Acknowledged Incomplete Elements:
- Asriel using Ralsei's voice blip will be changed soon(ish)
- The scenery in the surface forest is very unpolished
- Pretty sure the time on the save menu is out of sync at the moment
- A character knows Asriel's name despite having never learned it
- Tileset details in the beginning section of Haven might be updated
- There is no new original music aside from the opening "King's Promise" scene yet. As such, "Star" is being temporarily used as a placeholder so you're not in COMPLETE silence during this section.
- As usual, dialogue can always be shifted around, removed, added, altered, etc.

Hey, just wanted to make a small comment here:
Firstly, the amount of reception this brief little showcase video has gotten has just completely floored me. Thank you all for checking this goofy little project out, and an especially big thank you to those who are sticking around!
I wanna clarify some things here since I see it popping up a bit:
1: Versotale is NOT a role-swap AU! The main point of divergence from the canon timeline is that monsters won the war and humans were trapped underground. As such, the story does not follow typical Undertale plot beats and roles.
2: We have a Gamejolt page now! Check out the description to find it!
3: The contents of this video are HIGHLY subject to change! This is still INCREDIBLY early on in development, most of these rooms and such having only been completed within the last two/three months or so. I made this moreso to show what I'm working on as a brief showcase and less of a "This is EXACTLY how the beginning area is going to look and flow!" As some of the more critical among you have pointed out, there are some issues, particularly pacing- and writing-wise, that I am aware of and will make changes to. TL;DR - It can only get better from here.
4: I want to temper expectations and ask that you not expect regular massive leaps in progress! Aside from some help music-wise, I am currently a one-man operation at the moment. What you see here is a culmination of six months' worth of progress. And with real life existing and all, I would expect some quieter periods from time to time.
Last thing: Seriously, thank y'all for the support you've shown. It's overwhelming. Seriously, it's, like, ACTUALLY overwhelming. I was, uh, NOT expecting this to gain as much traction as it did, so to have as many eyes on this project as I do now is, uh, quite a bit nervewracking lol! So, please bear with me as I regain my bearings and focus on planning what's next!

Hey why does grown-up Asriel have Ralsei's voice? I'd imagine he'd have instead a voice similar to his hyperdeath voice, idk but Ralsei's voice makes my brain go confuse
@@mariotheundying Ralsei's voice blip is a placeholder until I find a suitable Adult Asriel voice blip. I noted it in the description as a WIP element along with some other unfinished/placeholder things!

@ImDavidGD I feel comfortable confirming that Versotale is not a role-swap AU. Frisk doesn't replace Flowey, as his role... simply doesn't exist. I wouldn't expect characters to conform to traditional Undertale roles ;)

The dichotomy of humanity would not let such imprisonment slide. The fury would be unrelenting and even god would cheer their wrath as legions of a million angry souls lay waste to the Monsters lands. LUCKILY this is Undertale humanity which only depicts the “Righteous” side of humanity and not our dark side in which all our pain, trauma, ignorance, and insecurities are ready to lash out at whatever pisses us off enough to decapitate whatever annoyed us with an artillery cannon while we smile.
Same could be said about the monsters in og undertale. I dont think any intelligent civilization would enjoy being trapped for so long

I mean, these aren't all that common or even popular, does anyone even remember Overtale? I hope this one gets some traction since this premises are often interesting

Chara would've been a kid too long ago when asriel was also still a kid. Chara is either an elder or one of the statues, or simply forgotten
I maybe think Chara is Asriel's wife which makes sense since Asriel is classified as a king and not a prince

This looks reallly good! I've known about role-swap* AUs since the original game came out, but one where the monsters actually won the war is a first for me. I'm eager to see how this project turns out, nice job!
*Role-swap in the sense that the monsters won. Knowing that this story doesn't necessarily conform to the traditional Undertale roles makes me even more excited to see what can come out of this story!
We're in an undertale / deltarune fan project renaissance! So much good stuff coming out, and now I can count yet another one I'm super excited about! Very promising!!

