John. Got to tell you something. Because of you and your reviews, I went out and bought me a brand new 2024 CVO Road Glide ST, Black & Red. 🙌🤙👊🏻.
Ohh damn congratulations 🎊
I do some marathon days in flat plains. I often take a complete day off to sit on soft surfaces at a bar or restaurant, drop off laundry at fluff and fold, turn all my riding gear inside out, wipe everything down including bike and helmet, give boots a full day to air out and dry!! Did multiple trips from Baja to Key West and the one I did with determined map monsters was least enjoyable. They were always wanting to do excessive mileage for the sake of mileage and not seeing anything. On my own Tombstone, Circuit of the Americas at Austin, half dozen other spots were much more fun when you are not counting the hours until you can start riding again..stop to smell the roses!! Don't ride tired!!!
Sturgis this year cost just under 5 grand for 8. days. That’s lodging, gas and food. This includes five days before and three days during plus two nights lodging on the road.
I follow the whole trip/video's, can't compare it with go and see Mickey! Nice and You and your buddies made beautiful memories. Ride on!
Just got home Sunday from my 56 day 10,000 mile trip. Camping 19 days at Sturgis,2 days at Red Lodge MT, 5 days at Yellowstone, 7 days at Grand Teton and 7 days at Glacier NP. 1st hotel was at Missoula MT for service at Grizzly HD. After Glacier went over to Pacific Coast down to N.California ,beautiful, down to Tahoe. Went to Vegas for 2 days to visit Brother In-law then to Colorado to ride Rt 560 up from Durango then back to Jersey. Stayed in hotels 11 nights total, stopped for gas 63 times riding a '19 RGU pulling a tent trailer with 500 lbs of gear on it. Was getting around 170 to 180 miles to the tankful. Had a real good time, beautiful sights but glade to be back home.
Thanks for that breakdown, John. That last bit of advice about daily miles really helped. I've done a couple of 1k mile trips, but hope to do one next year around 3k. I'll be taking this into account in planning out the timing.
John who snored the loudest 😂…. I did that one time with my three best friends we shared a room and we just joked about it all day and talking about how one sounded like a motorcycle the whole night blaming one another great time we had so much fun. Thanks for the videos really enjoy them.
Thanks John, very very informative. I’ll be going through the rest of your videos that I haven’t viewed yet. I’m retired and bought a road glide this April and having the time of my life on it.
Wow congratulations that’s awesome
Great video, great advice, and super informative for anyone taking a big trip…two wheels or otherwise.
Awesome video John!! That was definitely the best series of videos for a trip I have ever watched. Hands down amazing!! Great information on the stuff and how much money you should bring. Awesome stuff. Can't wait to see the transformation of Black Jack 🇺🇸🤘🏻💯!! Thank you again for taking us along on your journey and inspiring others to do the same or smaller trip. Keep up the great work brother and always ride safe 🤘🏻💯✌🏻!!
This trip was so inspiring, I’m working hard to get to your level on here. It’s been so awesome to watch your journey.👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Thanks 🤙
Best advice you just gave: "DO NOT RUSH THE TRIP"! I need to get better at that
Awesome vids!
Thx for sharing your. Adventures!
enjoy the Journey Dude!✌
Great videos you do a great job. Thanks
Based on your cost and where you saved sharing rooms with Breakfast kind of worked out to 1 dollar per mile. Back in the 70's I think it cost me about .25 cents / mile. My how times have changed...lol I think if I did a long trip today - I would plan to camp every other day and a hotel every other day. I did do a 4 day trip from Texas to upstate NY on a road Glide about 8 years ago. One trick I learned was I would stop for breakfast and have my gallon jug filled with ice tea - make sure you keep you fluids going... Great review..
Damn, that’s pretty cool that you realized that. $1 per mile
Love it
Best Advice you gave - "Enjoy The Ride".
great summary !!! gas is around 1.60$ / liter here in Quebec , Canada !!!!
Great advice thanks!!!
I get you about the Disney $$$ my niece works at Disney and that's the only way we could swing it. Plane fare only.
