I wonder if the newer Celebrity ships are more tender friendly. We are going on Celebrity Reflection in March and was really hoping to take our daughter who is in a wheelchair off the ship in Grand Caymen. I even called the access number and they said “nope she can’t get off if she can’t walk a few steps. I told them we can lift her off and then just lift the chair but he was pretty strong willed and said that wasn’t possible. So frustrating!
This might be the case. The Edge class ships are built with tendering and port visits in mind. Also, always double check when you get on the ship, as sometimes phone reps might not have accurate information.
It really depends on the dimensions of your chair. You can send a note to the accessible desk at Celebrity, but really worth checking once onboard the ship. You will need to be able to pivot in a very tight space.
So what we have seen, is that the magic carpet is an option and is used with either Celebrity’s boats or other types of tenders vessels. But even if Colleen can get on the tender, the dock setup at the on the other end has to be setup so she can get off. Grand Cayman has a ramp that goes up to the second level. So great option.
