You echoed my experience at a 100% success rate. I was so ready to be deflated after tasting, I am SO happy to have been wrong. Still not buying "Generations" at $450, stupid pricing.
Jimmy and Eddie just know how to do it but the prices are getting insane,I bought a bottle of WT Tradition years ago for $125.00 and it was amazing even the container was fascinating like opening the holy grail I half expected to hear trumpets playing as I took the top off ,I thought that was a lot than little did I know, great review as always but Id have trouble justifying that kind of loot .🥃
Best WT I have is the Russels 13 and it may be my favorite bottle. Cost me 3 Blanton's in a trade and I'd make that again in a heartbeat. Not sure I'll ever be able to get this one though.
Thank you for making me feel better about my store sample of $50 (75ml). This is in my top 2 of the year. 13th DO still takes my top spot, can't deny the flavor explosion... But thank you Russell's!!!
This dropped in NC (along with generations) with no fanfare or any reviews like two months ago. It was really weird for $300-450 bottles to come out before a Turkey press release. Some people were buying it by the case. Glad I got one or some or 🤫
Great review! I agree it’s a super nice pour! I got lucky and a store owner friend sold me 2 bottles for 225.00 bucks each out the door! My favorite so far!
Haven’t paid more than 60 bucks for a bottle on a couple years now. I recently had a taste of this. It’s the best bourbon I’ve had in 5 years. Btacs, M10, you name it’s (WLW contender) it’s literally a perfect pour.
Glad you really liked this after laying out all that cash! I got an opportunity to a/b a sample of single rickhouse vs russels 13 and was really relieved to find I like russels 13 better. I oive the extra oak on russels 13. But damn it, theyre releasing russels 15 next year now....😢 I dont think ill be willing to cough up whatever crazy amount that will fetch.
Matt, just wanted to come back and say thank you for this review. Was talking to an employee at my local big box liquor store and he said they had multiple people pass on an email opportunity to buy this bottle. He offered me the chance and after hemming and hawing I finally said "fuck it" and bought the bottle. I cracked it tonight with my dad and it is hands down the best bourbon I've ever tasted, let alone a bottle I've ever owned. Your reviews have never steered me wrong, and I love the format and detail that goes into them. Cheers, my friend
Wild Turkey has totally lost me with their pricing on these releases I'm a working man and these prices are just not attainable I don't know it's really become depressing what's going on
I'm a working man whiskey fan myself and I'm ok with WT putting out Limited Unicorns so long as Rare Breed and regular Russels Reserve doesn't become allocated, impossible-to-find and marked waaaay up in secondary like BTAC products. I never want to live in a world where people hunt and brag over Wild Turkey 101 like they do over regular Buffalo Trace bourbon. THAT would be a sad day.
Yes, Mr. Matt,, greatest whiskey taster in the universe. I start to hesitant at over $200 cause then I think about how I could get multiple bottles for the same money. Party on garth.....
Even if is the greatest bourbon on earth it is still not worth the money. Two years ago I could still buy a Knob Creek 15 yr. store pick for $50.00. Manufacturers have seen what people are willing to pay on the secondary market and decided to cash in themselves. For $300+ someone from Wild Turkey should come to your house and give you a great swirljob.
The only reason bourbon is so expensive right now is because idiots continue to pay secondary prices for them. Stop buying it for a month or more and watch the prices plummet! But no, I literally watched a young buck buy a bottle of Elmer T Lee for $400!!! A bottle that Old Grandad 114 smashes!!! Unbelievable.
It is an incredible bourbon. I was able to get a bottle through a bourbon club. It was too much money but it gave me a great jump on my pounts for other bottles this year
Great vid! As a RR fan, this is a buy. The juice itself is incredibly good. I know the price is horrendous, but the experience is worthwhile. The balance & finesse is just topnotch.
Sweet review, Matt. I’m glad you had a great experience. I saw a comment to blind it. Sounds like a great idea. My limit in a cost: 125 USD. Otherwise I’ll pay college tuition
Crazy, I even had this bottle in my cart when RR dropped it last week but could not get myself to justify the price tag. Glad to see those that did buy it are at least rewarded for it!
