matthew Hill took over calling Melbourne races from Greg in 2017.
Sunline couldn't beat Northerly or Lohnro. Winx is a far better galloper.
tdunster2011 Sunline was coming to the end when those horses beat her..Northerly or Lohnro records don't even compare to hers..they only raced one or twice vs her. did they go overseas?
Sunline:
(48) 32-9-3 A$11,351,607
Winx:
(23)17-3-0 A$9,348,175
If Sunline was racing todays money she would be well over 20 mill.
Sorry you forgot Dulcify. Just as good
Winx won by 8 lengths.
Dulcify by 7 lengths.
"Demolition job". There are no other words
Leave her home let them come to her
Cheers
I dont think any horse will ever be able to match Secretariats performance which is a record which now stands for almost 40 years........32 length win in a record time
It was a benchmark performance... but there have been others throughout history that were at least as good.
what they gave that horse who knows
A great caller for once not a goofy
Sorry , in the cox plate secretariat would lead the pack by 20 lengths into the valley straight and no one will get near him !!!
Nice type 😉
makybe diva. all day. team parker
Jesus wept.
A nod is as good as a WINX to a blind horse
magnifique - vive le Winx!
two length lead on the final turn not bad, here's an even faster horse with an eight length lead on the final turn of a G1 race: th-cam.com/video/EqliNZvnFoE/w-d-xo.html
brilliant win freak horse...But how does she stand against the greatest horse ever Secretariat????...
Not in same breath
Secretariat was a great horse but certainly no lock to be called "greatest horse ever"
Pretty safely in a top 10 argument... maybe top 5.
He probably put up the greatest ever performance when he won the Belmont Stks
It's hard to get your head around. Beating a field by 31L could mean the opposition was average. Running a time that no horse has come within 2secs of on that track in 43 years could mean that the track played exceptionally fast that year.... A bit like the King Stand the year Miss Andretti won it. But the two together is harder to work out. As good as American Pharaoh was he'd have still been beaten the best part of 20L by sec.
winx blitz
Message for Bob Gardiner, B.Gardiner and B.Gardiner 2000. Regarding mudlovers or mudlarks Bob, name one ! I asked you to name one three months ago and you disappeared from youtube. I challenge you again ! Name one mudlover or mudlark !I am waiting ;-)
Sunline is the best mare ever
I would have Black Caviar in front of Sunline. Her record speaks for itself. I would also have Winx right alongside Sunline. If Sunline were out leading as usual I think Winx could run her down more often than not but Sunline was tough and she won 32 races so she also had longevity
I am a massive Sunline fan... but she was beatable even at her best. Black Caviar wasn't.
bgardiner2000 Sunline was my favourite horse.
Sunline was great too - but the score with Northerly is Northerly 3 - Sunline O! So where do you rate him?
Dulcify was just as good .
Dulcify was better. 1.5 seconds faster. Best win in the Cox by far
And her 3 other plates she was 2 seconds faster then him
@@anneshaw9681 quite ironic that Winx holds the current race record for the Cox Plate and you want to speak of times ? The track is now Strathayr and it wasn't in 1979. Do you get that concept ?
@@leedelaney70 dilusional. Thick as a plank
@@anneshaw9681 I have proven you to be precisely that. Imagine somebody trying to compare times between horses 40 years apart on different surfaces. Oh wait...….
Not bad, not quite Sunline but not bad.
@@CaptainStabbin1989 lol you casuals are funny!
@@handsomehandsome9854 Trevor Mckee said sunline would be lucky to beat winx in one in every 10 races. Do you know better then him?
@@nathansmith5517 why yes, yes I do.
better than kingston town and tulloch
That's a huge call Kim. May I ask your age
Please take her overseas! Nothing left for her in Aus
More prize money here!!
Almanzor would give her a race. He's a proper horse
You're probably right... but the way she runs that corner!
B Gardiner who are you to judge anyone Gardiner! Have you ever given a winner pre race? You always tip the fav and it always loses
Yep, gave you 4 on Derby day in November remember? Think of the fish and chips you could have bought had you worked out how to get your wager/s on!

Abused any women on youtube recently loser ?? B.Gardiner ; the man who "does wonders and shits miracles" but cannot give a winner !You cannot criticize anyone two bob Bob ,now upload these massive bets !
Umm black caviar🤔
PCT, I recall a sire by the name of strawberry road in the states he sired kennedy road if I'm not mistaken could be a completely different animal but that's all remember of that name... the Paulson fam had a few good ones like cigar but he couldn't run a lick on turf... cheers
The only Kennedy Road I can find was male, and born in Canada in 1968 , and his dad was "Victoria Park". Sorry Tina.

C'mon your telling tales now, Winx is a great horse but better than Phar Lap, Kingston Town, Bonecrusher, Sunline, Makybe Diva ... hmmm
What do you think now
She would brain the last 4 horse you mentioned
@@nathansmith5517 no
@@handsomehandsome9854 Which one wouldnt she brain
Winx wouldn't sniff sunlines tail if she gave her the headstart she tends to do in a lot of her races, winx is good but not that good.
She is a great mare but she isn't quite So You Think!
Tommy Tookalaba she's not yet. She's done nothing in Europe yet and he had won back to back cox plates before he had technically turned 4
The word from Chris Waller now is that if Winx wins a third Cox plate this year she will have be off to have a crack at the Europeans - possibly even to America for a go on the dirt given her Street Cry pedigree suggest it won't be an issue.
www.stuff.co.nz/sport/racing/88758776/Kiwi-trainer-Chris-Waller-targeting-Europe-for-worlds-best-turf-galloper-Winx-in-2018
tdunster2011 Well if she comes to the US please keep her away from Arrogate...he's a beast you don't want to mess with
Arrogate looks like a wonderful middle distance horse. I think it would be great to see them race. Our prize money here is very good and everyone in Australian racing would love to see a champion like Arrogate in our 2040m Cox plate which is the most prestigious WFA race in Australia.
That is NOT going to happen ! Why should Arrogate`s connections give Oz such a treat when Oz trainers are scared stiff to race abroad these days.
I don't get it it lost weak ass races at Warrick farm and Randwick when it first started its career and now this...
Win your 3rd Cox Plate Winx... then you'll be equal to The King.... but not before.
Bowman could only talk about himself. What's with him signing his name on a camera lens anyway? Pretentious wanker.
BOZSTOP DONALDSON!😂😂😂😂😂
