The native language is part of the script, actors in this series worked hard to act and expressed their emotions in their own language, let's appreciate their hard work through watching with Korean language .
One of the best parts of the series is the incredible acting by all the key players. That is affected by the English dub as the voice actors are not the same actors and the acting for the voice actors does not get the level of attention it needs to deliver the dialogue with the emotion that the original actors do. Reading subtitles long enough, you will eventually forget you're reading and it almost seems like you're actually hearing the English words coming from the actors.
It’s funny, cause I (Brandon), have subtitles on 24/7. Even when I’m watching shows that are in English 😂 so I love them, and have no prob with using them for this. But Luke hates reading, so avoids it when he can (plus he feels it interrupts the picture). But he’ll power through for this.
Luke, the dubbed translation and subtitled translation often don't match because, for the dub, often times they need to not only translate what the actor said, but match it to mouth movements and how the scenes are cut. The subtitles are usually a more accurate translation.
Only English subs. It's not even about the fact how accurate the sub or dub is. It's more about getting proper character emotions through the original dialogue. As you'll soon see, this is a very character driven show.
Watch with English subtitle, not 'closed caption' you watched this episode with. CC caption is a transcript of dubs(including sounds). Original subtitle translates much better than CC sub. Reading CC is like reading dub verbatim
My first time through was the English dub. The second time I watched the sub and that is the only way I’ll rewatch from now on. It is a different experience and the English subtitled version is far superior.
The show is meant to be watched in the language it was made in: Korean. You get the full experience with the emotions and performances of the talented actors. With the dub, it sounds awkward, unnatural, it doesn't convey the emotion and feeling of the translations correctly and the emotions of the dubbing actors just don't fit right. In short, the dub is a joke and isn't worth watching. Watch it with Korean language and English subs.
So I (Brandon) whole heartedly agree with you, and honestly, ALWAYS have captions on, even when watching shows that are naturally in English. Had I watched it alone, it wouldn’t have even been a question; Korean audio with English subs. But in Luke’s defense, and he kinda mentioned it in the video, while you get the true experience and performance from the original audio, it may be lost on many people who are so focused on reading the subs, they miss the nuances of the performance. I can’t think of a single instance where a dub works well, or isn’t awkward, so we’re aware of that. Luke just doesn’t want to risk missing a single thing in the picture because of reading the bottom of the screen. But no need to worry, we are 10000% watching it with Korean audio and English subtitles, since it’s the best way to watch it, and also the overwhelming consensus! 🤝
In this era, squid game.Korea's current popularity, including BTS, seems to be at its peak. There are many countries where Korea's unique culture has flourished economically since World War II, but I don't think there is a country like Korea that has developed culture, economy, and politics (in turn).I'm a beginner at CNN who makes videos introducing Korean stories that foreigners envy. When will I be able to make this much? It's hard to be on the news...I learned a lot. What I want to have endlessly is the power of culture...Hangul is the center of the Korean Wave. There is a saying that Korean food is the action register of the Korean Wave. Now, learning Korean culture through Korean food will have a positive impact on Korea.Korean is a sound, so once you learn it, there will be no problem writing it.
Original version is always better because you can hear the actors's voices. Dub version is always weird and shit. In any language. If you can read you should watch in native language.
I think you have on the English 'CC' subtitles, but you should switch to the other one just called 'English' because that one is more accurate to the Korean dialogue.
The dub is awful. Along with the erroneous dubbed lines, the inflection and tone of voice doesn't match up a lot, it just sounds absolutely goofy af. If you struggle with subtitles to the point where you are just lost then do what you have to do to digest the show. If you are capable though, definitely stick with the subtitled native language. It's amazing. Either way, hope you guys enjoy. Glad you're putting this out! Also you're using the subtitles for hearing impaired, (which in some parts might spoil some small reveals, but not really a huge deal) i would use the standard Eng subs instead of the Eng CC subtitles
@@NinaPB Absolutely, if subtitles are a problem for anyone, the dub doesn't ruin the show or anything like that. I didn't mean for my opinion of the dub to sound so harsh.
I watched the whole thing dubbed and I think people are exaggerating about how bad it is. It is perfectly fine. And for me definitely better than the subtitles. But why not turn on both just in case the subtitles make more sense than the dub?
@@Zamrod It's not really exaggerated, the dub is awful but i wouldn't go as far as saying it ruins the show. It looks and sounds unnatural....emotion and inflection is lost because the voice actor is standing in a booth by themselves reading lines off a piece of paper, as opposed to acting in the actual scene. For people who are familiar with foreign films the dub is horrendous. For someone who doesn't typically watch foreign entertainment, or has trouble with reading subtitles, the best that can be said is "It works".
I'm sure dozens of people made this point, but when you watch the dubbed version, you miss out on the performances of a stellar cast. And that's among the things that people rave about. As for the subs, here's the deal. There are 2 versions of English subs, "English" and "English [CC]" The "English" subs are fairly good translations of the Korean. The "English [CC]" subs are a straight up transcript of the dubs (the script the voice actors took into the recording studio). So you're gonna want to select the "English" subs and not the "English [CC] subs.
Remember when Kevin was describing Pizza by Alfredo to Michael in The Office? That's how I would describe the dubbed version. I think this reaction you did to the subbed was great, but if it's really troublesome and hard for you to enjoy, I'll understand if you switch.
Lots of people were pushed or bumped into and weren't eliminated. Maybe there was a algorithm to stop eliminations for one's who were pushed instead of willingly moving?
Squid Game's director chips in on whether to watch it on dub or with subtitles: th-cam.com/video/-hW_fh0g7c8/w-d-xo.html Better watch with subs unless you're dyslexic.
Netflix has TWO English subtitles. 1) English CC: This is the Closed Caption of the English dub. This is the bad one. 2) English: This is the good subtitle. Normally I'm for dub so I can concentrate on the action but the dub is so laughably bad I just can't.
Yup, so we’ve heard. Which is why, in our reaction to Episode 2, which is out right now, we watch it in the original Korean dialogue with the English subtitles (Not CC). 👍🏼
Dubbed acting doesnt matched the actual acting of these incredible actors..this is the first time ive watched something with subtitles that didnt piss me off reading them lines on the screen..
Dub is NOT good. It doesn’t translate quite right, but you also don’t hear the art of the actor’s voice, authentic emotions, etc. please watch in Korean with English subtitles.
OR at least you have the wrong subtitles showing up on your clips. They are the [CC] subtitles. What you want is plain English, not English [CC] the CC version is a copy of the dub.
No worries, every episode we reacted to after this one, was with the Original Korean dialogue and the English subtitles (NOT CC). Our viewers let us know.
I hate the dub...I had to watch it like that with my wife. I watched it with subtitles on my own. You want that connection with the characters actual voices.
I started watching the English dubbed version and had to stop very quickly. I knew nothing about how accurate it might be to the original, but in English the dialogue was so awful I couldn't bear listening to it! The phrasing was horrible, and the voice-actors were toneless and bland - whomever read the roles had no real acting ability. When I switched to the original Korean it was so much better - the quality of the acting let you understand the emotional content even before the subtitles.

The english version isn't TERRIBLE from what I've seen. idk about wrong lines or whatever. But the Korean version is way way way waaaaaaayyyy better.

But for kind of 'sub beginners'. CC is also good because it shows who is speaking.

In most English-speaking countries, Eng dub is not developed
because Eng voices are viewed as they are. So Eng dubbing is unfamiliar..
