  • As many if not all F-150 owners (and newer super duty) knows, the door latches/locks freeze and you'll end up with door that won't latch. Very annoying to say the least!
I've found what at least for me is a fix! It does not require alot of tool and materials. Here's what I used:
    Silicone grease
    Silicone spray
    Zep 45 lubricant
    white silicone seal
    Electrical cleaner
For doorpanel (rear door) removal you'll need 7mm socket with extentsion
For handle removal you'll need 10mm socket with extension
    Prying tool to remove panels

What year, Ford? Did you find what method worked best? 2018 up, they are still having this issue. No recall that I am aware of only before 2018 recall was issued. Locks in our 2018 frozen and handles are doing the same. Most likely, I'm going to see if the dealer will replace it with upgraded handles. Not sure about the locks. Great video sir

I had it happen twice in the past month. Absolute joke that Ford cant do the right thing always looking at a way to cut cost & corners. They even took the backlight of the gear selector on the counsel it's black as night only one illuminated is on the dash SAD!

I had no luck with 18N03 “recall” I have had it done twice and still having same issue. Called ford directly and was told there is nothing further they can do

This doesn't work unfortunately I have done the same thing and more. It's condensation from hot cold mostly. I've coated the entire lock mechanism also with foaming fluid film sprayed the inside of the door with antifreeze, and silicone spray to repel water try to not allow condensed water to form or to help water run down and drain out of the door. Plus i spray inside the door latch coolant aka antifreeze in the door jamb and still had my locks freeze
The problem is inside the latch\lock mechanism. 1 part during opening the door pulling the handle pull up the securing part of the lock\latch making the latch release the door pillar catch, but what happened is the latch lock mechanism freezes in the open position when touches freezing metal part inside the lock exactly like if you touch something in your freezer with wet hands or tongue lol .. aluminum door creating part of the issue related to how it retaining heat or in this situation not retaining. Ford did not educate themselves in aluminum before changing the old metal. I got trained on Acura nsx repair bodyshop and it was made of aluminum back in the day! Also ford really used the cheapest door lock mechanism I've ever seen in 10years of bodywork and its the 1st time I seen NOT ENCASED AND NOT HIGH GRADE GALVANIZED METAL used for door locks here. These used to be WORLDWIDE REGULATED requirements and testing for all vehicles built with a PRIMARY AND A SECONDARY locking mechanism and secondary wasn't allowed to fail unless it's crushed by huge forces beyond high measures. The door should never be able to swing open the secondary supposed to catch hence when your door is closed but open just a crack!

Unfortunately, the recall is not a permanent fix. All it does is add a couple pieces of foam and a dab of silicone The permanent fix requires the replacement of the door latch assembly itself.
