Honestly, The Sims hasn't been the same since Maxis stopped being involved. It's really lost most of it's quirkiness, charm, story, and content.

Honestly how absolutely pathetic is that poster. “4 games, 75+ packs” seriously? You’re proud of including so little in four games that it was necessary to produce that many packs AND charge almost as much as the base game for them? The audacity.
When Sims 4 was announced, my biggest hope was that it'd be a combination of Sims 2 and Sims 3. Sims 2 for the amount of content that Sims 3 was lacking, and Sims 3's graphics and open world. Instead we got even less than both and a restrained world with 500 loading screens. You're meant to improve, not get worse.

@@ameoncoffee It was an excuse. I had a low end PC and played the sims 3 without mayor issues. Some (many) bumps, but I can assure you the enjoyment I had from the Sims 3 was way more significant than that from the Sims 4, and I think that's a shared sentiment whether you had a low end pc or not.

They probably gave the team a low ass budget to come up with something in a short period of time to prepare and were like "good luck make it good" because there's NO WAY a team of creators would fuck up something so big so badly if they had money and time to do it. Trust me. People who work on the games are more skilled than cc and mod creators. But EA makes a low budget so they can’t do too much so they can put it in a next expansion pack. Blame EA,not the team that works their asses off.

yes!!! just remaster the old crap with a few more options and give them away since those other things are base game too. We didn't expect much! The biggest disappointment comes from expecting nothing but then they give away something most have already bought (and not even a better version of that). It's just such a slap in the face really. They didn't have to do much to make us happy, they had to do something we don't already have the ability to do / make. ANYTHING. It just proves they are only after money. They're not going to release something to everyone without making us pay for it.
Party goods, piñatas, actual bottles of soda for kids and teens, gift requirement (and a table to put them in with the option to open all gifts), pajama parties with pillow fights and other activities, not to mention surprise parties that NPCs could invite you a day after your actual birthday (in case your Sim haven't had a party and got sad about it)
Even if it was just some shitty items, it'd at least be on theme. "Oh! Party stuff! Cuz it's an anniversary!"
Honestly this is what I expected. The buffet table from the first game or something would have been cute and nostalgic.
And baby showers that can happen without mods. Or funerals.. or weddings that were like actual ceremonial type weddings where the sims actually sit and pay attention without having to use mods. I just feel like occasions like these should happen and/or be improved. There’s other things but I can’t remember off the top of my head.
They could've release some iconic items from the series.
Such as:
- the vibrating woohoo bed
- Bonehilda
- one of the small sims 2 telescopes
- the birthday dancer cake thingy (PERFECT FOR BIRTHDAY)
- Mrs. Crumplebottom being summoned from somewhere
- some revamped sims 2 clothing items (because those were truly lit)
- in fact they couldve just brought some of the furniture from the sims 2 (especially the lips couch)
- the counterfeiting machine
- the ability to actually graffiti and get arrested
- maybe the burglar alarm and burglars
- the genie's lamp
- the dance sphere
- the firewalk pit thing
- a set of drums
- the axe throwing activity
- a revamped shipwrecked pirate ship for the beach lots
- or if they HAD to bring back a hot tub, why not the love tub from sims 2?
Almost all of those things (pretty much everything except Bonehilda) require them to make new meshes/animations, so why bother when you can just spend 10 mins to do a retexture and not even touch animations? Expecting any good free content from an EA published game in 2020 is asking too much. And TBH, the less the incompetent Maxis devs touch the game's code the better, since with every patch they introduce more bugs than they fix and then the modding community has to fix their mistakes.

That would have been brilliant, the heart hot tub, either the Sims 1 or 2 heart bed, the lips couch, that rustic rock fireplace from Sims 1, 2 and 3 or the conical freestanding one fron Sims 2 and 3 and the dance sphere or dance cages.

At least you in Europe pays £15 for that, in Brazil we pay more than R$110,00, and this is ABSOLUTELY EXPENSIVE for the most part of the country, I refused to buy the expansions and the other packs...

