Awesome work. I am jealous of so many parts you have. lol I will also show my ignorance about the lighter flywheel. I recently had to replace the sprag clutch on my newly transplanted 999s engine. The flywheel was considerably lighter than the standard 998 flywheel. Ive noticed that turn in feels differently but I wasnt sure what it was. Your explanation makes sense. Keep up the great work.
Haha, right?? I did a flywheel on my old 996 and it was truly unbelievable how much it changed the handling. I can't wait to see what it does on an already lightweight bike that also has Mag wheels 🤯
thats hot man!! I was afraid that with that engine swap you was stuck using a Ohlins TTX rear shock. Good to know that you can still use the 916 type shock
I hope the guy holds himself back so the bike can shine and is emphasized in its beautiful shapes and not overshouted by some artsy graphics ... by the way, great music choice again !
@@simong7310 You'll love it. It's a modern take on a 90s livery and I am VERY happy with how it looks so far. And thanks! It's getting harder to find good royalty-free music, and I'd honestly say that half the time editing is spent finding the right vibe 🤷♂
This has got to be the most expensive 748 on the planet 😀 and I can't wait to see it finished. Definitely an inspiration to see what I can do with my stock 748. The joy of these bikes is they are already kinda great but have so much room for improvement. BTW - that engine swap group you mentioned, do they have a forum? I ditched FB a long time ago, I don't wanna go back.
I mean, it definitely ain't cheap, but it's really not as bad as it seems. I got a heck of a deal on quite a few of the big ticket items and parting out both bikes has helped quite a bit. Still, it's definitely out of my price range, but ah well 🤷♂
@@TheOriginalCoda You have no idea how badly I want to buy this thing from the shop when it's done. It may end up being a little too rich for my blood, which is heartbreaking, but at least I get to build and ride the thing!

What a awesome build!! The detail is super incredible, love all the Corse parts your finding. Hey just a tidbit, I think your windscreen rubber wellnuts are on backwards.
For the rear? I go a little more in-depth on the episode I’m filming this week, but both the pin and fancy new nut are all from a 955 Racing. Which, coincidentally, is my favorite Ducati of all time.
@@taylorwlaird its beautiful. you have done my dream bike build!! Beat me to it. I have been planning to do this same exact build but using 1098S/1198S forks with a 996 front fender. Are you going to have this tuned on a dyno?
Do you mind me asking what you paid for the R/RS footpegs, hangers and heal plates? I am being offered a set and they seem a tad pricey. I can send you pics of both my 748 R & RS for reference to your build if that helps.
Oh, goodness, I didn’t even see this! And I paid roughly $500 for the pegs, brackets and heel plates. And honestly, I just want pics of your bike in general.
@@taylorwlaird thats some rare work! My febur did not have those cutouts. Is that for more weight saving or cooling? The mag swingarm is light enough already
I'd say your build is now officially drool worthy, or as the lads over at 44Teeth would say, a proper jizz machine! Some really nice parts on there now, even a couple that might have me a little bit envious, wishing they were on mine. Maybe.. ;) Interesting comment about the handling improvements that come from a lighter flywheel ; I swore there was a noticeable difference in flickability when I swapped the stock item from my 996 for a Nichols number. Some people on the forums poo poo this idea that it could influence handling. I say they're not sensitive enough to feel the difference
I mean, you're greatly reducing a huge amount of centrally-located rotating mass, so there are significantly less gyroscopic forces to fight when you tip in to a corner. This may be controversial, but I have found that people that poo-poo basic things like that are probably the same that take belt sanders to their knee pucks 🤷♂ And I'm SO stoked you dig it. You have no idea how often I go out to the shop to stare at it.
My friend, I have every idea how often you go to the shop to stare at this bike! In 20 years of 996 ownership i get exactly equal pleasure from riding it as hard as I know how, AND starring at it from every angle for longer than most would consider reasonable, even 20 years on! So trust me, i get it..👍
@@taylorwlaird I also see people on forums that poo-poo lighter wheels saying they don't make a difference. My guess is they've never taken the leap of faith and balk at spending the money. Anyway, once I decide on an engine for my 748 a new flywheel will definitely be on the list!
The whole point was that it doesn’t fit, nor does the 1098 one. This caliper was a cheap test to avoid spending $600 to find out a P2 wouldn’t fit. A real one, or a thinner Corse item, will make its way on eventually.
Those 998RS footpags are sweet
I know right. I'd personally be happy with some copies, the stock 748 setup is shite and has to go.

It took a while, but we found it lurking in the house of an RS parts hoarder in the UK by the name of Chris Keay.