Great insight to the cost of your trip mate ps were paying $35 now for petrol to fill up my 05 roadking in australia😎🤙enjoy
great information!!
on the next episode of cyclefanatix...... pillow talk with sandy and John 😂😂😂😂. question man, you said "we" showered, all for manhood security, but HOW secure are ya man? "WE" showered.... getting interesting pal 😂😂😂😂. in all seriousness, nice breakdown, common sense approaches and proper spending for basic needs. good trip brother 🎉.
Great vid! What about tolls? Also, where do you put your ez-pass on your bike?
Yes, I use EZ pass, my tag is underneath my windshield
Real good to know that i can make it happen and not spend crazy money...
Were you concerned about areas where there might not have been cell phone reception? How did you prepare for that if at all? Thank you
Were you satisfied with the performance of the ceramic coating ?
Did you get an oil change?
Yea 8-10 for the wife and I
Lol yea forget the wife and kids!! Go ride with the homies… hahahaha!!
Leave politics out of it. It is not entertaining. In my opinion.
😂😂😂Another liberal who can’t face the reality of failed leadership.
How can you put in thousand mile trip to Sturgis and vack.from east coast to west coast and bavk is only 6 thousand miles.
Go back and look at my videos, you’ll see
We just didn’t go straight to Sturgis and back
Took us a few days to realize we need to shorten down the daily mileage. Once we did that the days became enjoyable and memorable! Make sure you team up with a buddy that doesn’t steal your blanket at night ..😂

My biggest challenge to alot of my bike road trips is finding friends to go, between finances, work, problems with someone's bike,ect.. it just all has to click. I dont mind riding solo but always good to have good company.
Yes definitely 💯
All my friends have sport bike
Another tip folks - Make sure you notify you Bank that you will be on the road so your credit card doesn't get shut down on you. No joke when it happens.
Great tip!
Great advise on motorcycle touring. I've traveled the exact same way for close to 30 years. Very accurate cost analysis. The most expensive trip was my 1st Sturgis rally in '13. 14 days on the road 6 days in Sturgis and 6200 miles. $5300. Did it ghe 2nd time in '20, rented a house for 6 days in Leed, next town over from Deadwood. $2600. My lomgest trip was in '07. To Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, did all the major national parks. 7300 miles, cost $5100. 400 to 500 miles a day is decent, then I like to throw in a 3 to 350 mile day every 4 days or so. My crew usually try to stop every half tank. Great trip brother. Thanks for taking us along. Bring on the upgrades. I'm rootin fer ya!
The group of friends I ride with on long hauls 2k plus miles do the same thing stop at 1/2 a tank to stretch makes a big difference at the end of the day and like a previous post stated don’t feel like you have to rush makes the trip way more enjoyable when you take your time and soak up the experience
All I did was milwaukee homecoming and went to poppy's biker bar and illinois afterwards. Rode around alot down there and was gone for 10 days. Stayed in the knick in milwaukee and two other nicer hotels else where. Booze food rooms fuel concerts....5k
We try to set our mileage in the 2-300 range simply for the fact we can stop and see something if it hits our fancy .
Looks like you lost some weight brother
Nah still 210
No reason why you can’t crash in one room with your boys! I’d do the same thing save the cash🤑
👊👊👍
Rule 1: No one talks about sharing a room.. LOL, Just kidding. WTFC what anyone else thinks. When your on the trip, you are with your friends. No one else matters....
Did you pre book hotels or just check places when ready to call it a day?
