    The first song me (and many others) heard from Band Maid! This was also the song that helped them grow in popularity and is also their 1st music video they recorded.
    This Live version sounds a bit heavier, and fuller sound, really nice! Back then Miku didn't knew how to play guitar yet and look at her now!
    Always very nice to hear your insight and thoughts! Great paint skills! 😀
    You mentioned Carlos Santana, he is Kanami's favorite guitarist and a big inspiration!
    Another great breakdown on the instrumentation, really appreciate that! Thank you!

    This is Band-Maid revisiting an old song they haven't played in many years. Band-Maid will always remind you of other bands as they are playing real Rock (in yer face, musically brilliant and with a classic 70's and 80's Rock sound). They remind me of many Rock bands I saw in the 70's, like Man, Free, Thin Lizzy, Budgie and even 1973 era Judas Priest. Another great and informative reaction. I've yet to find a bad song from Band-Maid.

    Thanks for another compelling lesson. I love how you whipped out a 5-string and so quickly replicated MISA's mastery of it. You mentioned hearing influences from the past. I grew up attending big theatrical rock concerts in the 1970's, and to me, Band Maid is almost a throwback to my era, which is why I dig it.

    Thrill is already an old song for them - it take us back to their second mini album, back when they weren't allowed by their producers to release their own songs. It's only on the next mini album that one of their compositions would get the green light ("Alone" ) and it was such a success that they kept on composing/writing their material from that (four full albums!). So Thrill ain't composed by them - but its success show them the way: hard rock with a (many actually) twist. They started to play it live again quite recently and this online rendition is more "muscular" than the original one, thx to the "real" second guitarist that Miku became since their beginnings.

    • @JbfMusicGuitar
      @JbfMusicGuitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Cheers for that info! It's pretty cool that they have the older songs in their set- I can imagine if they wanted to write their own stuff, there might have been a bad vibe associated with the first batches of songs, good to know they're happy to play them. Cool to know that this version is beefed up from the original a bit as well!

    So, several comments have explained this a bit, but I'll add a bit more. This is the first song that actually got traction for Band Maid. Originally Miku Kobato was going to be the lead vocalist of the group, but they had realized she didn't have the complete sounds they needed on vocals so Saiki was hired as lead vocalist. That's when Miku decided to learn guitar to play rhythm parts. Kaname is actually Miku's guitar teacher, and had said that early on it was difficult for Miku to play while singing, hence the arrangement not having a rhythm part during Miku's verse.
    As had been noted, this was a song that was written for the band. Early on their label was pushing the "idol" side of the group more than their musicianship. But, all of the members of the band are educated musicians, and this comes out in their arrangements, and is why you find things like the Dorian mode working it's way into what others might have played as a straight Pentatonic solo. One of the things I hadn't noticed until you played it slowly is that use of Dorian sounds like it was an homage to Peter Frampton... It's almost a direct quote.

    • @JbfMusicGuitar
      @JbfMusicGuitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ahh, I was wondering why they shared the vocals so much in this song! Nice call on the Frampton quote 🎸🎶

      Miku prior to Band-Maid was in a three girl Idol group that sang and danced. There are YT videos of this group. She was more or less the lead vocalist and very good but this Idol group sang typical J Pop fare where her vocals shined but not powerful enough for the harder rock.

      @minchomania 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Couple things, Saiki was brought in and they were going to have twin lead vocals and the idea for Miku to play guitar was not brought up right when Saiki joined but a little later. Also in a traditional sense when you say educated musicians, only Misa/Akane actually went to school for music. Kanami also know her stuff from learning piano from an early age and doing band in high school, but I am not sure you could call that a formal music education.

    Great Pixies reference. As you've noticed in the comments Band-Maid has fans, speaking for myself, that have seen live shows from artists as headliners on individual tours, from artists like Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Jefferson Starship/Airplane, Joan Jett, Van Halen, Hüsker Dü, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthax, Slayer, Pantera and every other non-rock artist of every genre you can imagine like Miles Davis, Shawn Phillips, Santana, Abba and the Village People. So yes, The Pixes live were amazing and I do hear it in Band-Maid, and Skid Row and all the other artists you referenced, which is why we love them. They bring a great contemporary take on rock, blues, metal, punk, punk-pop, pop and so many more. They will be glorious, they only just begun. When they rebook Budokan, during open travel, it'll be their coming out/debutante debut to the World. The original ticket sales for the event were so heavily international that holding the event would have defeated the purpose.
    So, keep going you just started with their 1st International viral classic, and ride gets so much more interesting from here as a baseline.

    “Thrill” was their 1st video released and was kinda their hit song that they’ve played live probably more than any other song. That said, this live version is a bit subdued, but very well played. On your own, you should watch the original video. 5 years ago, I fortunately came across Thrill and I’ve loved Band Maid ever since. I like that it’s a simpler, more direct hard rock song and Thrill holds a lot of sentimental value for me.

    Thrill was their first TH-cam hit video , from 2014. Miku didn't play back then but soon learned how to play with Kanami as her instructor. Now she is a fine player and has her a signature Zemaitis guitar called the "Floppy Pigeon". Kanami channels Eddie Van Halen and Carlos Santana, she's a big fan of both. The only thing missing on this tune is the "scrape" at the end, much needed by Maidiacs.........watch the original. Love the flat black on your bass. BTW- Band Maid dropped a new video the other day "No God" LIVE online stream concert they did in February, since the globalists canceled their Budokan concert.

Band Maid is one of the few bands where I look for the live recordings first. Also, IIRC this is from back when they had their first record conflict and were being stifled by poor management. As a result, they hadn't worked this song for quite a while. Due to copywrite issues, ththere countries that they couldn't play this in without paying royalties.
