Guys this show needs to be on mainstream TV . They are not afraid to speak the truth and no one dictates what they should and shouldn’t say. Some conversations are hard to have but they must happen if any real change is to come about. I say to journalists out there report what you know and see not what you are told to in trying to brainwash the average person watching. Luckily many of us have a brain 🧠.

It needs to be told, though it’s actually sad, I almost didn’t want to know this information as it shows what’s been stolen from us and the kind of life we are forced to live daily.

Luckily some of us oldies had a Grammar school education & actually remember, all be it vaguely, some of what is being discussed here: the Hudson Bay company, the East India company & the Opium Wars at least.

I've enjoyed this episode of downstream massively, I'd love to see more historical styled content and more from Kojo Koram too. There was a slight problem for me that the sound was really quiet which was a real shame. Thanks so much for making this :)

That was educational to say the very least. Dr Koram, quietly spoken and a treasure trove of knowledge is the person to 'go to' when the world needs to know how we got to the mess we are in today. I'd never thought enough about the business aspect of the empire. The empire itself is talked of by the media in a past tense, but it is being carried on through the operation of the business world and the embers of empire still very much red hot, in the tax havens that exist for the benefit of the corporate victors. Yes this is very much a mainstream TV subject. Let's see if any channel is brave enough to post this video as mushrooms need to rise from the dark.

Truly excellent video. This is an important conversation around empire we should be having. The very real, ongoing impact of the hoarding of private wealth gained through imperial exploitation. Can't wait to read this book! Thanks again, Ash!

This was excellent. I’m always down for some contemporary analysis on how the empire is still very much relevant and present in the world to this day. Going to buy his book as well! Thank you for this

Dr Kojo Koram - It has been a great pleasure to have listened to you. Also edifying. Thank you.
Ash - This is a great channel, your interjections were at times somewhat 'Junior Common Room humour' and were distracting. You had a great guy with some serious and well informed things to say, but you got in the way a little. When you gave information you were great and your questions were superb too. Just my take - I have subscribed.

Most World leaders, political, business or otherwise can be characterized as the world order of kleptocrats. Seen from that reality, action and non action taken by members of this order are consistent and logical.
I do in a dark way admire the ability of the kleptocatic order to frame the dialog in such a way that people concede, even now when the situation has escalated to fearful levels.

Fortunately for us we have several ways to control our audio volume. My YT volume is at about 50% and my system volume is at 66% and I heard them just fine. The best part is that they weren't shouting,, as so many YT presenters are wont to do.

  • @MikeyRussell88

Great show, my only issue is from a technical point that the audio is very quiet in comparison to TiskySour (assume different recording software used). It's easily corrected by running it through audio normalisation (ideally -16 LKFS).

    1. No one should own more than one house, nor should they own more than one farm or business.
    2. The tax rate for millionaires and corporations should be 95%.
    3. Every human being should have a home, heat, lights, communications, food, healthcare, education, and transportation, whether they work or not.
    4. Those who choose to work should own and control their workplace.

While many figures in the Labour government were seeking to depose Mossadegh (even by invasion), the record does suggest that Attlee was a moderating influence on their hawkish tendencies. Nonetheless, he did approve a naval blockade of Iran.

Getting the book. Extremely helpful discussion. The internal colonization of UK, US, USSR, and others is an untold and critical story, and it is still in progress. We are both colonizers and colonized if we reside in the western middle and working classes. The call to focus on material transfer is also crucial, though of course culture IS substance in human affairs, and is intimately connected to the sharing of the spoils, so we can't ask people to stop caring about it or about their place in it. But we can ask people to look honestly at the power and inequity and trauma embedded in our relations, and demand better.

A codified constitution is not a good idea.
"Be careful what you wish for"
    Parliment is Sovereign
UK should become like Singapore, state led intervention /development/public housing

    • @BigHenFor
      @BigHenFor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. A codified Constitution is a better bulwark against tyrrany than a bunch of promises that a rolled back over time, e.g. Conventions, and opinions, etc that are made by the latest spiv on the scam.
      2. Parliament is NOT sovereign when money will buy influence of the MPs and Life Peers that comprise it.
      3. You really need to understand that Singapore has been and still is, a single party, authoritarian state, where opposition leaders have been disappeared, and only the oligarchs can actually own land. Like most things, fine for those at the top but, not much fun for those at the bottom.

Oh dear she thinks that somehow a murderer arranged for Diana’s driver to get massively pissed and then smash the car killing himself. Or maybe it was the passing motorbikes which caused a crash. How did they know she’d be killed? How did they arrange no seat belt? It’s bonkers and Ash’s judgement is very flawed.
