Obviously we make jokes about being dumb and chronically online but there’s no one like Brittany who has the range to then transition into talking seriously about something like Michelangelo’s œuvre and actually have a profound understanding and credible perspective about it. Other comedy podcasters aren’t switching into topics they’re genuinely well-read on like her. She is one of a kind and endlessly impressive
You perfectly captured the feeling I have every time I drive by the Colosseum, St.Peter's, Roman ruins, the Pantheon etc. I was born and raised in Rome, I am so used to living in an historical city I don't even pay attention anymore, but then again, every time I find myself in those places I get an overwhelming feeling I cannot explain. I am so lucky to be able to witness such beauty and history every day, Rome is so old you get to see something from every century right around the corner and I cannot wrap my head around the fact that so many people have walked these streets, so many wars have happened, gigantic artists, composers, kings, queens, dictators, gladiators, emperors etc have walked where I walk. You can't put that feeling into words, you know it if you've felt it

40:35 My personal take on the Sistine Chapel is that is wasn’t painted in the way we see it today for educational purpose, because if you consider its location and context it’s in the Vatican, it’s most regular visitors are going to be the most devout members of the church who already know the stories and who believe. My interpretation of the Sistine is that it was a doubleing down of Christian artistic practic. This was during the time of a growing reformation movement, and there was a need for the church to reestablish its shaken legitimacy, and one of the ways in which they did this was through papal artistic patronage. That’s why you see the Sistine chapel and the building of Saint Peter’s commence around this time. Through art they are communicating both liturgical and political agendas. Michelangelo also didn’t lay on his back for the painting of the Sistine, there’s a poem by him where in the margin he doodles himself standing and painting the ceiling :P
Art specialist that works at an auction house here! Loved hearing your thoughts on the rightful provenance for art! It’s so interesting to hear perspectives from people ‘outside’ the art world, I find that art professionals can easily lose touch with reality. I just want to add my 2 cents and also pose a question: What exactly makes an artwork historically significant? Does it mean that the artwork has a visual technical strength? Or that the artist is well known in the course of history? Because a lot of the ‘significant’ art that you are referring to (Klimt,Michelangelo), are artists that are well known because of their privilege and ‘appropriate’ subject matters. They had opportunities in a society that favoured their art and themselves and were taken seriously. I won’t get into this more, but it is important to think about this when considering the value of an artwork (which is an ENTIRELY different conversation). Secondly, I do want to mention that most private collectors of ‘historically significant’ art, display their works publicly. Whether it be in museums or public places. I must mention that most of the clients who purchase these high value pieces are in fact museums themselves. But then again, what makes these artworks so special when there are hundreds and thousands of artists from those eras who might have made even more ‘historically significant’ artworks according to the standards society has set. It is important to remember that art is subjective. What may be valuable to someone can be trash to another. Art is so arbitrary and I struggle to define it even after an MFA and 5 years art world work experience. There is so much that I don’t know, but I am open to different perspectives!
Also, I think it’s interesting how certain artist’s popularity often increases exponentially after they pass for some reason. Be it bandwagon attention, the added layer of mystery their death provides, or a sort of guilt for not giving them a chance. In the case of VanGogh, my personal favorite, it saddens me to think he experienced a lifetime of rejection, never knowing how it feels to be as adored as he is now.
going from “la la la la laa i love Timothée Chalamet” to discussing the importance of the preservation and displaying of historical art is exactly why i watch the Broski report

It’s so cool listening to you talk about nihilism because I studied Nietzsche in my philosophy class this past semester and he talked about what you were saying about how it can be optimistic to know how small you are. He talked about how the road to nihilism can be devastating or hopeful which I thought was really interesting so it’s cool hearing you talk about it as well! You always manage to get so intellectually philosophical in these podcasts I love it

