- The filmclip to Laibach's "Geburt Einer Nation" (Birth of a Nation) from their 1987 Album, "Opus Dei". It is a cover of Queen's "One Vision". Laibach cleverly twists the tone of the original song by singing in German and turning the song into a Wagnerian March.

I love the first part when they're walking. They're like "C'mon let's do this. Let's DO THIS!!"
1:13 Ja! Ja! Ja! Get me a LIGHT BEER
That one always confused me - why would Laibach want light beer? But Google translate says that it's just "give me a vision" (or "guiding picture" in German).
The sentence is actually "Ja! Ja! Ja! Gebt mir ein Leitbild!" Leitbild translates to "guiding picture" and means a vision. It is spelled similar to "light beer", though.
hypoPLAsm it is just a joke, friend :)
Lillie Munster that is exactly what I always thought it sounded like.
Obviously, the best german band comes from Slovenia :)
THIS WAS YOUGOSLAV BAND FROM SLOVENIA.SO, I MUST SAY THAT I AM PROUD WITH FACT THAT I COULD GROW UP IN ONLY FREE COUNTRY FROM 20st century.SFRJ. THANK YOU TITO FOR FREEDOME I DID HAVE AND BEST PASSPORT IN THE WORLD, YES, THANK YOU FOR GOOD MUSIC TO.
Great cover of a Queen song!!!
Everytime I feel sad, I watch a Laibach clip: I enjoy the good music and laugh to the funny irony.
give me a light beer!!!!
have a light beer
However, Davor, Laibach are particularly adept at playing with cultural/national/social stereotypes and notions, I would not be surprised in the least if they deliberately included lyrics which could be misconstrued in another language [but perhaps not this time] ;)
John Meffen My thoughts exactly.
Teutonically tongue in cheek and wonderfully euro pop I love it.Ich kommte, ich sehe, unt ich bin nach Hause gegangen !!!
I really like it when native english speakers sing in German. One of my favorites is Man'O'War. But the hard sound of Laibach is as good as the speed metal from Man'O'War!
This group sounds really good!!
Vynikající, jako vždy, Laibach je super !!!
Altro che Queen...grandissima cover...grandissimi Laibach!!!!!!!!
Great Cover, heavier and best of Queen's !
Ich liebe es! Love it...My favorite by Laibach.
To me it sounds like he's saying "GET ME A LITE BEARD!!" (or beer) That just makes me enjoy this more.
"A lite beer for the WORLD!" Yawoll to that!
When I first heard it I thought he said "GET ME A LIGHT BEER!"
Mark Kregel u mean hes not saying that??! I totally thought that was the lyric for all these years.! hahaa
Playing at Manc Academy on April 12th.... I will miss that gig on account of being on a hitch-hiking mission in Europe, which will almost certainly mean going through Slovenia! Oh, the Irony...
Laibach Forever!!!
I never knew this was out there! Love this song!!!!
Great song and video. Looks like they had fun doing the video and singing the song.
I remember the first time I saw Laibach & wasn't sure how to interprete it! :)
Yes, indeed, yes
The best!
26 years and he still doesn't have his light beer.
Ils sont tellement bons qu'on pourrait croire qu'ils sont belges. I will laibach !
my second favorite laibach song! their covers are so much fun! maybe "sympathy for the devil" is a close 3rd... my favorite is their kraftwerk cover: "kraftbach - liewerk". anyone ever seen a video for that?
18 years, and he still can't get a light beer
Mansa banda carajo!!
1:13 "JA. JA. JA. JA. GET ME A LIGHT BEER."
That dude. Really needs a light beer.
super excelente
One Vision!
Godlike!!!!
Haha, great analogy. "Duracell. Ja! Ja! Ja! Jaaaaaa!"
que buen cover
Laibach is rammstein for Adults!
Nice one Laibach, I never realized Freddy Mercury was a Nazi until they pointed it out!
One more for this.
YAH YAH YAH
im listening this song first time ever, and its clear he wants light beer
Freddie would have fucking loved this as much as I do.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... ...give me an light beer! XD
happy birthday freddie
Frankly any song screamed in German is going to sound like Rammstien
Świetny cover. szkoda, że oni nie grają przed Queen 7 lipca we wrocławiu. musze na nich iść zaraz po tamtymkoncercie.
1:30 Mixed nuts. We brought him blood and light beer. Pretty well!