I pre-booked hotels all the way up until Milwaukee and then it was just basically find whatever we can get
Just did a 6,000 mile trip, except for two Mom And Pop motels at 70 bucks a night, ( ones I use on all my trips through Utah ) I stayed BEST westerns, Hamptons AND COMFORT INNS. Food free in the A.M a snack mid day, Dinner 40 bucks with tip. Gas, 4.00 bucks a Gallon except the Pacific cost, 6.00 plus a lib area rip off. Tires always new at takeoff, wear them out in the winter riding the desert states. Total cost for three weeks solo 2,600 bucks. One oil change. No bike troubles no cops, freeway and side roads all the way, stop and enjoy the areas you are in, Utah, Colorado, S.Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Oregan, and the land of fruits and nuts California, and back to Pahrump Nevada. Note: I carried a self defense weapon the complete trip. I am 75 and still enjoy the two wheel rides on my 2016 Limited 42 miles per gallon average, she getting old but still keeps on ticking, limited on up grades since I am limited on funds, life goes on. Semper Fi
Thanks for sharing
Great advise John, took two guys that never road more than 150 a day on a 2600 mile trip. We did a bunch of 200 and 300 mile warm up rides the two months prior to the trip. Made a huge difference for those guys when we were doing 400 and 500 mile days and having your bike and yourself in road shape makes a massive difference
I just went from St. Paul MN threw South Dakota Wyoming Nebraska Colorado Arizona New Mexico Kansas iowa. We went to Ames monument, pikes peak, south rim Grand Canyon , tombstone, carhenge, four corners, red rocks dinosaur ridge and everything else we wanted to stop at. 4000 miles in 10 days and all 85-120$ hotels no issues they were clean and friendly not all were in great neighborhoods though
Glad you had a great trip John. It has been fun watching everything and experience. I’m 3/4 through this video, one thing I think you need to include is the cost of a 3 hole change on the bike. Even though you might do it yourself, I think it is important to include in your overall cost. Maintenance is king on any trip before and after. Can you give me your unfiltered thoughts on the Saddleman Seat. I am three back surgeries in. I am considering going to the Saddleman Road Sofa with a back rest for my 22 Road Glide Special. Thank you for the national parks information for veterans. I am 11 year Army Veteran I am going to look into that today. God Bless You Brother. Mad respect for you and the integrity and morales you represent.
Hey John, first wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your videos I’ve watched everyone of them from the beginning. You’re an inspiration. I appreciate you. In one of your recent videos. You said you were gonna do some rides close to home. I have a couple of suggestions for you not too far from Bergen County up in Orange County, New York. Definitely go to the motorcyclepedia museum in Newburgh, New York. Fantastic. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed after that, you can do lunch down on the river at Billy Joes Ribworks also in Newburgh, New York another great spot you may want to try is brotherhood winery in Washingtonville, New York. It is America’s oldest winery because they were able to produce wine during prohibition because it was for the church also on top of Bear Mountain is Perkins Memorial Drive Great view great ride enjoy brother.
This was such a great video series! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I have learned a lot from you that I have been able to apply to my own trips. You are absolutely right…a trip on a motorcycle beats Disney World any day of the week! Keep on riding! 😎
You are so welcome!
Make sure your room mates bring their prescription Beano(The pulled-pork sandwiches with baked beans are serious offenders). I've done it but the thing about the roomies is the smells and sometimes and most always for me is the snoring!. Night after night of listening to a lumberjack sawing logs is worse than a 140 Db pipe for 10 hours. IMO, sleep is the most valuable thing. If it costs a little more, it is generally worth it. Also after riding in heavy rain, everyone has stuff that needs drying out and maybe even laundry to do. Maybe that night, I'd sleep on my own.
I went to Disney world the year it opened. Had such a good time I didn’t go back for 18 years. My wife made me go! Being 76 and riding a TriGlide I now carry a heating pad on trips😂😂😂
Did you guys take turns on who had to share a bed at night ?
Yeah, just to be fair
Sooooo well said, Big John. Just getting caught up on your videos! I’ve done the long rides, point to point to point, 500+ each day and I bout ruined my buddies who were along for the trips. These big back packers on thru-hikes where they cover a couple thousands miles on foot, take “Zero Days”, meaning they find a stop and just chill an xtra day or two before they get back out on the trail; could be incorporated into our bike travels too. You nailed the money thing, that’s how I’ve traveled too. Also guys should sign up for IHG, Hilton Honors so to grab points with each stay and get a free room down the road. So bro, how many of the Lower 48 States have you now ridden thru??? That’s a great milestone too, to have ridden thru all Lower 48 at some point!
Thanks, brother. I appreciate that, I have ridden through 40 lower states, eight more to go to check it off
@@CYCLEFANATIX Go get it!!! Love that!! 🇺🇸💪👊❤
“If you’re okay with your manhood” 😂 love it. I’m the same way. I’ll save money anyway I can. As long as it’s nice
Pretty accurate compared to what I have done two. Budget $200/night lodging, 40 mpg average, and $100/ day food (higher if the wife is along), $500 misc. Then add $500 because shit happens.