I read all posts from the tumblr some time ago, so do you have any question?(be aware that it was the old version, and a lot of stuff changed over the time, like Undyne being death in the old one)
Versotale actually looks fun to be honest, hope it doesn’t get dropped
Sprite work looks really well. And the concept behind the story, and how it gives JUST enough context to lead you on, but only drip feeds lore is really nice! Can't wait to see gameplay of what I assume to be some sort of party style battle system.
I like how asriel's eyes in his dialogue box picture are slightly red/brown
Thanks! I got that idea from Toriel's battle sprite eyes having a slightly reddish-brown tint to them. Thought it'd be a neat little detail!
I'm normally not super interested in all the AU stuff (Yellow doesnt count as one imo), but this is a really creative idea. I'm kinda surprised I've never seen anyone do this before, it seems like such an obvious idea in hindsight, but I certainly wouldn't have thought of it.
I'm interested to see where this project goes! :D
(Also, I like the inclusion of some Deltarune mechanics)

Particularly in the battling side of things
Monsters are diverse
There are goat monsters, frog monsters, fish monsters, etc. So there's a huge variety
Humans on the other hand are... not very varied

I think they made the humans unique with they being fighting and stuff, they did say that there were various leader instead of one.
So in the first area is only kid, second area something, and on and on.

Man, we are in a golden age of UT fan projects with people who actually know how to write! I’m immediately intrigued, and looking forward to seeing what happens next. There are a few minor problems, but looking at the description it’s clear you’re already aware of them and working on making this even better. Keep up the great work!

The concept is really, really compelling, the writing is AMAZING... one thing that I personally place a lot of emphasis on and that deeply affects my enjoyment of fanworks is the writing, and it is just REALLY, REALLY good here!! Not only is the grammar immaculate, but the characters are written really well and are all fun, charming, and accurate (when applicable)! It was very interesting seeing a human character written with the charm of an Undertale cast member's charm - HERALD's little "- heh -" was just too perfect. Very excitedly looking forward to more of this!!

@the_second_channel I've seen a lot of UT fangames with lots of visual polish lately. I love that- the art is gorgeous and it's really nice! But... Undertale itself didn't really have super good art for most of it. I just like the rougher look to shake things up a bit.

Nice. I love this for some reason. The take on it being *A* swapped Undertale, but not *THE* Underswap is nice and refreshing.
Note: If you do ever see this, I recommend changing the dialogue for saves, since Monsters don’t have soul traits such as Determination, but, you do you.
Now this is something I like to see.
What I really want to see are Chara and Kris.
Chara for obvious reason, they were abused and in this version they can't just run away to the underground, as they are already there, umless that they runnes to an old abandoned place far away from their parents/bullys.
I also want to see how they will interact with Asriel, as they were siblings and bffs in Undertale(and college buddies in deltarune in my headcanon), in this fangame/au they should already be an adult like Asriel, maybe even older as Asriel stopped aging, I also want to see they interacting with Undyne, as that hates humans, maybe that could be an topic conversation.
I also want to see what tgey thought of the monsters that died, I think Chara had an small relationship with them(at least with Asgore if Toriel still died in the Haven) and would still not like humans.
They could maybe could be the third party member of the group, Asriel, Undyne and Chara.
And Kris too, just to see what you think of them, are they Chara? Are they Frisk? Are they an new character? I think they're Frisk, but I want to see what you think, they being someone new would be really cool
That's a WHOLE LOTTA story and not a whole lotta Gameplay, I hope you guys have some fun battles and cool puzzles in development cause right now you've got yourself little more than a visual novel.
Consider Undertale itself: The entire lore of the world is presented in a nice neat slideshow that rapidly conveys basic details in a little over a minute and you can skip it at any time with a single button press. Then the time from this cutscene to your first actual combat encounter with flowey can be as short as 15 seconds.
Your game has almost 5 minutes of intro dialogue with no evident skip function, and then 10 more minutes of talking and we STILL haven't entered into combat.
Yes, everyone who plays your game will be coming here from undertale, and will understand all the game mechanics, but don't use this as an excuse to skip vital game design elements. I would HIGHLY recommend adding a serious combat encounter somewhere in this sequence before you find undyne. Heck, I would even add random encounters, you'd need to add some space between undyne and the entrance but that shouldn't be too hard.
Consider another fangame, Undertale 2: You start the game, engage in combat in the second room, fight several foes in the third and fourth, and THEN you get a new party member. This allows the player to get a feel for combat alone and thus makes getting a new party member much more rewarding because you already know a second actor will make fights much easier. This kind of subtle design carefully ropes the player into the world subconsciously and is a hallmark of all well-made games.
So far it looks like you've got a solid game engine set up and you have alot of functionalities to work with. I'm super excited to see what fascinating new things you come up with to add to the world of Undertale, but be careful!
I don't want us to end up playing "Hunt Down the Frisk!"
The massive amount of frontloaded cutscenes with little gameplay is already something I have noted on the Tumblr blog before this showcase video released as something I want to tweak in future. So, don't worry, I was already aware of the pacing issues. (And, yes, there is a skip function, like in Undertale and Deltarune.)
I should note that, aside from some people helping out with the music, I am currently a one-man operation, so I appreciate seeing someone else looking at the pacing critically. 'Tis good to hear it from someone else and that it IS an actual problem

I've never thought about how Asriel would act as a king but it surely looks so awesome, the whole inverted consequences of the war is also a great concept!
Over all this looks amazing man, the sprites are perfect and Undyne and Asriel actually act in character. just some little things that I nitpick about, like still having the determination type of text on the save screen instead of hopes and dreams, but thats personally just me tbh. Cant say much since this was a small preview, but I am excited to see how things goes about as this does have lots of potential.

