Tim, perhaps like no one since John Hartford, has distilled the very essence of American Folk Music. Very few musicians come along who are so talented in all aspects of their art: singing, songwriting, musicianship. All of us are so much richer for experiencing the joy of his music. It is contemplative and sagacious, but at the same time exuberant and hopeful. It's a lot like the spirit of America.
Speaking as a lifetime bluegrass musician, I can tell you that we are all in awe of Tim....he is the everything, player, writer, singer, performer, God bless Tim Obrien. Jgo 2020
Always amazed at how effortlessly Tim O'Brien plays, his hands just wandering over the instrument in a seemingly lazy way, yet the notes are always there. Bela Fleck always impressed me the same way; no wasted motion. These guys will be making music in their '80's!
+Bruce Abbott The really great ones always make it easy, that is because they know their craft that well. He is completely on top of his game, relax and really to have fun. It is always impressive to experience someone that advance. The last worthy note is that he completely hears the music in his head and isn't on the instrument, that is reason for his playing with equal ease all the musical instruments. Then that one number where he had his guitar capo on the wrong fret and changed it.
@@SiggyMe I had the good fortune to see Tim at the "midnight jam" at the Merle Watson Festival in NC. He outplayed everyone there, and even gave Tony Rice some competition. He's a very modest person and it's a pleasure to talk with him.
Tim's playing his Martin signature model in this clip. The 00-18 Tim O'Brien. What a great talent and a great guy too. The quality of this video is awesome.
Tim was great with hot rize great with his sister mollie, just plain great. I first saw him in Wisconsin in 1976 with hot rise Probably saw him 15 times. He played in a small bar in chicago alone 15 years back we talked for awhile
Not sure I've ever seen a video of him playing anything but mandolin-family instruments, so it was great to see the variety. Very talented guy. I was blown away by him performing "Brother Wind" on Transatlantic Sessions -- promptly went out and got several albums.

Man of God! Thanks for your musik!
Never knew Tim O'Brien til today. Thanks for video to learn more about him. Keep Your Dirty Lights On is a great song, too.
I hope it's not too late to see him live. It's always good. He's like this--very relaxed. I saw him years ago WITH his band.
Thank YOU a billion, Tim O'Brien!
Tim always said Old-Time music isn't as bad as it sounds.
It doesn't sound bad at all.
Pick up the album "Real Time" with Tim and Darrell Scott. That's how I became a fan!
a great entertainer. I always enjoy him.
Awesome concert! Thanks for throwing it on U-Tube for all of us to see.
I'm so graitful to have found Hippie Jack's
His violin and voice harmony is incredible. at 18:00
Tim is currently playing with his old band, Hot Rize, and he appeared on the Earls of Leicester álbum. He's also played a lot with Darrell Scott.
He's doing such amazing things with all this instruments with pokerface, like a movie hero, which is not turning to an explosion.
That's the best comment I've ever seen on the internet Wayfarer8!
I find this comment 7 years later. Lol.
Love this so much

Awesome!
Great talent
How can anyone not enjoy this?? Only thing I don't like is it's too short........
13 people are drinking whilst they try to hit the "like" button...that's the only thing I can figure on it.
I think I really like this! Now don't you?
fuck mee that guy is rockandrolll.........
Something of the mandolin family, I think; four sets double-course strings.
That guitar.....
Hot Rize got my attention first
@ 35:58 the B-string bridge pin is about to come out, or damn close. Big deal but just something I noticed. Beautiful playing.
Can someone help with finding tabs for "where does the love comes from" at 6.00 ?
What was the gig he talked about in the first song @ 3:30?
malti-super-player
Anyone know what the name of the tune he plays at about 10:00 with the bouzouki?
When did he tube up the low D string? First song is dropped D. Second song is standard tuning.
What's he playing? Is it a banjo crossed with a guitar?
Instruments played in this video : Guitar, Octave Mandolin, Banjo, Mandolin and Fiddle.
You're awesome :P I realise how very vague that was, so thanks! Gonna go look em all up right now and find that sound
Late to the party, but if you mean the third one it's a clawhammer banjo.
Wait, when does the trombone start?
what is the instrument he is playing at 10:00?
It is a Greek instrument called a Bouzouki brought over by the Greeks in the 1900's.
Ben Goff Tim commented one time that "Bouzouki" was Greek for "out of tune". That put a smile on my face!
Octave Mandolin
LA BATTERIA NO??
