@@alansaatkamp699 I am, although it's all on hold presently. I model O gauge and have an unfinished brass SD9 as #1221. I look at a lot of these videos for reference since I live in Europe.
Thankfully no true time sensitive merchandise on the train. Thanks for including the drawing of the yard as they actually have a bit more track that one can readily see Back in previous time this was an inspection and cleaning area.for the former D&M box cars that would be going to Ontonagon. This probably is the most elongated time length to make a move
Thank you for another wonderful switching video, KillerBee! I enjoyed watching the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad switching cars in Crivitz, Wisconsin. It is interesting to watch the crew move cars from one location to another location to make up a trai. (Posted 25 October 2024 at 1800 CDT.)
Not sure it does. Like many short lines they appear to be just hanging on. But it seems they are moving more high revenue traffic lately and not just primarily low revenue wood
Reminds me of all the shady and crazy things we did when working with and around all the storage cars in the Janesville to Evansville area. Every crazy move was just another opportunity for a derailment.
Brief glimpse of a cool gondola at 6:05: the yellow one is a custom design built for Brandenburg Industrial, a demolition contractor. Maybe the heaviest duty gon around.
I really like small railroads. Your video and narration explaining it is excellent. Engine 502 is really smoking at 6:32 in the video. The fall colors add a nice touch as well. The crew really paid for a cab to take them back? the RR doesn't have its own car? LOL!
The railroad pays for the cab. Railroads have accounts set up with local cab companies. But to your point, the ELS does have someone who can drive crews but I believe he was busy driving the other crew home then.
The ELS is privately held and thus does not make public its finances but I am assuming it is a Class III railroad as you have to earn at least $47 million to be a Class II.
Nice documentation. I watched ELS perform a similar "Crivitz Cluster" back in April of 2008. The north (or west)bound had 600-1221 (speaking of which, good to see that unit is in use again) and the southbound had 501-402. They quickly swapped trains and the northbound "kicked" a couple of cars down a siding and the southbound quickly departed town while the northbound wyed their power (600 had been leading out of Green Bay, now 1221 was leading) and began switching the yard, using the M/M branch for headroom. They kept the crossing on 141 blocked for nearly 15 minutes straight, leading to some very angry motorists. 3:46 I see the B&D No. 1 is still there; wonder when was the last time it was used.
In the 90's they had three jobs that would all converge at Crivitz at noon, exchange cars, then go back their separate ways. Sounds tricky but when you do it every day, you fall into a routine.
Nice to see the local railroads! Better than expected video and great narration! Keep up the great work!
Cool - thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. There will be more. "All I need is time."
This is priceless to me as a modeller. Thanks you so much... maps and an explaining talk through.
There is a prototype for everything.
Are you modeling ELS also?

Great vid. Thanks!
Glad to provide !!
Wow thank for the catch of ELS aka Penn Central jr 😊
Ya, for us old farts, it kinda is like a time warp

Thank you as always Paul.
Excellent video! Well done!
Thank you for the feedback - appreciate the validation.
The Crivitz cluster! Love the names you come up with for these moves. Thanks again.
Of course! I guess I could have stuck to dances and made it the Crivitz Cha Cha Cha but I didn't think of it at the time.
@@killerbee6310 LOL!

Happy to keep you engaged sir.
Another great video documenting ins & outs of railroading on the E&LS!
Thanks - they provide many opportunities.
Amazing that this railroad makes any money lol. Just got done watching a younger version of you on the GBW(WC).

Yep, with TH-cam you can be immortalized forever
Great video talking through the moves here! Thanks for the shoutout and it was nice meeting you up there!
Yes, good meeting you and Matthew also. Love your vid of it up at the river
Nice video and good explanation of what you're filming.
Well thank you - I appreciate you taking the time to give feedback.
Hope those tracks can get fixed. Those trains are getting heavier.
"Next year...."

Ah, thank you for that - it does stand out and makes you curious what it's story is.

You answered years of "I wonder how they do that " when I pass through crivits
And...every day is different.
Why does the SD40-2 smoke so much more than the SD9???
don't know but it also goes thru water faster too
Those northbound locomotives were really working for pulling a string of empties. Is there a grade to climb north of Crivits?
not sure but there was a cooperative engineer
Dang, those things go fast up there! Whats the speed limit for em?
Ummm...you mean like....10?
@@killerbee6310 idk, looked pretty fast from one of the shots I saw on your video
Its the shot around 2:30

@@killerbee6310 Yup, at the time other local railfans had mentioned that to me but on the particular day I went I never saw the third (M&M) job.
