I'm gonna be a new cyclist in a week all because of TFL's crappy service and instead of paying almost £200 a month for a zone 1-4 pass, it's better to buy a £400 bike and £200 of accessories and save though the months. Watching this video as a guide for me later on. Thanks for the upload.
@@kierannee528 Just upgraded to an ebike which makes cycling a lot of fun. I tend to cycle to work at 5am which is nice and quiet but the trip back is busy. I don't filter as much because I like to feel a bit safer lol
This is one of the main videos that makes me want to ride my bike around NYC, just because of the variety of cyclists and the bike setups they have. So interesting to me, hah.
Benjamin Scales most of the time drivers of busses are trained to be aware of bikes simply because of how small London’s streets are and those of us who are intimidated sometimes should know that busses and lorries will very rarely exceed 20-25 mph so you should be completely fine. 😄
In my country is a distant dream that kind of bike-friendly city, In my city there are few bike lanes and they are always occupied by disrespectful pedestrians (not to mention the poor condition of the streets, having some 700x25 tires is suicide). ... How beautiful it must be to pedal in London. Greetings from Argentina!
you call this a bike friendly city?? What you don't realise from this video is that the road surface, especially on bike paths, is always terrible. You can't go five metres without hitting a pothole or bad repairs after utilities work has been carried out, and the bike paths are never properly rollered like the road surface so they're never fully smooth. I love cycling in london, however. There are a lot of drivers and crazy pedestrians and cyclists rank last on the list of things for the council to think about, but there are big wide bus lanes everywhere which you can just cruise along nicely. Plus, thanks to the congestion charge, the centre of london is relatively traffic free on the weekend. Great to cycle in, just not what i would a consciously "cycle friendly" city
There are no cycling paths/lanes in my country. Drivers aren't used to cyclists either, you would wet your pants if you took the paths I take every time I go out if this little traffic scared you haha. (I'm from Algeria)
Its safer than it seems. Traffic is really slowed down and drivers are used to look out for pedestrians at every point. Also pedestrians are used to really focussing on crossing, so you don't have jaywalkers wondering in front of whizzing cars. There's a method to this madness, live there a month or 2 and you get used to it.
This looks so good! I can only imagine how fun it must be to cycle there with other cyclists like this. I'm in a suburb of Atlanta, they barely if at all cycle and the speed limit for cars is 45 miles per hour and they do 60 miles per hour.
I understand that. I’m from Houston. Our bike lanes are a joke. Also people are too obese here and get tired walking up 5 steps. The whole city is flat and there’s a bayou that stretches across the city yet it’s not a biking city
I never saw a bus be it a double decker or a single deckor with 3 entry/exit doors before in my life. Is the rear the exit point for those on the upper deck, the middle for exit for the lower deck and the front for entry? That's cool! I wish they had those buses over here in Ireland. It does get very crowded when there's a lot of people getting off the bus from the upper decks and lower decks and people who have paid their fare trying to get to their seats.
Nice road craft. It’s been a while since I road around London (30 years) and the bike lanes you have now are amazing. Think if everyone on a bike in this vid was in a car? Personally I fit a massive air horn to gee some of them pedestrians and cars up a bit.
I'd love to live in London I'm half British on my mom's side so I can get my passport, I've never seen so many cyclists before. Where I live I'm in the minority alot of the guys at work go "Holy shit you ride 11km one way?!" But they don't realize that it's not very far when you're going 16-20hm/hr
