About 2 years ago, a fellow parishioner handed me Roy Wenzl's book saying "you should read this, it's about an Army chaplain who died while being held as a POW in the Korean War". My friend is a Marine veteran of the Korean War. Reading the book was both heart-wrenching and humbling. I'm also a veteran. Army - 1979-2003. My first duty assignment was the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. Fr Kapuan was in the 3rd Battalion, over 30 years before my service. And as I read the book, I kind of vaguely remembered 1st Cav history and the tragic fact of some unit's being overrun by the Chinese and ultimately being POWs. I was so happy to hear that he has come home to Kansas! Peace be with you, Fr Kapaun!
From this military wife welcome home Father Kapaun for you have shown the world that there's no greater love in this world than God's love. Peace be with you.
There are some powerful interviews on youtube from several of his fellow POWs and how the North Koreans hated and feared Fr. Kapaun. His captors would tell the other prisoners not to listen to and avoid Fr. Kapaun because they knew how much strength and encouragement Fr. Kapaun gave to his fellow POWs.

The POW at the end reaching out or waving to the casket really got me
That was my dad, SGT. Herbert A. Miller, the soldier he saved from being executed by the North Korean soldier.