As someone who couldn’t afford the pack that came with the hot tub, I was pretty excited, and then when I realized that it was done for the 20th birthday I was very disappointed, but I can’t imagine how disappointed the people who already brought the hot tub are. EA, letting their fans down for 20 years.

Sims 2 works fine on Windows 10 for me :) there were 2 little graphics bugs that I needed fixes for, but they were easily fixed...
@@BigFriendlyEvie I've done everything from downloading new drivers/versions of direct x for my computer to reinstalling the game (and forgetting to back up all my mods/saves) and it still won't work. EA's customer support is shit as per usual, so no getting help from them. The least they could do is release patches to make it work with more modern software.

@The Mad Hattress Have you tried using Graphics Rules Maker? Also, this next suggestion I've used for certain older games but not with Sims 2 so I don't know if it would help, but maybe try installing the game anywhere BUT Program Files, since the program files folder in Windows Vista/7, 8 & 10 has been known to create issues with older games. Either way, I'm in 100% agreement of a remaster. The Sims 2 is my absolute favorite game out of the entire series.
What's not working?
I got The Sims 2 "Ultimate Collection" that they gave away when they released The Sims 4 (I think) in 2014. It works just fine for me on Windows 10.
It’s because the heart and soul has gone out of the game. The Sims series used to be developed by people who gave a shit about the game, or who at least understood why players gave a shit about it. Now that Maxis is completely gone, EA’s sole priority is leveraging the love people have for the franchise to make money. That’s it. End of. It’s why we get the bare god damn minimum level of effort in every single thing that comes out.
It was utterly impossible for EA to participate in the nostalgia from the outset, because they DON’T HAVE ANY NOSTALGIA FOR THE GAME TO BEGIN WITH. There couldn’t be any “Remember this? Remember the first time you saw that? Remember getting to know this townie?” because EA as a company has never experienced it. It’s purely about money for EA. That’s why every new release is delivered with a side of “Take this, shut up, and be thankful” and the Game Changers and community members defending that approach need to sit down and shut the fuck up.
I’m proud of you for calling it like it is!
It's fucked up too that people working for the game come out to give out excuses why they can't do this or that, so EA and the sims team know exactly that we are frustrated that they can't do enough for us gameplay wise and literally don't anything about it other than spouting nonsense and popping out stuff packs that have no value to loyal simmers

TheWhamBam Yes! Thank you! I was stunned when I got the email the other day about the hot tub. I was like ... is that it? What the heck? It might sound a little greedy but considering how much money I've given EA over the years a little more appreciation to simmers would be nice rather than fobbing us off with a crap hot tub and expecting us to get on our knees and praise the kind guru gods ... I've not bought anything for TS4 in over a year. No island living, university, or realm of magic. Those are pak types (Island Paradise, University Life, Supernatural) I snapped up in Sims 3 and couldn't wait for! TS3 had so much excitement and depth. The Sims 4 kind of feels like that giant bag of chips you buy at the store promising bold new flavor, but it's only half-filled and has a bunch of broken bits at the bottom. Am I crazy or does that make sense? Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed The Sims 4. However, it just doesn't hold my excitement in the way TS3 and TS2 did.
Let me add up all the money I've spent on TS4, and I don't even own everything.
Ok, looking at my old email receipts, plus adding in the cost of the original premium edition, I've spent about $400 on this game. When I add it up I'm stunned, though I haven't bought a pack since Get Famous came out. I know I spent a similar amount on The Sims 3, but that was more bang for my buck.
I get Indie games on Steam, (My Time at Portia, Garden Paws, Re:Legend) for the price of a stuff pack or game pack and get hours of entertainment out of them. I had $20 the other day and almost bought Realm of Magic. Then, I decided to put that money on a new game altogether instead. I've not played The Sims 4 in months. If I had told my younger self I'd go months at a time without simming she wouldn't believe it.
you know what could've been a fun gift as a 20th anniversary thing? A recreation of the original world from the sims 1, but in the sims 4. Sure, we already have the goths in game, but wouldn't it be a fun nostalgic thing to get the world and the townies that started it all.

