  • Footage from Land, Air & Sea of the destruction of Hurricane Michael.
    Hurricane Michael was the third-most intense Atlantic hurricane to make landfall in the United States in terms of pressure, behind the 1935 Labor Day hurricane and Hurricane Camille of 1969. It was also the strongest storm in terms of maximum sustained wind speed to strike the contiguous United States since Andrew in 1992. In addition, it was the strongest storm on record in the Florida Panhandle, and was the fourth-strongest landfalling hurricane in the contiguous United States, in terms of wind speed. -Wikipedia.org

    • @Vector_Ze
      @Vector_Ze 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@markpalavosvrahotes5575 Exactly. All you have to do is drive from Callaway westward and the difference is obvious within a few miles. The center of the storm crossed the coast between TAFB and Mexico Beach, headed NNE. It crossed the eastern communities, directly across from TAFB.
      Make no mistake, Panama City got the worst storm in a lifetime! But, those few miles removed from the heart of the storm made a world of difference.
      Panama City Beach (not the center of population), which got the most media coverage, got off almost scott free.

      @@markpalavosvrahotes5575 I dont know. Me and my GF lived off 15th Street near clay Ave and we experienced psychotic winds. We lived in a brick building with a metal roof and still the roof was ripped off over the kitchen and dining area. When I came from the back of the house to check out the damage I was stunned to see massive hole over our dining room table. You can see straight out to sky. Every tree in the area was leveled too. I never saw anything like it. Panama City Beach is what got spared the 5 winds.

      @@texasclass Of course the winds were psychotic. It does not take Cat 5 winds to do what you said. Another thing is not everyone in those locations I mentioned saw it either more Tyndall Airforce Base and Mexico Beach and within a mile or two of the water. Im just stating the facts because when a major hurricane strikes land by the time you are inland a few miles the wind decreases by around 20%. Now PCB probably saw cat 2 or 3 winds only. Thanks for writing in and I hope you are doing better. I sure hope this stupid virus goes away soon. How does Panama City look now other than the trees?

      There hadn't been a direct hit to Panama City by a major hurricane in a lifetime, before Michael. Near misses which caused significant damage, but not a direct hit. Opal, Eloise, Kate, Erin, all missed us although we had weather from them.
      Oddly, Hurricane Earl (1998) made landfall at Panama City, but for whatever reason, it is rarely mentioned in local tropical weather lore.

    What the rest of the country doesn't realize, is that, those of us who live in the central and eastern panhandle simply were not prepared for anything like this. Before this, we were not a terribly hurricane prone area. We would get tropical storms, and every now, and then, a CAT one hurricane would come ashore. The major hurricanes always strike well to the west of us, into Alabama and Mississippi. To have the third strongest land falling hurricane in US history, strike on October 10th, of all times, caught everyone here by complete surprise. I still can't believe it. Marianna, FL, 60 miles inland, had sustained winds of 130 MPH. Things will never be the same.

    • @writerconsidered
      @writerconsidered 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So lulled into complacency. I'm guessing you were born after 1975 and have no memory of hurricane Eloise. Nothing like this but Eloise did blow out 3/4 of the beachfront property. You are on the golf coast and have been watching major hurricanes go into the golf for decades, hurricanes are a crap shoot as to where they will go. It was just a matter of time before one hit PC again.

    • @Gallagherfreak100
      @Gallagherfreak100 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@writerconsidered : Wrong. Born in 1955, and remember Hurricane Eloise quite well. Was living in Tallahassee at the time. Eloise was a weakening CAT 3, when it came ashore in South Walton County in late Sep, 1975. NOTHING like Michael. Not even close. Eloise was so damaging to beachfront property, because the building codes were so lax. Much of the beachfront housing was not even elevated. A lot of the homes were slab on grade. Michael produced far stronger winds in Marianna (60 - 70 miles inland) than Eloise produced right along the coast. Opal was actually more damaging than Eloise.

    As we proceed in life, there's one thing I've tried to explain to immediate loved ones, and friends and that's..
    When near the coastal region of Atlantic hurricane belt (take gulf coastal for example)
    You have to be so far north of i-10 to be in anything close to being "safe" and even then once you get into the realm of a cat. 4+ all bets are off, I lived in Marianna back in late 80s and even they got walloped, we (as Atlantic hurricane belt residing) have got to realize a strong 3 and up you are in for the most terrifyingly horrific experience you ever want to think about staying and going through...it isn't the place or time to keep women and children along with the men to "ride this one out" I been in Brevard county since late 80s / back to Broward county a few stints, happened to be in Broward when Andrew was gonna have ft Lauderdale as ground zero.
    And in 04 in Brevard for Charlie, Wilma (different yr) Frances, Gene, and NONE of those were a strong 3 or greater (weak, middle, and strong for each category makes an huge difference too UNTIL you get to a strong 4++ then all bets are off... Mother nature is NO JOKE . batten it down / & G.T.F.O. !

Every single town and state in every single country needs to have a hurricane for me to even be able to consider accepting God's harsh behavior like this. This is crazy child abuse. And I actually lived in Lynn Haven, Florida which is the town directly north of Panama City. My trailer was destroyed by hurricane Michael. Sadly. Goodness. And now I had to move back with my parents in Connecticut where I grew up and I totally can't stand this place. I don't see any type of valid reason for God to act like this ever. Maybe earth was created so God could live out his child abusing fantasies or something. That's what it feels like to me. If God wants to destroy places, then destroy the wickedest cities in the world first, which he does not do. Panama City & Lynn Haven area had pretty nice people. Everywhere else I lived had so many crazy people that I did not feel it was worth it to try to live the rest of my life there. My hometown in Connecticut. Such a negative vibe here that was almost nonexistent in Panama City. So obviously a place like here in Connecticut should get destroyed before those towns in the Florida panhandle, in my opinion. I don't know what else. Peace.