Mine arrived but didn't crack it as I was looking for some trusted reviews. And I ALSO forgot to put the code in for free shipping. Thanks Matt, lots of content I'm looking forward to coming up.
Since I am still just starting my journey...I will stay under $100...heck, my most expensive is still under $70. To all on the board...spend what you are comfortable with...enjoy the taste...price doesn't always guarantee quality. That said, I have had the opportunity to try some expensive items...Old Forester Birthday (2022), Calumet Farms (15 and 16 year), Chicken Cock (Chanticler and Island Rooster), and others over the $100 mark while at a charity tasting...I appreciated them all...but I am not going to pay crazy amounts to own them. Actually the only one above that I would consider at $200 is Old Forester Birthday 2022. Again, glad you, and other channels, have the opportunity to check these out...and provide some guidance for us newbies. Besides, you make me laugh in every clip...just your random statements and I appreciate your honesty. Cheers!
There are too many good spirits other than Bourbon If your going to have a bar...Have a REAL BAR. No need to spend $100's on up. He is funny though, huh.
I’ve spent $250 twice - 2022 Angels Envy Cask Strength and 2023 Michters 10 year bourbon. Ordinarily though my tops is $150 for hard-to-find bottle (found a Blantons SFTB this year for $159).
Much love from the UK, I can’t even get these bottles, but you are so naturally funny and endearing I will keep watching anyway. P.s if anyone knows how I can get orders to the UK pls reply.
I know exactly how you feel. when I bought the knob Creek 30th anniversary 18 year, I bought two. That 500 bucks for both. 🙎🏽♂️ I was waiting around for the Russel Reserve 13yr, but the liquor store here in my town did not get it and now I see why.
First of all, 9.0 is a rookie score, and you sir, are no rookie. It's either a 8.9 or 9.1. I finally found a RR single barrel reserve store pick ~ four weeks ago and was blown away. Even though your description on the pallet of this is very detailed, I can't even imagine how good it is.
Well, I am glad you got it. Unfortunately for me I had it in the cart and I was in a poor cell service area so by the time I could keep the check out it was gone. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find it somewhere else for retail.😎🥃cheers
$100 is tops for me... Until it's not. 😂 I would probably buy something above if FOMO kicks in. Heading to Stoll and Wolfe locally tomorrow and try to pick up the Dick Stoll birthday bourbon. May he rest in peace. Look up Dick Stoll, last master distiller of Michter's when it was made in Schaefferstown,PA. Look what they are doing with Keystone Rosen Rye. I was able to taste several times last year from batch #1. Might change the rye game.
End of year video idea. Since this hit 9.0 you should blind everything this year that was 8.0 to 8.5 and then 8.5 and above. Or just do this in general so we can see if your ratings do change.
Dont care how good it is 340 after tax is ridiculous for WT. Which is exactly why I passed on this bottle. Sure glad i bought cases of CNF picks a couple of years ago.
I draw the line usually at 100 euros, I went over slightly once for Stagg jr. @ 105€, once for Blanton's Straight from the Barrel @ 130€ and once - and you are far from being not involved in that - for Kentucky Owl Batch 9 at friggin 269€, I still cannot believe I pulled the trigger there 😅🤷♂
Sounds heavenly Matt. That's a bit rich for my blood. But saying that, I just paid $220 for a Magnus and not long ago $170 for a Kentucky Owl. My top was $273 for a Leopold Bros 3 Chamber Rye bottle. I am glad I got one but I wasn't over the top wowed by the juice inside. There are so many good to very good barrel picks out there for less money, like your first Rare Character pick! Cheers.
Hopefully you learned a valuable lesson that no whiskey is worth over 150 unless there is some special sentimental value attached to a particular bottle.
Damn that sounds enticing. Everyone here in the comments is complaining about the price but I’d dread to see what it would cost if they made it available here in Australia. The Russell’s Reserve is $85 here.
Me and the fellas actually just tasted the 13th Colony DO and RRSR CNF and I gotta say as good as RRSR is, the 13th was the favorite that night. Cheers Matt Why not active on X?
$300 is the most I've ever spent for a bottle of whiskey, Kentucky Owl Batch #10 (which as I recall, is a favorite of yours). How does the KO#10 compare to the Russell's Single Rickhouse? Which would win in a blind taste test? Thanks for all you!