Things they could have released that would have been 1000% better:
- All previous Sims games and expansions available on Origin.
- Color wheel.
- Releasing a ton/all items from Sims 1 for Sims 4.
- Spiral staircases .
- Bunk beds.
- A new neighborhood that is a recreation of Sims 1.
- Videogame Development Studio lot with career.
- And like 500 better things.
I'm tired of the Sims team ignoring the players. Sure, we get to vote on new packs now, but that isn't *nearly* as important, to me at least, than adding more objects, skills, animations, and items that WE ask for. Harumph.

The Sims 1 to Sims 4 thing has got me feeling riled up because it's actually possible. Sims 1 items may seem super different graphically to the games that came after, but they're actually still 3D models! It's just the TS1 interface that makes them seem flat/pixelated. It is possible to convert TS1 objects to TS4 and CC Creators have done it before, the models even fit the style of TS4 so well. The reverse is even possible, I've seen TS4 items converted to TS1. A Game Pack of TS1 through to Livin Large and House Party items would have been amazing and I feel ripped off just knowing it'll never happen.

I was so blown away when I checked Origin and the sale they have for the anniversary is not only the exact same discounts they have on Sims for every sale but it-
1. Still excludes Stuff Packs
2. They're still pulling the bullshit where they have the base game for 75% off so that the sale banner can say UP TO 75% OFF!! on it as if their sales actually have any weight to them like Steam sales do
3. DOESN'T INCLUDE ANY SIMS 3 OR THE SIMS MEDIEVAL?
You'd also think they'd bring back the free Sims 2 promotion but?? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. EA Origin truly doesn't give a crock of shit about this franchise to even pay attention on a massive anniversary. I feel like the hot tub was the developers trying to do something, anything, while their higher ups at EA hadn't actually given them instruction to do so. Imagine if they'd made Sims 1 and Sims 2 available on Origin for it, THAT would have been super relevant.

The lack of sales on Stuff packs kills me--both in that it's hilarious and ALSO that I'm not buying ANY packs unless they're on sale... so they're just cutting off all of the buyers willing to give them less than ten dollars. They should do that at least for some of the older stuff packs, surely, but no: still trying to nickel and dime us out of a few dollars more.

@@cloudbusting.heights It isn't purchaseable. I know there were/are ways to obtain it on Origin, I have it on there, but that is not the same as it being readily available for everyone or on sale.
You know when you've been married for over a decade and wake up on your anniversary having forgotten to get your wife something, so you run to the gas station. You buy an ice scraper and some lotto tickets and return home, set it by the bed for her to wake up to. You go back to sleep knowing you got her something so she should be thrilled.
That is what EA did with the hot tub. 🤨
nope, worse because at least I didn't already have the ice scraper or lotto tickets (with a chance of winning some more) I would have been happy if they would have given us something ANYTHING we didn't already have. So many people have already bought the perfect patio pack, then they GIVE AWAY the reason we bought the pack! It's a reverse gift.
The better scenario would be, the wife buying the lotto tickets and ice scraper herself, then the husband giving her a couple dollars toward what she bought herself. It was just a slap in the face.
What also doesn't seem to be mentioned is that they've known this day was coming for a long time. They at least knew they'd still have TS4 last year, they couldn't have been working on SOMETHING for a few more weeks? They couldn't have released a new pack on their birthday? Even if we have to pay for it, at least it was something we've been asking for maybe? It was just so disappointing.
It really puts into perspective how little they actually care anymore about the die-hard lovers of the game. I LOVE the sims. They know we'll pay for their crap anyway so let's pretend this is such a big deal and the fans are either too stupid to see this is just shitting on them or the fans don't want to sound ungrateful.

