    This is a very helpful video. You would be expecting people to respect the sanctity of the area..
    I always think of knees and shoulders.i have used a pareo in the past to cover knees or carried a light skirt and long sleeve top.

      I've come to understand that many people do not know about the modesty rule. It holds true for any holy site you might visit, probably in many places besides Italy.

    Is a long sleeved dress just above the knee but wearing black opague tights acceptable?

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Definitely a long-sleeved dress is fine. I am not a Vatican guard, but I often see people wearing shorts and dresses that come to just above the knee.
      But I can't guarantee it would be ok. I THINK so, but I always err on the side of caution when I visit.

      No bare knees etc I saw people in short shorts

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2431990kh Yep it's very often the case that people can wear shorts if they are not too short, and nothing will happen. However, sometimes, you might wind up with a very strict guard who will not let you in with bare knees, which is why I say to be on the safe side, go with covered knees. I'm glad you didn't have any issues!

    • @Romewise

      Thanks so much! No, they removed all Covid related restrictions in May 2022. You may find some people wearing masks but that is up to each person. It is not required.

    @Romewise. I am a big fan of your video. I believe st. Peter basilica is open on Sunday. Can you confirm? Since vatican city is not opened, will it be less people to line up at st. Peter basilica? Thanks

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! Visiting the Vatican entails two major sites, 3 if you also count Saint Peter's Square.
      The two major parts are Saint Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which is where the Sistine Chapel is.
      The Vatican Museums are closed on Sundays except for the last Sunday of the month, when they are open and free.
      Saint Peter's Basilica is open daily from 7AM to 6:30 pm in winter or 7 pm in summer. There are almost always crowds at both the Vatican Museums and Saint Peter's Basilica, even on Sundays.
      I have a video about how to avoid the line at Saint Peter's Basilica:

    Dearest Elyssa, I have an inquiry, what are your thoughts about wearing a gold watch in Italy? Do you see its citizens and fellow intenditori adorning such appurtenances in the open? Thank you my love. 🤍

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmmm that's a new one - I assume you are asking because you're worried about it being stolen? Many people I know (Romans and expats alike) who live in Rome regularly wear whatever jewellery they want, including expensive watches. I don't feel Rome is any more dangerous than most big cities. I might not wear fancy jewellery if I was in a sketchy neighborhood and I don't generally wear fancy jewellery all the time but I see no reason not to if that's something you want to do.

    This is so helpful, thank you! Silly question, if I have a selfie stick that folds up small and fits inside my little backpack purse, can I still get inside with it put away in my purse? I wouldn’t use it there, but would have it for the rest of my day. Thank you

      I am pretty sure you could bring the selfie stick inside if it's kept folded and inside your bag and you don't use it. But I can't guarantee it.

    Can the shoulder covering be sheer (semi-opaque) material?

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This can be subjective and up to the guards but if it's semi-opaque it's probably fine. If it were me, I'd err on the side of caution and not take chances as it would not be fun to be turned away.

    Hi @Romewise, are we allowed to carry bag with size 18 inch x 11 inch x 6.3 inch into the St Peter's basilica? Are we allowed to bring 360 camera, ie. Gopro or Insta 360 camera into St. Peter's basilica?

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not 100% sure about the size of your backpack but it does not sound too huge to me. You can take cameras and videocameras but not tripods or selfie sticks into the Vatican.

    So my shorts just covers my knees, do you think it's ok? + Am I able to change to jeans/long pants if it's not ok somewhere? (I'm a man)

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the shorts cover your knees, you are perfectly fine. If they come to just above the knee then it will be up to the guard whether they let you in or not. The official dress code is no bare knees or shoulders.
      If you need to change before entering Saint Peter's Basilica, there are bathrooms on the left hand side of Saint Peter's Square as you face the church.
      If you need to change for the Vatican Museums, you can actually change in one of the bathrooms inside the museums as the dress code there ONLY applies to the Sistine Chapel and not the rest of the museums.