Well, the cast swapped with the fallen humans.Undyne even says how her friends are gone.
So with luck(bad luck) the monster who swap with the patience soul is papyrus, Alphys or Asgore.
It was Toriel in the old version, but you know, this is an remake with diferent ideas(undyne was in chara place as the narrator in the old version).
That or maybe the humans just flee when their health is low like in deltarune and It's impossible to kill someone(they just not like you).
But the creator in the comments seem to be saying that there is an bad route, so who knows
There's maybe also an third party member that could have something to do with it, but I honestly think It's chara, and as they aren't an child, they wouldn't be on the first are(unless the bad route doesn't happen on the first are like deltarune chapter 1)

I don't intend for any references to other fangames at the moment, especially not for the main cast of characters. I've already got the story all planned out and I wouldn't want to derail it just to put in a reference!
If it is like the older versions, all humans should appear.
In the old version justice was Sans, kindness Papyrus, bravery was Undyne, perceverance was Alphys, integrity was mettaton and patience was Asgore, with Frisk being Toriel
Of course, with this being an rewrite they could be an totally diferent places or even not appear.
Another fun fact, in the old versions, Undyne was the first monster go fall underground, being in Chara place as the narrator.
While Toriel,Asgore,Alphys,Mettaton,Sans and Papyrus died later in that order, and Asriel would find his parents dead items in it(we never git far enough to see his reaction to other monsters)
In this version something similar is happening, even if Undyne is alive and the Chara role is diferent, maybe even don't exist, she still tell Asriel how she lost her friends, so Alphys and Papyrus still died in here
@@ViniciusDiasissy I will say to disregard how the old iterations of the story handled it. I am... to put it bluntly, very unhappy with those old versions, because back then, it WAS just a role-swap with the overarching premise of humans having lost, and it still followed Undertale's story and role structure. Now... it no longer does that. I wanna bring something new to the table
I think an new way for Toriel and Asgore to die would be with old age, Asriel is older in this, with would mean that they would be really old.

Looks neat so far! I have a few items of feedback:
- I think Asriel's voice should be slightly pitched down
- The background in the "tuck and roll" section needs a little work
- Some more music would be nice
Other than that, it looks really cool. I'm certain you will find plenty of people willing to help develop this (including me!)

This is an AU that leaves me with high expectations, although I can't ask much of a small team like yours, but I hope that you take the time necessary to finish this project of yours, because I will be willing to wait as long as necessary to see the wonderful story this will have.
Before finishing I would like to ask 3 things related to the AU and the Undertale canon and the development of the story
Between humans and monsters, the angel (from the delta rune) is still the same?
The barrier that keeps the humans locked in was made with much stronger magic, I suppose, wasn't it?
This is not a question but, if you read this or those who are working on this project read this, I hope you have fun or are happy doing this, I have hope in you or you. I hope this story is going to be something amazing and original.

In here, the barrir seems the same, only that the humans need monster magic to open it this time, so the fallen humans and monsters kinda seap places(could be changed in the new one).

The monsters to die in order were Undyne(as Chara, killed humans, died, and became narrator for Asriel, but she's fine in the new version) Toriel,Asgore,Alphys,Mettaton,Sans,Papyrus.
And this seem to be true as Undyne says her friends are gone and Asriel spouse(forgot her name) says that Asriel is the only one left to rule beside her.

Of course the order they died could change, maybe in this version Toriel and Asgore were the last 2 to die instead of the first 2, in in he old version Asriel was an child with an adult body, as he couldn't grow up because his parents are dead, but Asgore and Toriel seem to be alive for more time in here.

And yeah, the fallen humans were in the monsters place, kindness is papyrus, justice is Sans, bravery is Undyne, perceverance is Alphys, Integrity was mettaton(and she was an cyborg), and patience was Asgore, all of this could change in the new version.

And, a chapter-by-chapter release is the current plan of action! I don't know _exactly_ how they're going to be divvied up quite yet, but I think the best tentative expectation is one chapter per area