Seriously, it's not like we got offers of savings and discounts when a new Sims series began if we owned all the packs from the previous series.
I turn 24 in March. I started playing Sims when I was 6ish too. My family loves the series so much and it was something everyone was excited to do/create together! We had every pack and fought over the family computer constantly. We watched each other play, collaborated together, and just had a wholesome time killing our sims.
The same was true for all later games and spin-offs. We devoured all the content we could! I was so excited for Sims 3 and man, did they deliver! Sims 4 had to be even better, right?
I devoured all the content and leaks for Sims 4 so excitedly, until.. I hated what I saw. It was gut-wrenchingly flat. Just an obvious rushed cash-grab. I bought Sims 4 finally last spring when they had a bundle pack sale.. Figured I would at least try it out then make my own judgement. Even after buying 2 more packs, I kept trying to make excuses for my lack of enthusiasm.. maybe I out-grew the game?
But I found out I wasn't the only one to feel this way. I don't like playing with mods or CC; I'm the kind of person to judge something as a whole rather than the sum of its parts. I morally can't play this game. I literally haven't played the Sims 4 in about 5 months. I've been replaying Sims 2 instead.
Will Wright described The Sims as a dollhouse game where the player could take the story wherever they wanted. Well this dollhouse is missing the literal story: It's hollow and just nice to look at from the outside. But without anything of substance you can't do anything cathartic with it. There is no love in this game. Just empty references and "throw-backs" to try to make you remember that this francise used to mean something to a whole community.
okay 1. that really hit me in the heart bc it's true and 2. the thing about not playing for months is true throughout the fandom. my friends and I almost all have the sims 4 and we've all said that we always have month-breaks from the game before playing it non-stop for like a week and I've heard others say the same about the game. after I heard about the other games (I'm younger and I couldn't afford the sims 3 when it came out) I downloaded them instead. i feel like EA let us all down

I’ve been thinking about this all day and all I’ve got to say is, they had us all do that great survey a little while ago about what packs we wanted updated and fleshed out more and traits we wanted and all of that. And tbh there wouldn’t have been a more perfect time for those preferences to be updated into the game than for a 20 year anniversary update and if it wasn’t for that specifically I don’t really know what it was for? Like there’s no real other time to do such a big update for free and frankly making us pay for it would be.... an insult cause it all should have already existed. So like, they had that big opportunity to really give back to their fans and their ultimate move was... a hot tub. What were they thinking?

It consisted of one large carved wooden block (the "King") in the center of two rows of six smaller wooden blocks. You can email EA saying you have a technical issue with the pack and get a refund in about 10 minutes trust me Ive done this before they dont make it super easy to find the link to the refund page but I can try to link it down here if anyone wants and also I suggest doing the online chat instead of calling and such so that it goes quicker

Honestly! Valve put all half life games for free on Steam to commemorate their new release in March. It's Sims' 20th birthday and we get a hot tub, or nothing in my case because I don't have the pack.

The anticlimactic anniversary solidified EAs relationship with us as a corporation, not a family. It sucks to know we’ve supported the Sims for so long, only for them to basically use us. They don’t care about our thoughts and feelings, and that says a lot about their company

I've been playing since the Sims 1. I remember the only reason we got it was because my sister saw someone use it to make a church for school homework (yeah, idk either). I loved this game and I plan on buying the complete collection again soon.
And when the Sims 2 was announced my older sister worked really hard to buy every expansion pack and style (IKEA one is still my fave) pack. Even to this day, I still play it because it is arguably the best one.
I really loved Sims Life Stories as well because it was actually going out of its comfort zone and creating this amazing little world. Again, I still play it every now and then because the story never gets old.
Sims 3 was where I started losing interest but that was only because of how slow it was and how much it used to freeze or crash on me.
Then came Sims 4 and it's just not doing it for me. It's too child friendly for me and unless I have mods installed, I have no interest in playing it again anytime soon. I mean, you know it's bad when their Sims Freeplay App on phones has more to offer then the actual series.
With the news of Sims 5 potentially being online and this 20th anniversary present, I'm just really disappointed but it's what I've come to expect of EA at this point. They're not rated poorly as a company for nothing. If they don't start listening (and I mean properly listening) then I am outta here.
Let's hope Paralives gives them some competition and the kick in the ass they need.
Unfortunately, as sims 4 have been developing I've learnt not to get too optimistic when anything comes (packs, updates...) With each game pack, accessoriy pack and even the base game, I just can't help feeling they're all incomplete; they lack so many things and then some appear in other packs for which -of course-we must pay if we want them. I think sims 4 is being such a disappointment, at least for me. I started with the very first generation, that was great, something totally different and the simgurus have been getting better with the following generation until sims 4. I still keep a little hope for something cool to come for their 20th anniversary though
The fact that the baby yoda statue is the best thing we've gotten for the sims 4 pisses me off a lot