Brings out the unselfconscious fascism of Queen's music very nicely (when you think about it, so many of their songs centre on the experience of power or victory over another, and let's not get started on Freddie's stage persona!). The Birth of a Nation is a famous D. W. Griffiths film lionising the Ku Klux Klan, so changing the name of the song to that is pretty on the nose!
Epic win.
A lot of people seem to think Laibach is fascist, because they are incapable of reading below the surface of anything. Whatever, they're brilliant and OBVIOUSLY parodic if you have more than 2 brain cells banging together at one time. Cheers from... America ;)
i always thought he said "get me a light beer."
YA YA, get me a light beer!
@Assimandelini It still is.
@momuffin haha! i've always thought that's what he was saying since i was in 7th grade...back in 1987.
Gibt mir ein Leitbild!
The head gear is called a kotex
"A light beer for the world!" (1:35). I'll drink to that...I guess.
Ein LEITBILD für die Welt
We used to sing "The swantz un weiss is Karkovice" (former catcher for the white sox) I love this song, and overly dramatic video. Where can I get one of those Elks?
Queen - One Vision (the original version of this song)
I do.
Get me a light beer!!
formidable ,salutation nS!
8818.........
GIVE ME A LIGHT BEER!!!!
I swear it sounds like he says Get me a light beer xD
@t0dmacher There shouldn't be ANY debate about the meaning of the original song. In the 2011 BBC documentary, "Queen: Days of Our Lives," Roger Taylor stated his lyrics were "sort of half nicked off Martin Luther King's famous speech." And so it goes . . .
He looks like Rowan Atkinson from Blackadder goes forth - the Wibble scene :D
Fuck Yeah Laibach \m/ 1:12 ''JA JA JA JA GiMME A LIGHT BEER ''
Nothing of both.
One race and one dream
The dream that we are all ONE RACE.
Humans, nothing more nothing less.
@pashedmotatos Glad to see someone got it the right way around. Rammstein worshipped these guys.
Why does this remind me of reading Mladina....
Please send food to Mr. Laibach. Mit ein Lite Bier.
SHNELL! MACH SHNELL!
Cover. of Queens One Vision.
Nothing like that, more, other poeple are listening now to a song original by queen. But Laibach laid bare what the intentions where, just compare and translate the texts. In the orignal you finds something "One true religion" an that add much to think to the message....
GEBURT EINER NATION! O/ O/ O/
I think Freddie would have been proud. Brian, Roger and John would have just stood back in bemusement however. Hehe.
respect from Rusland slavic brothers!
We understand each other then :))
i dont said: this is ripped of rammstein, i said, it sounds like rammstein... [like] ---> rammsteinsound = laibachsound... i knew rammstein and i didnt knew laibach, so i put laibach to a reference i know about, and this reference is rammstein. sorry my english isnt that good^^
what does the giant plus sign mean anyway. is it the maltesse cross?
At least one sane person here.
He only drinks lite beer, he is watching his weight.
I want a hat like that, seriously what sort of hat is it ?
Antlers would be cool too
Ive heard that it was around before NSK. (I know a thing or two about new solveian art)
Ja, ja! Gibt me ein Lightbeer!
Gibt mir ein Leitbild = Gives me a model (for the world)
However its a lot of more than irony, its a warning and a message.
The joke was actually 20+ years ago, kid.
@2XS Laibach aren't native english speakers, they all come from Slovenia (or more correctly Yugoslavia at the time), english i just as much a foreign language to them as german.
@xerfes Jawohl!
Clever Leni Riefensthal parody. Yes, it's definitely "light Beer". On The Queen original, Freddie ended singing "Fried Chicken". Humour, eh?
one world! one nation! one eye! one shit!!
What the heck does it mean?
"i got a light beer"? "get me a light beer"?
22|01
Hehe, me too.
Oh Laibach are ingenious somehow:
Totalitarism of any direction is still a serious matter!!! That is what their ART is about: How does oneself deal with ANY totalitarism???
Hitler,Stalin,Polpot,Mussolini,Ceaucescu,Bush,Putin...
Who is your favorite Oppressor???
you mean the oil on canvas guy?
This so should have been the version used in 'Iron Eagle'... lol ;)
when I first heard this song years ago I thought it was by rammstein
3:08
Is that supposed to be Tito, or just a generic representation of dictators?
laibach cover songs well:"We are not interested in making cover versions as another tune of the same song, but changing history... We are particularly making originals out of copies, because pop music is based very much on repetition and copying... we always treat pop music as unoriginal music."
