Believe me or not, I had the rare opportunity to listen to Mr. Zuckerman practice his, (as he put it, “Fiddle”) every morning at 6am when I worked for him in Montauk, Long Island. I’d get up at 5:30am and sit by the pool house waiting for him to come outside and practice. It was Amazing. This was almost 20 years ago. I felt like I was listening to an Angel play. One of the reasons he is so good at what he does is because he works at it daily. I knew it was a privilege and I would soak it up. He would make his “Fiddle” create the most Beautiful Sounds I’ve ever heard. He is an awesomely talented man. I’m glad to see he is well and still sharing his Talent with the World.
@@jeanparke9373 well, I had the pleasure of hearing him practicing scales as well as pieces of music. I’m not well versed in classical music, but, I can tell you that what I did hear Pincius play was magical. Sometimes I’d get up early and sit behind the pool house and listen to him play for hours at a time. He’s so good because he really practiced his craft. I even had the pleasure of holding his 2 million dollar Stradivarius in my hands. I was asked to take it to a shop on 7th Avenue in NYC to be placed in a safe and the night before, I took the violin out of the case, I picked up the Bow and just before I put bow to string, I realized that if I broke a string or anything stupid, I couldn’t afford to pay for it, so, I thought better of it and put the instrument back in its case, 😂🤣😂🤣. Yeah, those were some fun times. Be well.
Love that rich, delicious Zukerman sound. His mastery of the bow is wonderful. He makes it look so easy, but it took years of hard work and dedication to play like this. Thank you for sharing this video!
This very moving performance, and the unique sound takes me back to lessons with my dear teacher, Victor Hickman, who loved these shorter romantic pieces (and excelled in light music and jazz, among other things). He also had a sound which was deeply expressive and entirely personal. He passed away recently and is greatly missed.
Mr Brey, in the 90's I saw a video of yourself playing the Schubert Quintet, with Leslie Parnas, Walter Trampler and Ida Kavafian... Is it possible? Or was it in a dream? Wonderful rendition indeed, it would be great to see it in TH-cam!
@@adrianfelizia Yes, you're right. That was a concert concurrently celebrating Charles Wadsworth's 60th birthday and the Chamber Music Society's 20th. Must have been 1989. Somewhere on a dusty shelf I have an old video cassette of that program.
@@cbrey that must be one of the two or three greatests existing versions of that work, my absolute admiration for those great artists, of course including yourself. Thanks for answering!
@@warmyferrari9910 You're right. The poor guy only managed to record with Deutsche Grammophon and Philipps (which was also a big label in his times). You might argue concerning style. You also might argue concerning the upbow on important beats (which makes the violin sound much lighter). But writing in you're way about a musician belonging for decades to the top league of violin players doesn't seem to be really serious. His bow technique is really outstanding, at least if you like the Galamian principles (which work to my taste very well!) and so is his sound production. Do you have any idea how much work and life long discipline that requires? I hope, that you will show a little bit more respect towards people and that you try to write proper sentences.
Merci Pinchas. Et que le violon règne aussi longtemps. 🙏
There is not a violinist alive who does not envy Zukerman's bow arm. Now in his 70s, Zukerman has recently achieved new excellence in relatively simpler and more intimate repertoire, rendered with real meditative depth and feeling. It happens to fit him like a glove.

Always a great pleasure to listen to Pinchas Zukerman. Beautiful music making.
I heard him for the first time in the 60's in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Since then I have been a fan and the enthusiasm has never diminished.

One of the most natural string talents ever, and the best mastery of bow distribution, sound production and phrasing. Perfection.
I don't think anyone's bow arm or sound production can compare with Heifetz. Heifetz also had a much more varied vibrato.

Was the violin played made by Guy Harrison?
Dani Olmo on piano?

I wonder what violin is he playing now? Doesn't look like the Dushkin... Is it?
Yeah still the Dushkin.
It's only appropriate to play a violin piece by Dushkin (which this is) on a Dushkin fiddle.
Hogy lehet, hogy ez a csodálatos előadás valakinek nem tetszik?

This piece is really by the violinist Samuel Dushkin (1891-1976). Von Paradis was a contemporary of Mozart and her music sounds nothing like this.
Yes, and he is playing it on the Dushkin Strad...
