I'm a piano teacher and accompany violin pupils, I can't wait to play this, also I have to say your playing brought tears and very emotional reaction. Bravissimo!!
Liebe Katerina!
Beautiful Performance! Good bowing and good vibrato. I can see player's hearts through performance. I love Sicilienne rhythms as like her performance. Thanks
Such a beautiful piece of music, and played with such sensitivity and feeling. And yes, nuanced in expression of the musical details and phrasing. Really really nice performance.
I'm told this composer's works are not so well known compared to Mozart, Hayden and all the boys. Is this simply because she's a woman? What wonderful music, what a sin to pass it over because of bias.
That's quite possible. I had the privilege of studying pieces by women composers throughout college and always thought this to myself. Why weren't they famous? A lot of the pieces by women were very unconventional and "brave" for the lack of a better term. I can't help but think that if a man would've written such a piece, they would be considered "ahead of their time" or "unconcerned with the canon" whereas the women composers were simply seen as people who didn't understand the canon or couldn't keep up with the times. Kind of sad to think about, but I have recently seen a terrific amount of woman representation in western music and that's awesome. (My experience is mainly in Solo piano, concert band, and handbell choir, I can't speak much for strings and orchestra).
Very likely! Very few woman composers from that time are known. Clara Schumann is known but that too largely coz she was Robert Schumann’s wife. Felix Mendelssohn’s sister was known to be a good musician but she hardly enjoys the repute that he does.
This is a really beautiful piece of music. A real shame it became famous (or infamous) for the wrong reasons, but that doesn't take away from the music's beauty. Oh, and the performance is wonderful as well!
Roma's strings? Can't get Gitlis out of my head when I listen to this..Damn Really wonderful and heartfelt playing with taste , makes a full circle structurally!! Ελπίζω να περνάτε καλά:)
Hey Alex, thank you for your compliments! I also think of Gitlis when I hear that 😂 This guy is just unique! Jacques Thibaud also has a great recording of this piece for my taste... and yes! Roma’s strings definitely contribute to the sound colours! Hope you are doing well. Πολλούς χαιρετισμούς :)
@@KaterinaChatzinikolau Amazing! I love your recording. And Thibaud and Gitlis have been my favorites for years as well. Never thought I'd hear of someone else with same preference. Love your portemento; what a rich interpretation; just wonderful. THANK YOU
@@alanwittert2169 Thank you for appreciating my interpretation, Alan! A good comment says much about a video but even as much about the person who commented! You know exactly what you are speaking about :)
I love everything about this! Your dresses, the location, and of course your exquisite violin playing. I’m learning this piece and I’m trying to figure out the shifting. How long have you been playing and how long did it take you to learn this piece in particular?
Thank you so much for your appreciation! I learned the Sicilienne the first time when I was a child. To learn the notes it didn’t take me much time but in order to find the right sound colours and to create the right phrasing it is a never-ending work. The shiftings at the right places, the fingerings and the bow control are key elements for mastering especially a slow piece. I hope the video inspired you to play this piece, too :)
@@KaterinaChatzinikolau Thank you for your reply. You definitely inspired me. I am learning by watching your fingerings and Ivry’s and Pinchas Zukerman. It’s nice you have been learning since you were a child. I began as an adult and I absolutely love violin!
That‘s great that you learn violin as an adult! The violin is the instrument closest to the human voice and touches the soul. I wish you a lot of success and fun when learning this piece 😊
Maria Theresia von Paradis did not compose this piece of music whose melody and harmony are clearly not from a person who was born in 1759 and died in 1824. It is well known that it is a fake created some time in the 20th Century by Samuel Douchkine (1891-1976) who claimed to have discovered it and who was inspired by a theme from the violin sonata (opus 10 no. 1) by Carl Maria von Weber. Of course this has nothing to do with the beautiful rendition of Katerina Chatzinikolau. Thank you for sharing.

The perfect amount of vibrato! Beautiful work, Katerina!
Beautiful discovering for me.
A beautiful piece, a heartfelt interpretation and a beautifully sounding violon, nicely echoed by the room it's played in. Wonderful!
Very impressive composition, ahead of it's time!
And a truly wonderful performance - THANK YOU!
Many versions on TH-cam. This is indeed a very nuanced one. nice!
That vibrato is so open, so sorrowful, so... Beautiful

If I practice another 20 years I might reach your level of vibrato, but I will not be able to afford a violin as good as yours.
is that violin or viola?
violino, mas eu também achei que era uma viola
She didn't write this piece but it's beautiful nonetheless.
probably NOT by Paradis (seems to be an hoax)
Soo beautiful!! I love the arrangement in the beginning and your dresses! I could listen to this all day
