    The fixation with combos is THE most common block for players new to fighting games. Combos are needed to make a good conversion whenever you create an opening. But creating that opening comes first and is way more important.
    Obsessing with combos often blinds you about where is the true game, but there is an easy way to know: ask yourself, Am I playing alone right now?
    If the answer is "yes", you are not learning the game. Interacting with the buttons is useful, but interacting with your opoonent is everything.

      My favorite is when people learn a very good combo that relies on a bad/risky/situational starter, so they can do it fine in training mode, but get absolutely destroyed for forcing the situation against real people, and never get to do the actual combo as a result. It's much better to start with simple combos that start with safe pokes, and go from there.

    Tekken is known to be the hardest fighting game on the market.. and starting with Ling, being one of the most complicated and technical character, is nothing to scoff at. Tip my hat to you. And welcome to the LingNation😊

      So right about Tekken and Ling. Tekken is the hardest for sure, but it’s amazing when you make real progress. Unfortunately it takes a very long time. Tekken demands your dedication. Best fighting game for sure.

    That talk about feeling like you chose the wrong character definitely resonated with me as a Panda player. It really felt like the "I'm having fun" voice was too easily drowned out by how shitty it felt to plateau at Warrior, and that learning a new character would somehow fix that. Phidx talks about positive mindset and looking to tough/humiliating matches as opportunities to learn, which is difficult to keep up but better than the alternative. T8 is the first fighting game that really stuck with me, and as someone who didn't grow up with the genre it definitely feels like I'm behind the curve, that being said I'm having a really good time and plan to push ahead and keep learning.
    This was a really entertaining watch, hitting all the buttons to make this blow up. Looking forward to more!

    Tekken certainly is a tough game to play but you’ll get there. Took me more time than I’d like to admit to get out of orange rank but it’s normal we all hit walls. Just remember to keep learning and keep playing. And try and use the replay feature it helps a lot

    I was not expecting to like Tekken as much as I do, but the Ghost Battle thing sold me on it. The blue-rank ghosts are just good enough that they defend reasonably well, and do proper pressure that converts into good combos, so it's a completely stress-free playground that can hop onto for 30 minutes if I have free time to get used to my character, and learn basic counterplay against a specific character (or get some free coaching from a high-level ghost that plays my character).
    I still play mostly other games, but I can feel myself getting familiar with Tekken on a very regular pace that feels really nice. It's definitely a feature I'd love to see on more fighting games in the future.

      honestly, I have mixed feelings about ghost ai i think it can be much better I am a beginner, but I am destroying the ai most of the time. I am trying to find some good ghosts but have not found any yet.

      @@sephirothlv100 They start getting good enough at blue ranks. They're still lacking a lot in movement, throws and throw breaks, but they do most of the other things (sidesteps, whiff-punishes, low parries, low blocks, optimal punish combos sometimes).

    Been maining Xiaoyu since Tekken 3. Shes very complex, but the complexity makes her a ton of fun. Im always amused when people call to nerf her though (like they did in tekken 7). So OP that barely anyone uses her lmao

    Damn, I recognize so much of this. I played Tekken 3 back in the day a lot but after that never. I picked up Tekken 8 together with my gf, she has more experience and we practice a lot. I can feel myself also getting better, the more I focus on improving side stepping, blocking, playing reserved and look for openings. Spamming only gets you so far. I just hit rank Warrior with my Jun (After playing some ranked with Reina and Asuka) and pretty happy already. Surely, the progression like you explained is very similar. Best thing is, I bought an arcade stick and modded it with the Sanwa buttons and Stick and it feels so smooth and fun. Keep going and I hope you get orange ranks soon. Statistically, hitting Garyu puts you in the upper half of players and something you can be proud of.

    When you speak on the mirror match, I also try to have that mindset. If they are better, I try to mimic them. If I'm better, I'm hoping my opponent is taking notes. Tekken has been a very welcoming community and I am so glad I picked it up. Keep up your training, looking forward to seeing your progress! 💪

    Always fun to see someone get into a fighting game, great video! I’ve been much less diligent with tekken 8 since like 5 games I wanted to play came out within the last few weeks and overwhelmed me. This inspired me to get back on it today and practice using the five pages of notes I wrote for a 50 minute kuma guide lol

    14:02 yeah that's the biggest trap when jumping into a fighting game but especially in Tekken. It's my first time picking up the franchise but I've played SF and other 2D games for a long time now, and after a while of learning new games you realize learning combos is the least important part of the game when you're brand new. Learning Neutral is more important - how to land the first hit and not get hit. I got to Red ranks in a couple of weeks using the same super simple combo while focusing on everything else about the game.

  • @haliamyx
    @haliamyx 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    yeah this is why I don't play tekken online and play it offline- I just can't do combos on command, and I'm hitting buttons but its not giving me the same move coz I miss the timing just slightly and if I can't do it on purpose then i probably wont do well in a match where it's all strategic and all about timing. but this video is so relatable esp since Xiaoyu is also my main XD and people gun for her because the people who play her are stupidly good so she has a reputation aha.

      @QU141. 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yo I'm a new player too, I got to GoD about a week ago after only about 3 months and I have some advice. The only real way of getting better at this game is LABBING. You can't just hop on the game and expect success. You saying "I cant even get a hit in" and "Straight Spam" means that you don't know how to deal with characters. You need to learn basic stuff like using armour, sidestepping moves, and just playing more in general so you can learn on the go.
      About a month in the game I was at battle ruler and was getting "spammed" by moves such as kings 10 hit combo, "spammy" Hwoarang players, etc... So you know what I did? Went into the replays and labbed. Also, looking up tutorials on how to beat certain characters on YT. And then about 2 months in, I hit tekken god. Nobody was able to "spam" me anymore, because I knew how to counter it.
      I'm not going to lie, not everyone can learn at such a fast pace, and not everyone has that much time, so breaks are needed.

  • @YeahNaw
    @YeahNaw 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Lmao, yea Ling is one of the worst character to learn Tekken with because she doesn't even play the game! Most characters, you'll basically just have to memorise the moves and learn the game via just playing online. With Ling, she requires extra time in training mode experimenting with set ups. The reason why you don't see high level Ling players do long strings is because they rather have the wake up and get damage there. But that level of play isn't practical below Purple ranks because everyone just mash panic, so be careful if you're trying to replicate that playstyle!

    • @EditedbySilvers
      @EditedbySilvers  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Everything you said Im starting to realise as I’m still playing, I’ll probably try and get Xiaoyu to red ranks then make switch to another character!

      1. How would a new player know what a top tier looks like or how to use them?
      2. Being top tier doesn't mean they're easy to learn for a new player