The comment you gave about it being Russell's BTAC makes me think it's worth the cost. I'd love to see you make a video of that side by side tasting at the end of the year between your top rated bottles. The proof on these are too different for a blind realistically, but that's ok we don't need it to be blind.
Part of my wants to say: "I would never pay that kind of money when I can get X number of bottles of X whiskey for that same amount!" It's a lot of money for a single bottle. But in reality, I already have sooooo many bottles... I might actually pay that kind of money for a unique & superior experience rather than stocking up on more of the same of what I already have, provided this is MSRP and not a stupidly inflated secondary cost.
Alright maybe a dumb question, but isn’t a single Rick house LESS exclusive than a single barrel? A single barrel would also be a single rickhouse…right
I was lucky to find a few RR13 for ~150 this year. And it’s the best thing I’ve had. Ages range 13-20+ in the blend. There is 0 reason to spend 300 on this bottle.
I just picked up a Kentucky Spirit single barrel aged in CNF. I wonder how old KS is and how it compares to the Single Rickhouse CNF. It's about 15 proof lower of course and probably 5 years or so younger if the Single Rickhouse is 13.
A Mustang payment....you got ripped off, as long as people keep paying bourbon prices will keep going UP.... Thanks. What do you think their doing to the juice/ barrels? Corn, Barley, Wheat, and Rye can only be so flavorful. With my Bourbon, Rum, Irish, Scotch, Whiskey, Tequila, Gin, Brandys, Liqueurs, Mixers and a few choice Vodkas I have, I don't spend more than $75 on a bottle. WIth 100+ bottles at my bar that I like, and there are lots & lots still out there. I don't want to spend the money on the $100's not worth it. I want a taste, I buy a pour (RARE) And I can drink it...Without crying and afford to buy again.
Glad someone else thinks that I had a pour of JD12 and it was just flat. It wasn't bad but just nothing there for me. I'll trade you a pour off my bar for a pour of the 13th double oak.
I’m sure it is fantastic but not something I will be buying. Even if I had the money I wouldn’t buy this or any bottle of alcohol. 150 is my cap and I spent that once for a 15 year old scotch that is still not opened. Luckily I’m good with rare breed and Russell single barrel that I can get and for a price I can justify. The generation bottle WT has out is even more at like 450. Sure it’s a cool story with the three generations collaborating but not 400+ worth it. And if I was to find a bottle of BTAC in my state it’s 125 per bottle. So the whole collection is 625ish. That I’d go for getting 5 top quality bottles but one at 300 just no. There’s scotch out there that is older and less that this. Prices are just out of control in the bourbon industry. Glad you enjoyed it sounds great. Enjoy!!
Sorry…I thought it was good but not amazing…I have had older amazing store picks that were similar. Maybe not as good but damn close and for a fraction of the cost Not a buy for me at 350…pass I like the RR13 and WT12 101 better
My face when I clicked the link and saw $450 for generations and $300 for single rick...priceless. Like eating a way too hot pepper. Or second hand embarrassment at Thanksgiving dinner. Random shooting pain in the gut. All these faces combined. And that's a hard pass
Calling this channel ADHD is insulting to people such as me who have ADHD when Matt is also clearly on the spectrum. Hopefully Matt finds the appropriate guidance from medical professionals (of which I am not one) to allow him to live his best life. However, I can no longer in good conscience let Matt market himself to the bourbon community as somebody who has ADHD when his behaviors on screen consistently present themselves as somebody who is on the spectrum in addition to having ADHD (such as my 10yr old twice gifted daughter). Be better than this Matt. The hundreds of dollars you make per month on YT pale in comparison to what you represent.
Thanks for the sacrifice Matt. Appreciate the review. I am sure its a dope bottle, but definitely out of my price range.
What do you mean by sacrifice
I think $100 is my limit tops and that’s every once in a great while. Typically around $40-60.
You echoed my experience at a 100% success rate. I was so ready to be deflated after tasting, I am SO happy to have been wrong. Still not buying "Generations" at $450, stupid pricing.