I've never done a trip that long but I've done a few in the 1k range. I maybe nuts but besides scenery, I remember the smells. It might be pines, swamps, flowers or a rotting dead animal(those have a distinct smell you don't forget) or whatever else, but the smells stand out in my mind. You don't smell many of those things when travelling in a cage.
Well that explains it.... I can't afford to travel as usual.
Money well spent, worth every cent. Thanks for sharing your trip .
I’d be doing the same stuff. Take that cost divide by 2 or 3 other people is a no brainer. Huge cost savings.
Just finished a 4500 mile 18 day trip out that way. Your advice is spot on, especially 'take the time to enjoy the trip' part.
Great wrap-up to the 8,000-mile trip series. Well done as always!
Great job. I have traveled the country coast to coast over the last 30 years on my HD. Always stayed at mid level hotel great suggestion especially with free breakfast . One tip for the viewers we would have breakfast then grab some fruit and snacks from the Buffet for that mid day snack now need to buy lunch hotels are fine with it. Thanks again great tips . And you have only touched the tip of the iceberg on what’s to see in the WEST
Headed out next weekend on a 15 state, 7000 mile, 25 day coast to coast ride with a buddy.
Your advice will definitely help allot.
Awesome videos. Thank you for sharing. Exo Lent information, tip's, advice. Only problem with sharing a bed. I sleep like a fish out of water. Flopping around and around. Tempurpedic mattress helps my wife deal with that.
HAHAHA. Just off the title...this is what we REALLY want to know!! LOLZ. I can already see you and Sandy spooning away for 3 weeks... 😛. HAHAHAHAHA. My biggest shock when I got out of the military is people refusing to share a room....I lived on a tank or in a humvee literally for years with other dudes.....shocking that people will spend 250 bucks more just to not hear me snore...(well maybe not too surprising..LOL)
👊
Thank you guys very much for sharing that wonderful trip with all of us. Beautiful places where you guys went.
No chatchskies for u ! One month, great vid John the whole time watching your vids from trip I kept wondering what it cost, figuring prices in my head, glad u did this vid, smart way to maximize your trip ,splitting it up,enjoyed the camaraderie and views of trip, thanks John
Another pro tip is to keep your cash inside of a clear tube and stash it inside of your gas tank just like in Easy Rider.
This is awesome information. My husband and I have done 2-1500 mile bike trips down the Washington, Oregon and Northern California coastline.
The first time wiped us out because we planned two of our hotel stays too far apart from each other. We couldn't enjoy anything along the way for any length of time. Plus the cities and changing speed limits. Geesh!!!
So our second time, we put a hotel between the two previous. We were more rested, got to see more sites and were more relaxed at the end of the trip.
Both trips were 7 days each.
Oh, and most importantly, both trips created the most epic memories of all!!!
Thanks for all of your tips and your journeys. By the way, are you subscribed to my channel as well?
Ride safe!
Ride fun!!
A great review John. Totally agree about not pushing the daily mile limits. I think 400 is perfect, as you said "take your time and enjoy ". USA is a big country just like over here in Australia ✌
Nice breakdown of costs
Great information and great advice about long distance bike trips. I've done a few myself. I truly enjoyed watching this series of videos. I live in the PNW so I've done the OR and CA coasts a couple times.
Just purchased a saddlemen road sofa as a touring option to my step up. Waiting to hear your review on the seat. Great content as usual
That’s about what my wife and I spend on our summer scooter trips. Back in the day when I was single my vacations in sturgis I only had 200.00 bucks in my pockets and made it home with a dime left. This was in 81 and 82. Camping in city park was dirt cheap then. Or it could have been 80/81 I’m old my memory is shot. Lol.
Real reasonable ,glad you and the boys are safely home
I use a Marriott Bonvoy credit card throughout the year so I can rack up enough points to pay for most nights on my three week trip every summer.
Great ideas for the trip..i agree for my trip to Sturgis pre rally..i plan on 350-400 miles a day..take your time and take it in...Great video and insight..Thanks
Good recap of the cost. Just curious, did you change the oil in your HD during the trip?
Yes in Ohio
It’s been great watching your coast to coast videos John.
