  • The test results showed that she had feline leukemia.
When kittens are exposed to feline leukemia, their life expectancy is three years at most.
Feline leukemia is a disease that can never be cured.
It's spreads easily., we were told to quarantine the older cats (Koyu, Mugi, and Hama) until their vaccinations were completed.
She will have to be quarantined until the older cats (Koyu, Mugi,Hama) have been vaccinated.
It can also be transmitted through saliva,so if you touch her and then touch the three cats, you should also wash your hands and disinfect just in case.
Preventing seeding for Koyu Mugi Hama
    wait 3 weeks
    Preventing seeding again
    wait 3 more weeks
    and they can live together!
Maybe different doctors have different opinions, or maybe it depends on the country you live in.
Therefore, this video is for reference only, and you should follow the instructions of your vet.
I was worried, so I asked two doctors for their opinions, and they both had the same opinion.
There may be pros and cons, but I will follow their opinion.
I don't have any available rooms, so I'll start to build new house for her to stay in for about six weeks!

My first cat was originally a stray and had feline leukemia. I had her for almost exactly three years. She taught me that love doesn't correlate with time. Sometimes you can be with someone for 10 years and not feel a true connection. Sometimes you can be with someone for only a few years and love them with your entire soul. She opened my heart up to adopting older cats because in the end, it's about the connection you have with them and not contingent on how young or old they are.

I had the same experience with my FeLV+ cats I rescued. My local shelter euthanizes positive cats on sight, so I couldn’t bring them there. I have fostered many animals for the shelter, to give them more time. When I have FeLV+ cats, they are quarantined from foster cats & kittens. My own healthy cats are vaccinated, and none have contracted it, or FIV, in 26 years of living with positive cats. FIV has no current vaccine, so they just have to be spayed/neutered, and introduced slowly so they don’t fight aggressively. Play fighting is ok.

My cat was positive and lived well past 3 yrs. We feed him an organic diet. He was 10-12 yrs when he passed. He was such a sweet tabby boy named MoeMoe.

It shows you’re an amazing human being . That’s how every human should be . All animals deserve a chance to to be loved regardless
Love is universal . What happens is that some people are too choosy and therefore , complicate things

What a lovely little kitten. I’m glad you have decided to keep her. We have had several cats that were positive for FeLV and they can live much longer than that, especially with good care and are kept in good health. (We have one who has to have her teeth removed due to complications from FeLV) and she’s 9. It is important to understand that FeLV is an autoimmune disease, so if they get sick, that is what will cause problems. Good luck with this little one.

Hi! So glad to see you decided to keep her (: I wanted to let you know that (from the USA) I had a kitten who was diagnosed with FeLV three days after we adopted him. We did the emergency treatment and my little fighter lived for 14 years. He had neurological deficits afterwards so he always walked funny and was constantly sneezing and drooling, but he was the best companion I could've ever asked for. I hope you have a similar time with your lil gal

I had a kitten who died of feline leukemia at the young age of seven months. She was one of the first cats I ever owned, so there was a lot I didn’t know.. I finally had her euthanized when she lost the ability to use her back legs and she had no control of her bowels. I held her for a while and when I gave her back to the vet he said, “she looks like an angel“. It’s been about five years now, and I still have her ashes and the pink mouse that she always played with.

My cats were and are vaccinated. One time in the past we decided to adopt a young cat who had feline leukemia. He was one of the sweetest cat we ever had. He and the others had regular check ups at my aunt who is a vet and guess what? My cats lived happily together, and he was 12 (!!!) years old when we finally had to put him down (when he had a brain hemmorhage, most probably a congenital blood vessel condition in the brain that remained undetected) because he was in pain. So definitely not because of the FeLv. FeLv is a difficoult disease and there are severily different outcomes, so don't give up and with regular check at your vet (which I'm sure you would do anyway) you can keep her in good condition! With love and will there is always possibility, not just hope! Lots of love from Germany

Please test her again when she 6 months old as many times these tests come out false positive. I know I have worked in animal rescue for over 8 years and we've seen many kittens come in and they test positive and then when they're 6 months old they're tested again and they are negative.

Those may not be "false positives". A significant amount of cats can clear the virus before it makes it's way to the bone marrow. When this happens the cat is cured and likely has future immunity. I've heard that as many as 40-50% of cats may be able to do this. So, yes, it's always recommended to have follow up tests.

He’s four, and to my knowledge hasn’t had contact with other cats since he was a kitten. I will be trying to help him along with the dietary support to try and help him have a full life.

I was given 3 3 week old kittens and 1 tested positive for it. I had to quarantine her from her brothers and my other cats until a few weeks later and another test. It same back negative. I felt so bad she lived alone except when
I could go visit her. She had lots of toys but kittens want a body.

      thank you for watching.
i heard from comment and my pet doctor agree it,when kitten was positive, after 6-8month later, sometimes it become negative.
in my case unfortunatly still positive.
so when your cat become 6-8 month old ,ow about test again?
Opinions vary from country to country and from doctor to doctor, but the doctor I go to and the doctor at the other hospital have told me that FeLV kittens and other cats can live together as long as the other cats are vaccinated once a year against FeLV.
They say that 99% of the time the other cat will not get FeLV.
That's why we are living together now.
I don't know if this is true, but since I was told the same thing at two different hospitals, I decided to believe it.

You did the right thing. Some cats can clear the virus. If the cats immune system can clear the virus before it makes it to the bone marrow, then the cat is cured and probably will be immune from then on. That's probably what happened with your kitty.

My 5 month old kitten has been diagnosed as well and I’m deeply saddened.... So you didn’t have cat have any vaccinations for other viruses? Once a cat is diagnosed with leukemia is it not necessary to give then any other vaccines?

    • @DIYCATVILLAGE

      oh very sorry for that.
but there are comment from animal doctor.
she said you should make sure again when she become 6month old.
      sometimes FeLV is disappear.
i ask my doctor same question, she also said yes it will happpen sometimes.
but its better to check when she become 8 month old.
      so i will check again.
if your cat is 5 month, how about to check when she/he will be 8 month.
she already vaccines 2 times.i just not take video.

With FeLV often times we are talking about kittens and they are often born with the virus, especially if their mother was a stray or feral cat. So, there may have been no chance of vaccination. Also the FeLV vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing the disease. So, even a vaccinated cat can catch it. As for vaccinating FelV or FIV positive cats, that's a bit controversial. There are mixed feelings on it and conflicting advice. Since these virus "play with the immune system", the immune system of these cats can respond quite differently to a vaccine than a normal healthy cat. And it can go 2 different ways. It can mean that the immune over reacts in certain ways and causes autoimmune problems, or it can mean that the immune system will not react to the vaccine and therefore the vaccine is useless and ineffective.

. I had a cat with feline aids once. The cat becomes wasted, and it shortens its life.
