The cover of the silo was a manhole cover and it was launched so fast the slowmotion camera couldn't pick it up meaning it was going at least fast enough to leave orbit.
Most people think it went so fast it got vaporized by the air around it crashing into it.

They capped this hole with an extremely heavy metal manhole cover. When the nuke detonated, the manhole cover was blown away and was never found. Even on high-speed film, it only appeared for a single frame. Loads of players who replay RDR2 stop playing or at least pause progression when that point is close so they can do as much as possible beforehand. Otherwise…it’s just sad. It’s the beginning of the end for one of the most enjoyable and beloved characters in gaming