There’s nothing better than long distance touring, last summer we rode 14,600 kms/9,072 miles on my 19 FLTRU over 7 1/2 weeks two up with the wife. What an amazing experience we had riding through 8 States and 9 Provinces from Vancouver, BC to Halifax, Nova Scotia plus riding down to Sturgis and had to stop at the Harley Davidson museum in Milwaukee. Bucket list trip for us, the sweet spot for us was 350 to 400 miles per day which gave us time to really enjoy the beautiful sights and scenery without just looking at pavement all day. At 67 yrs old it’s harder to put down the big miles anymore but who cares I’m retired.
Keep up the great HD content and ride videos, from one of your Canadian fans 😎
Thank you 😊
My wife and I travel with other couples on trips. Could be an overnighter or could be 3 week, 14 state, 6200 miles like last summer. Motels are the budget buster. On our trip last summer there were 3 couples on 3 bikes. Every 3rd night each couple got a room by themselves. My wife and I paid for all the rooms as we went along, then added it up and divided by 3 and the other couples scratched us a check at the end of the trip. We stayed at clean, sometimes older motels and our cost was $110/night per couple. 2 rooms for 3 couples every night, except a 4 night stint in Keystone, SD, where we found a room with enough beds for everyone - big money saver. Saw 109 in Moab, 42 and light rain on Beartooth. Saving up time and money to do another one in a year or 2. Very hard to get people to commit to trips like this. PS - I'm 64 and the wife is 59.
Even though that's still a lot of money, I actually would have expected even more. And what you shouldn't forget is that it is a experience of a lifetime and for that it's worth every damn cent. It was also great to come with you on the trip and see so many wonderful things. Thank you very much for that and I'm excited to see what happens next.
Sweet trip !!! I was blessed to take a month with a buddy 9000 miles from Ohio to California up the coast to Washington and back. Seen some spectacular places and went to 19 states ,Zion,Yosemite ,Grand Canyon and many more parks. We camped and did all our own cooking and I spent 2500 bucks and had the best month of my life . I wouldn't change a thing !!!
Great content, good gauge to go with. When I retire, cross country trip is on the list. Glad you guys made it safely!!
Let’s see what you did to that sled mannnn!!!
Haha 👊👊
Great advice, hope we can meet up next year and ride together. Tyler and I would enjoy that. We are going to Bikers, Blues, & Barbecue in Arkansas this weekend. Easy trip compared to our trip to Milwaukee. Tyler got all he’s new equipment for his TH-cam recording. We’ll be hollering at you soon.
Sounds great!
Great video. Thank you for the cost analysis. Great advice on all points.
Thanks Bro for the round up on your trip. I loved all your episodes.
Have you looked into some of the hotel rewards programs to help on the hotel cost?
Yes 👍
Awesome John great advice
Thank you glad you all are safe at home
Hey John... another excellent video and recap of your awesome trip!!! You have given such excellent advice to people wanting to do something like this! Like everyone else... I'll be eagerly awaiting your next videos! John...
Thanks 🙏
Great breakdown. Sounds like you guys did your planning right. Thanks for sharing your experience and travels. 🇺🇸
Thanks for watching!
DId an 11 day roadtrip to San Francisco and back from Victoria in early summer - did exactly what you recommended in your video. Great advice - not to rush it, though we did because of work commitments. Love your content John and btw - Black Jack looks amazing with all the mods you did. I am jealous.
God bless you! Can’t t wait for the new videos!!!
I honestly don’t mind staying in 60-80 hotel rooms while on a motorcycle trip. ( for the most part) I may be in the hotel for 7-8 hours total, so why pay for more?
If I travel for work or non motorcycle I stay in a bit higher level hotel.
Great breakdown sir, looking forward to seeing the videos now.
If somebody ain't doing at least 700 miles a day and spend a bunch of money for Sturgis you aint no biker. Pro biker tip. Quit spending money on hotels. Sleep on side of the road or in the woods for free like a real biker. Not a rub. Sorry to burst yall bubble.
Always enjoy watching John ride safe and enjoy
Awesome!
Glad you could recover the early footage of your trip
Spot on advise! Enjoy the ride and take it all in!
hammock camping at state parks and even rest stops. free or under $30/night. pack a tent and live cheap.
Salute my brother. Was great meeting you in Milwaukee
Great advice! And thanks for posting your adventure!
You bet!