Wild Turkey's BTAC - exactly how I described it when I had it. So exceptionally good.
Spec's just called me this morning and asked me if i wanted this bottle. I said yes! Can't wait to pick it up this evening and pop the cork!!

Love your reviews Matt!

Party on garth.....
Wow. Was hoping this wouldn't score too well because of the price. Just makes it all the more tempting if I ever see it.
Even if is the greatest bourbon on earth it is still not worth the money. Two years ago I could still buy a Knob Creek 15 yr. store pick for $50.00. Sweet review, Matt. I’m glad you had a great experience. I saw a comment to blind it. Sounds like a great idea.
My limit in a cost: 125 USD. Otherwise I’ll pay college tuition
I got scared... Matt was lurking behind every door. So I subscribed. I can confidently say that he has left the building
Just opened mine and enjoyed while watching this video. Incredible stuff! The mouthfeel is something special. Cheers.
Crazy, I even had this bottle in my cart when RR dropped it last week but could not get myself to justify the price tag. Glad to see those that did buy it are at least rewarded for it!

Thanks for the FOMO Matt! 😂 I got that email as well, but didn't get to it in time 😑
my local store just got a 9 year RR store pick form this exact rickhouse. SO good. and under $80. for my money though ECBP c923 is top 3 of the year
Since I am still just starting my journey...I will stay under $100...heck, my most expensive is still under $70. To all on the board...spend what you are comfortable with...enjoy the taste...price doesn't always guarantee quality.

Got the email, held my breath as I paid, can’t wait for it to be delivered.
Most I've spent on a bottle is redbreast 27 and I don't regret it

Thanks for making me feel better for going through the same purchase. I love it as well. And I deleted the Generations email with prejudice. 😂
So happy I picked one up as well!
I know exactly how you feel. when I bought the knob Creek 30th anniversary 18 year, I bought two. That 500 bucks for both. 🙎🏽♂️
I was waiting around for the Russel Reserve 13yr, but the liquor store here in my town did not get it and now I see why.
Si, great content as always!
If i could find this, i'd buy one.
Thank God I’m subscribed because that Motorola Corolla sounds scary AF.
Glad it’s a great bottle. No way I could justify it as a casual consumer
I just saw one of these recently, but they wanted $400. Too rich for my blood, but I’m glad you didn’t waste your money
I had CN F and CN C side by side at a bar a couple of weeks ago. CN F blew it away. Need to find a bottle.
First of all, 9.0 is a rookie score, and you sir, are no rookie. It's either a 8.9 or 9.1.
I finally found a RR single barrel reserve store pick ~ four weeks ago and was blown away.
Even though your description on the pallet of this is very detailed, I can't even imagine how good it is.
wow hoping to grab a bottle. thanks for sharing. cheers
Well, I am glad you got it. Unfortunately for me I had it in the cart and I was in a poor cell service area so by the time I could keep the check out it was gone. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find it somewhere else for retail.😎🥃cheers

Ok, I’ll subscribe. Looking forward to the C923 review.
Nice one, sounds like a made a mistake of trying this next to RR13. I need to try Single Rick again on its own.
Damn I got the email was super close to buying one but I didn’t. Now I kinda wish I did
I got the email too and had the chance to buy it from said website also. I passed this time. Dammit Matt. Dammit.
"like when you put carpet over hardwood but the carpet is made of candy..." is now one of my favorite descriptions ever
End of year video idea. Since this hit 9.0 you should blind everything this year that was 8.0 to 8.5 and then 8.5 and above. Or just do this in general so we can see if your ratings do change.

and once - and you are far from being not involved in that - for Kentucky Owl Batch 9 at friggin 269€, I still cannot believe I pulled the trigger there 😅🤷♂
ROLOS! okay, now I have to look for a pour of this somewhere, since I am not dropping $300 on a bottle...
@@jeremybamgbadenah probably not. The FOMO is just too powerful and all consuming
Damn that sounds enticing. Everyone here in the comments is complaining about the price but I’d dread to see what it would cost if they made it available here in Australia. The Russell’s Reserve is $85 here.
I paid too much for Knob Creek 18 B2...I just know I did at two hundred monopoly monies
USD$340?! that's insane...
