A thread checker is a necessity for any shop in my opinion. And your shop has definitely gone from zero to awesome!

I put a few pieces of hitch receiver tube around my fab table and shop and have a number of things - including a vise - mounted to 2" tubing that I can set up in any of the locations in the shop. Works great. I made some stabilizer clamps by copying a trailer htich stabilier that help keep anything from shifting around. I have my thread checker right next to all my harware as well. Best spot for it.

Hey man, you could do a custom ladder for your shelves. Think Barn Door style. Slides across from shelf to shelf. Wheels at top and bottom with safety locks. Either that or figure how to install scaffolding with a hoist system for items that have some weight to them. That way it's not such a burden to bring in that lift every time you need something and you're in the middle of a project. Just saying. Looks great and very fun-ctional!!!
I think the thread checker is a GREAT idea and would LOVE to have one.

Thread checker is a useful tool. Also, if you just keep light stuff in the same size bins you can slap together a lifter on a pole for those tall shelves

Maybe I'm still in the thread checker drawing. Today was my dads 88th birthday. I miss him so much. Thank you for your service. Go for the trailer hitch adapter for the vice. You won't regret it. Plus, if you need a mount for a new tool, the adapter is already in place.

I love the way you setup this garage. My garage is so unorganized it’s disgusting. I’ve tried and tried to organize it, but fail after a short while because I think I just have too much stuff in this garage. I think next time I attempt to organize the disaster, LOL, I’m going to apply some of these techniques you mentioned. Thanks for the video.

I agree on the hitch mounting for the vise. New shop looks great. When it comes to the shelves being overkill, id say its underrated. They'll fill up quickly, as see later in the vid!

I used to work quality control in a factory where they made sweaters. I was a thread checker and would cut off extra thread..

Currently have a thread checker in the Amazon cart but a free one would be better. Just finished up a garage overhaul myself post home reno. An organized garage is the best.

Badass shop, and yes a thread checker would be awesome, just went to Lowe's a week ago, needed nuts to match some bolts I was using for a honey do project! Lol
Installing a vise, bench grinder, reloading presses, microscopes, candy dispensers, or anything else you can think up, on a 2” receiver hitch is way more useful than you would think. I think I’m up to 14 different mounts that are all swappable, and I love them much more than I ever thought I would. A thread checker that’s mounted on a board like that would be more useful than the aircraft cable style I have in my wish list.

The garage looks Awesome and I love the placement of the thread checker.
I take pictures with my cell phone of all of my cabinet shelves with the doors open and drawer contents with the drawers open and save them to a folder on my phone. Then I have flash cards that I can study from time to time to keep familiar as to where I have everything stored. Im constantly rearranging things for work flow reasons as my shop is constantly evolving. There's always a better way. I'm 62 years old so change isn't so easy for me but it is paramount.
I have two words for all those tools on the wall. Tool grid. It's a damn shame, guys, like that have the money for a shop like that and don't know what to do with it. Lol. I'm not trying to troll lol. Great shop brother.

Do the hitch receiver you won't regret it, you can make a bunch of mounts for different tools, I've got em on tube benders,rollers,arbor press, vice

Some cool tips. I used to have some tools hanging from pegboard hooks, but didn't like how dirty it all got. when I did any woodworking stuff. I now have all my hand tools in toolboxes. I wanted one of those thread checkers, but I didn't want to spend that much. I have one like that at work, but at home a have the ones that come on a cable.
The cable ones might be handy to throw in a toolbox also.

01/12/2024 Great video on getting everything organized! I'm going to rip the doors off my cabinets in the garage this weekend. I never noticed until you pointed it out, what a pain the doors are! Oh yea, the thread checker looks great! Pickle Beer would go great with a magnetic cup-holder!

No shop is complete without a thread checker. Yessir... The thread checker is the first thing I'd install, and to make sure I had the right sized screws, I'd use...a thread checker.
Thread checkers are always handy to have, the Emergency area is a hoot! I’d suggest the bathroom is top of the priorities list but happy wife happy life
The thread checker is something I've been looking at as well. The paper organizer for your sand paper is a really great idea for any shop, never thought about it before and its extremely simple. Thank you for the inspiration. Cheers :)

First, I love the shop. Congrats and phenomenal job on the layout. The vise on a mount that goes into a hitch receiver is also on my list of ideas... Not only for my vises but also bench grinders. It seems like a great way to make things more useful. One thing to keep in mind is the vise should be able to move out a bit and up and down. I like the vise high when filing and low when using a hacksaw.
