    Its nice to see kits from the old days. Back before some builders became snobby and argued about rivets. 😝

      Thanks for watching! Completely agree, Atlantis is doing a great service by re-producing kits anyone can build!

    Despite its simplicity, this is a very nice, vintage kit. And here is a bit of trivia: The original 1954 issue of this model kit made a brief cameo appearance in the first "Back to the Future" movie, where we catch a quick glimpse of the box on George McFly's nightstand. (This is just before his son Marty gives him the honor of being the very first person to hear the music of Eddie Van Halen . . . .)
    Thanks for posting this!

    I remember these kits and I always enjoyed building them. They got me started on the road to scale modeling and I am glad they are released again to a new generation who I hope will have as much fun with them as I did. Great looking model too!

    Great job. Never see Dauntless Dotty around. Col Robert Morgan flew Dotty for 26 missions after flying the Bell for 25 missions and subsequent war bound tour. Dotty was lost on her return trip back to the states after take off and never found. Very few pictures of exist and you nailed the look here.

      @@garyparker2969 Kee Bird was a B29 that made a forced landing on the ice sheets up in Greenland in the 1940s. It sat there almost entirely intact until the 1990s when it was decided to make a (really dumb) attempt at flying the bomber off the ice. A fire broke out and the entire plane was engulfed and destroyed. The charred, twisted, remains still sit up on the ice flow. It's another instance of something being okay where it was until someone decided to fix it and then screwed it up.

    Hi, what is the benefit of using Mark Fit over ordinary water? I see you using it before and after placing, I use ordinary water and it works ok, but clearly there is a reason for this product. your models are definitely something to aspire to achieving myself. Keep up the amazing work!!! Please try making the Avro Vulcan. I did that as a kid (43 now) and it was a cracking build.

      Decal solvents softens decals to sink into the curves and around panel lines, etc. It also helps them slide around on the paint much easier.
      Many times water works perfectly fine by itself.

    I am just getting into model planes now, and I am ordering all the supplies I will need like cement, paint, and tools. The only thing I need help with is the decal application. I have no idea how they work. What is that glue stuff you are using to apply the decals?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try this video on decals. It's not glue, it's called decal solvent, and isn't required, but it does help decals conform to the surface.

      You can use the kit national insignia for most bombers. Different tail codes can be laid out in a paint program and printed on clear decal film. I'm not sure they even make 1/144 B29 decals (just 1/72 and 1/48). You could also scan and reduce a larger decal.

    How do you get your decals to slide off the paper so easily without soaking them or have you done that off-camera?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you have to soak them first.

    If you don't want to mask and paint the deicer boots, the box art airplane (which is a real bomber and you can find photos of it) did not have them fitted. Dauntless Dottie did have them.

    This kit is a POS. Not used to this manufacturer. Actually never heard ot them. Bought it the other day for a friend of my son's. Weak and chincy material. Will do my best with the paint job.... Sorry.