Wondering if I got a bad bottle??????
Shared it with 3 friends and nobody was impressed at all. Gonna do a Russel’s blind soon and see where it falls
best of 2023 forsure imo
Me and the fellas actually just tasted the 13th Colony DO and RRSR CNF and I gotta say as good as RRSR is, the 13th was the favorite that night. Cheers Matt Why not active on X?
I can’t wait for that taste off
Round number, rookie score.
Link for the glass?
How does it compare to the Masters Keep 17?
I really enjoyed RR13 at $150 - hard to imagine that this single rickhouse would be twice as good….
I’d take two RR13 over Single Rick any day!
$300 is the most I've ever spent for a bottle of whiskey, Kentucky Owl Batch #10 (which as I recall, is a favorite of yours). How does the KO#10 compare to the Russell's Single Rickhouse? Which would win in a blind taste test? Thanks for all you!
Amazing to me how people complain about the price then pay the price anyway.
I am subscribed! 😅
Please recommend a few online stores I can check out, I'm having a hard time finding stores that will ship to my state. Cheers...
The comment you gave about it being Russell's BTAC makes me think it's worth the cost. I'd love to see you make a video of that side by side tasting at the end of the year between your top rated bottles. The proof on these are too different for a blind realistically, but that's ok we don't need it to be blind.
I bought a 10 year purple top Willett for basically the same price... have you tried one of those?
rolos?!?!?!?!?!?! hey yeah!!!!
Sounds like the sticker shock was worth it.
Nothing worse than dropping 3 bills and being disappointed. Glad it turned out to be an excellent bottle.
500 was my top. Now it sits around. 🤦♂️
Better than 13th colony double???
Tough question Matt, got a guy that is willing to trade me a CNF for a 14 year proprietor...Where would you lean?
Whats the code for free shipping???
Alright maybe a dumb question, but isn’t a single Rick house LESS exclusive than a single barrel? A single barrel would also be a single rickhouse…right
I was lucky to find a few RR13 for ~150 this year. And it’s the best thing I’ve had. Ages range 13-20+ in the blend. There is 0 reason to spend 300 on this bottle.
I still can’t bring myself to pay more than $100 for any bottle of whiskey!
I think some people are just trying to justify the price they paid for it.
Matt if I send you my glencairn glass, can pour me a little to try..🤪🤪heheh
We need a recession 😅
I just picked up a Kentucky Spirit single barrel aged in CNF. I wonder how old KS is and how it compares to the Single Rickhouse CNF. It's about 15 proof lower of course and probably 5 years or so younger if the Single Rickhouse is 13.
did you get anwhere on this. i am wondering the same thing
Isnt Single Rickhouse a blend of 70ish barrels etc? where KS is a straight single barrel thats chill filtered and proofed down?
150 dollars better than RR13
Is the question?
Damnit, I had this in my cart and couldn’t pull the trigger. Can you just tell me that you made all this up and it’s actually terrible?
Around 300 is my limit. The most expensive thing I've bought, not long ago, was a dusty Master's Keep Unforgotten.
A Mustang payment....you got ripped off, as long as people keep paying bourbon prices will keep going UP.... Thanks. What do you think their doing to the juice/ barrels? Corn, Barley, Wheat, and Rye can only be so flavorful. I want a taste, I buy a pour (RARE) And I can drink it...Without crying and afford to buy again.
I think 13 colony exceeds jd12. I think jd 12 is actually average for the price
Glad someone else thinks that I had a pour of JD12 and it was just flat. It wasn't bad but just nothing there for me.
I'll trade you a pour off my bar for a pour of the 13th double oak.
limit is $90

Sorry…I thought it was good but not amazing…I have had older amazing store picks that were similar. Maybe not as good but damn close and for a fraction of the cost
Not a buy for me at 350…pass
I like the RR13 and WT12 101 better
Beware of little branches, they can be a pain in the neck. #TurkeyRocks
My face when I clicked the link and saw $450 for generations and $300 for single rick...priceless. Like eating a way too hot pepper. Or second hand embarrassment at Thanksgiving dinner. Random shooting pain in the gut. All these faces combined. And that's a hard pass
$300 max