This is like the time where they changed their packaging/marketing for the sims and hyped to us that there would be free cas items, that turned out to be one new hair and new swatches of existing clothes from previous addon packs - THAT PEOPLE PAID FOR, made free to base game, and so they just got ripped off. Honestly, the Sims franchise has just gone downhill recently and I'm not enjoying their content or service :(

Yeah, well. Guess this is upsetting. But what was really ENRAGING to me when I just realised this is the whole Legacy Edition situation. I'm sometimes not playing the Sims 4 for months and then I come back to play it very intensly over one or two weeks. So I didn't hear about the Legacy Edition until yesterday when I wanted to play and the notification popped up and I was like, huh? No-one ever talked about this? Maybe because all of the TH-camrs have super fancy and expensive new computers it just went past them? Because the thing is: This version does not let me play University or Tiny Living, which I HAD JUST BOUGHT. If the game would boot up at all, which it doesn't, most of the time. And if it does, it is totally buggy. Not like the-Sims-is-always-a-bit-weird-and-buggy but like, things don't function at all buggy. And then it just crashes! And I don't know, have I been living under rock or is no-one really talking about this? I can't be the only one, right? From what I've read so far, they don't even want to support this version in the future so... are the bugs and crashes just going to stay that way? My Laptop isn't even that old....

Preach!!! I was SO excited to log on and read through the list of the patch notes...only to find out that their gift was basically fixing the bugs. Really???.... You mean the bugs that you should have fixed BEFORE you released it to the public?! Those bugs, right? Ugh! Don't get me wrong; I love the Sims and have been a die hard fan since I was 15 when it first came out...However, they have SERIOUSLY fallen in my esteem. To be completely honest, I couldn't even play the Sims 4 without my mods which is ridiculous. My personal opinion is that the Sims 4 team has basically become dependent upon the modders to bring life to their game...which is quite pathetic.

Getting a bit fed up with the Sims at the minute, feels like they’re literally just ignoring the community on everything except the voting on the two packs. The latest dlc’s have been lacking, unfinished, and full of bugs. 😕
I am honestly questioning the community's input on the voting. They have knitting needles and knit patterns already in university, and we won't really know what was really voted on unless they release the numbers. It makes me suspicious honestly.

I have to wonder how far down the list Sims is when it comes to budgeting and resources for EA. First, the Mass Effect series went down the drain, Sims 4 is on a weird decline, and Dragon Age is becoming more meh with each addition to the franchise. I know it's easy to blame the devs, and their lack of understanding of their audience is definitely a problem, but EA as a whole is still shite and only cares about games they can have constant microtransactions on, ala EASports and now Apex. Thank you for being a woman of the people, as usual, my queen and let's get our Sims 2 remaster.
Sims 4 *is* on a weird decline? It was basically doomed from day one, not gonna lie. Yet, people still pay for this atrocity of a game. There're also quite a few "game changers" praising each new release as the second coming of Jesus. No wonder EA won't listen to any of the complaints -- because no matter what they put out, there're still so many sheeple out there buying everything that comes their way, no matter how mediocre or disappointing the stuff might be. I said it once and I'll say it again: The Sims 4 community seems to be in a desastrously abusive relationship with EA that they just can't seem to get or stay away from.
Mass Effect? Try going all the way back to Dungeon Keeper... then on to Command & Conquer, Ultima, the entire Star Wars franchise, Burnout, SimCity, Dead Space. It has been going on forever and everything their greedy hands touch will eventually be killed and buried in the mass EA graveyard. Let's not forget these were often tied to entire development studios where people either lost their jobs or moved on to slave on whatever cashgrab trashfire EA sent them to.

I was redecorating my sim's yard last night and came upon the birthday hot tub (I was one of the ones who bought the patio stuff pack), paused to look at it wondering if it was something I had missed at one point, and then moved on. I had no idea this was all they sent out nor did I care at all lmao.