      @Desley I lived in Tampa, Florida in 2008. I lived in the Clearwater, Florida area in early 2009. Those places are EASILY SOOOOOO MUCH WORSE than Lynn Haven, Florida! No dought. Soooooo, why is Tampa Florida still standing "according to God's stanards" and why is Lynn Haven, Florida totally destroyed (almost)? What could be the "valid reason" about why Lynn Haven, Florida was destroyed, but Tampa/Clearwater, & places like Miami, Florida are still "undestroyed"? The Tampa & Miami area are CLEARLY MORE SINFUL! Soooo, why would God do such an evil deed??????😵😵😵😵😵😭😭😭😭😩😩😩😩

    2018 Hurricane Michael rips through Florida. 2019 Hurricane Dorian empties the Bahamas. And both category 5 on land.

      Dorian was supposedly a much stronger storm. But what really interest me is that both Dorian and Michael both relatively did the same amount of wind damage.
      Then you think about that Dorian was a much more slower moving storm, while Michael was a fast mover. Unlike Michael, Dorian had much more time to do its damage. But yet, like I said before, the wind damage they did is basically the same.
      So that begs the question, what would’ve the damage looked like if Dorian was a fast mover like Michael? Surely the wind damage would be much less, right?
      Now of course I’m not trying to downplay Dorian in any way because it was obviously a more intense and better defined storm. Having a pressure of 910mb and virtually perfect eye wall structure.
      Though I don’t believe it’s wind speeds were the same caliber.

    • @kartozus5223
      @kartozus5223 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justinharris5195 Michael caused serious damage to a storm surge on a Mexican Beach. Michael's wind speed is 160 mph, and with those winds, the wave just washes away even the strongest buildings. One thing if we compare the damage in Mexico Beach, and the damage in Panama city 2 suffered much less as the winds were blowing in the opposite direction i.e. not from the Bay and from the first Bay and led to the devastation of the first
      Dorian had winds of up to 185 mph, although some reports suggested winds could reach 190 mph. Dorian's speed played a big part in the devastation, and the devastation in the Bahamas is much stronger than in Florida. Most of all in the Bahamas, the city of Marsh Harbor was affected-this is the slow movement of Dorian and there was not a storm surge, as in Florida. And if you compare Marsh Harbor to Dorian's slow-motion postrodavshim and Mexico Beach postrodavshim from storm wind form of the body of Michael, then Marsh Harbor suffered much more than it because of the slow movement of the hurricane and strong winds at a speed of 185 mph and possibly 190 mph.
      Conclusion the speed of a hurricane plays an important role in causing damage. Dorian moved very slowly, for the wind was blowing down. So Dorian garazdo is more destructive than Michael, even though Michael caused a devastating storm surge in Mexico Beach.

    • @justinharris5195
      @justinharris5195 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kartozus
      The storm surge played a huge role in Dorians destruction, it was 25ft.
      Dorian might as well have been over water since the Bahamas is such a small area and highest elevation in the Bahamas is like, 45ft or so. Of course the devastation was more widespread, it’s all about the geography.
      And yea, no shit Panama City got lighter winds since the forward motion of Michael combined with land friction is the reason why the west side of most hurricane eye walls are less intense. Which probably was the case with Dorian.
      And I really don’t sea any evidence for higher wind speeds than 190mph, epically when the wind damage between both hurricanes look the same. And I’m aware the building codes in the Bahamas are quite strict, but even so, I saw wooden buildings that held up pretty well, which basically confirms that the winds were not anything higher than 185mph.
      The point I was making is that the reason Dorian did so much damage is the combination of 25ft surge and the extreme slow movement of the storm. Which would explain why even reinforced concrete structures were destroyed.
      I believe the wind damage would’ve been much less than hurricanes like Andrew or Michael if Dorian was a fast mover.
      Edit: I did looked at Icylones, “Josh Morganmen’s” video in the eye wall of Dorian, and compared it to “stormchasingvideos” 1hour and 43minute long hurricane Michael Mexico beach video, and they both seem to be at the same intensity, though the Mexico beach video being more intense.

    • @kartozus5223
      @kartozus5223 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justinharris5195 As for the winds as we remember at first Michael was a strong category 4 with winds of 155 mph but repeated analysis showed that Michael had winds of 160 mph which is equal to category 5. It is possible that at some stage of life perhaps it was after crossing the island of Abaka Dorian still could reach 190 mph but these winds were short lived in contrast to the winds of 185 mph well in General the difference is very small between 185 and 190 mph well in sezhe I also agree that vryatli he could reach 190 mph . As for the city of Panama city I meant that this city has not experienced a storm surge since the winds were blowing in the opposite direction than in Mexico beach. And so there and there winds reached a maximum of 160 mph.

    • @justinharris5195
      @justinharris5195 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kartozus
      They could revise Dorian higher or lower in the post analysis, though it will probably stay the same since the hurricane hunters didn’t make a lot of errors in this particular storm.
      As you probably already know the NHC and HRC both look back at their data and review dropsond data, aircraft data, radar velocities, SFMR measurements, satellite presentation, flight level winds and pressure, ground level winds and pressure, etc, to revise a storm.
      The difference about Michael is that not only they confirmed a cat5 by computer data, but by wind damage and even video evidence, like a mentioned in my last comment, to confirm this. They also did the same thing with Andrew but it took 10years because of a lack of understanding in tropical cyclone eye wall structures.
      In Dorian’s case, like most other storms, if a revision of the storms winds does happen, it will most likely be from computer data, since the wind damage that it did is obviously cat5 and the storm is already advertised as one.
