Literally! Not many global, non-western groups would ever actually say that they are fans of the Black pioneers who paved the way in music. I love the credit they give!
What I love about them is that you can tell that they actually know and enjoy that style of music, it’s not just a concept for them. To me their y2k concept seems the most authentic right now. With other groups, you can tell that it’s just a concept or trend for them and the members don’t know anything about that style or the artists that pioneered that era.
I think a lot of the credit here should go to Simon, the producer. These girls didn't just happen to get enamored with hip hop and R&B from thirty years ago out of nowhere.

Nobody can question XG's musical pedigree when it comes to hip hop and R&B, they routinely named songs here that are older than themselves. No way they'd know those classic artists if they didn't listen to them on a regular basis.

i agree when it comes to overall rnb, hip hop, and soulful english songs, but just because xg is well cultured in western music doesn't make the other kpop/jpop groups that are still very knowledgeable and cultured in asian, korean, and japanese music any less cultured! xg is way more knowledgeable in western music than other kpop groups, yes, but we've seen other groups VERY cultured of their own language/country's music and that's just as impressive! an asian group doesn't have to be very cultured about western music (outside of their language, culture, and area) in order for them to be considered knowledgeable in music!! :D
It's more than just learning to sing in the english language. XG feels authentic in their passion, purpose and music direction. That's why they are a cut above the rest of the idol groups of this generation. You can even tell how they enjoy their own songs and not going through the motion like robots. It's refreshing to see in a sea of heavily manufactured idols.
This is exactly what appreciation looks like. They literally named multiple BLACK ICONIC WOMEN and said that is who inspires them. You've gotta be all the way plugged in, to be naming some of the artists and those songs.

I guess nobody in this group can’t sing. They all look confident in their singing, everyone start singing when they know the songs. I know it should be normal but you don’t know how many idols who aren’t comfortable singing live unless they are the main vocals in their groups.