So thank you ❤️ love you bestieeee 💞 hopefully i get some reception while im in the middle of the forest so i can still indulge in my obsession of your videos 😭
The READING TEST sent me into another dimension it was like hanging out with bestie in the computer room and doing dumb shit and losing breath lol. Brittany never change
My small hometown had a town hall meeting yesterday about a welcome center for immigrants and so many people showed up to protest it. I’ve never felt so disappointed in my community and this episode really spoke to me today
36:59 as a linguist i would say there is a 'wrong' way of speaking, but it's only when your audience (given they speak the same language) doesn't understand what you're trying to say. in that context you would have to 'correct' yourself by adjusting your words so your point comes across. if the audience understands you, you're good imo, and "me and my mom" as the subject clause of a sentence is a language variation that everyone understands and feels natural to a lot of English speakers. so you're good!
MAD respect for Brittany talking about sociolinguistics and getting frustrated when people correct other people's way of speaking. I'm from the south, and I got so annoyed with my linguistics classmates in college because they would speak so pretentiously to other students who weren't studying linguistics as if they were more intelligent for speaking a certain way. Then, the professor began a unit on dialects, creoles, pidgins, etc., and she pointed out that many of the things they were phasing out of their own vernacular or correcting other people about were actually grammatically correct in context. We talked about how correcting people and speaking in an intentionally pretentious way just serves to create division, which is the opposite of the purpose of communication and language in the first place. Of course, there is certainly value in having shared rules that help us be consistent and understand each other, but to assume that someone else's way of speaking is automatically incorrect because they speak differently than you often stems from classism, racism, and other forms of injustice.
55:47 leaving my hometown every weekend and just going to Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and Sequoia is such a different experience (yes I live in LA). Going from a place where you’ve grown up to a place that is full of new experiences and nature is just so relaxing and literally makes my mood 10x better. I get to meet so many people and observe animals I never knew existed. Being able to camp whenever I get the chance has brought me so much happiness I never thought about until about a year ago.
Girl same I've seen like twenty movies with TimChal in em and it literally took Dune 2 for me to finally unleash the beast. Idk what it is but he DEVOURS in that role. I'm salivating in my enclosure, my grip on reality fading fast
Literally keep telling people about this !! We're raised to work work work and many Americans feel content never leaving their bubbles (or don't have the means to). We get caught up in it all; work, relationships, money, etc (not invalidating these very real issues) and it feels like things just get deeper and deeper. I wish everyone could have the chance to experience what it's like to be in another world for even just a brief moment. To see that the world is so much more than the 20 mile radius of our daily life. I get to regularly visit family in Thailand and it always feels like I'm in another reality. I get a reminder that life is so much more than the daily stresses I feel back home, and that life CAN BE so much more. It helps me see things from a bigger picture. It's also just so meaningful to learn about what normal life is for people on the other side of the globe and to find humor in our similarities and differences. What snacks people grow up with, what they do after school, what sounds do they hear at night when they close their eyes; to connect with people you would never regularly meet and gain perspective. I feel like going somewhere else gives me a moment to take a breath and remember that the world continues to move around the little things.
Like, genuinely. I could just sit here and listen her her talk about ANYTHING all day. The way she articulates her interests make me feel like I as well have the same amount of interest in the subject

Omg I repaired buildings at Whitney as part of a conservation effort!!! I’m so happy they’re getting a shout out, they’re doing a fantastic job down there ❤
OMG I loved the art history part of this episode! I got to go to Austria for a little bit to study abroad and I went to the Belvedere Palace Museum that houses Klimt's the kiss and many of his other works. It was fantastic and a really large piece of art. They had a bunch of Monet's and Van Gogh's at this museum as well. I guess Klimt was very inspired by both of them and you can see it some of his other paintings. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend going.
45:00 It was the subject of the painting's niece, who was the last surviving member of their family after the holocaust. The painting was displayed in an Austrian museum, and the niece did want it in a museum, just not in Austria, as that's where their family had been murdered
your wisdom speaks volumes. the way you can talk on the importance of art and what it reflects, the good and bad of history. it is not your job to educate, but my god could i listen to you for hours
This was genuinely a beautiful episode, lighthearted start with some very important messages at the end. I love hearing Brittany talk about art, history, sociology, linguistics idek man maybe it’s a Taurus thing, probably my fav broski report so far
Legit though the art history segment was fascinating and sobering and I was hanging onto every word. I've been to Auschwitz and there are no words, but it's so extremely important to remember our world history and pay respects. Your podcasts are a rollercoaster and I'm normally cry-laughing out of hilarity, but I enjoy your 'serious' tangents and knowledge and insights just as much!
I love your take on touring paintings. I love love LOVE caravaggio and baroque style in general. While in Minnesota (I’m from Nebraska), I went to their art institute and out of some miracle, his painting Judith Beheading Holofernes had been on display, the original painting from Italy. I was so so so happy
we are reading beloved in my english class right now, a book which is currently being banned in multiple states (btw which is ironic considering toni morrison won the nobel prize for that book). it is a very difficult book to read, but it is so incredibly important to read. the topics it deals with are heavy on their own, but it’s so much more knowing that this book is based upon what black americans had to experience during slavery and after its abolition. like you said, it is so incredibly important to learn about slavery and other dark parts of history. it’s the age-old saying, if history is not taught, we are doomed to repeat it.
I love when Brittany has these deep and important talks about politics and history and art it’s just so interesting to me and she is so articulate with her words and educated on the topics she is discussing. I wish she could be my history professor.
FINALLY WE GET TO TALK ABOUT TIMOTHEE CHALAMET IVE BEEN A SECRET FAN FOR YEARS BUT IT WAS FROWNED UPON FOR SOME REASON. He’s so dorky and awkward in interviews i’m obsessed.
I was watching this while on the treadmill and the part where you were reading as fast as you can gave me so much anxiety 😂😂 And museum recommendation: Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston! It is STUNNING
I always enjoy your art perspectives. Also! For some people with ADHD, caffeine has the opposite effect as intended, making us calm and relaxed instead of energized, which is why stimulants can help treat ADHD. Caffeine helps me sleep, haha. So taurine actually helps me feel energized in a way that caffeine typically doesn't.
i loved the end of this episode sm. it is so important to travel when you can and just get out of your everyday cycle. for me it can feel depressing as well so i def think it is beneficial to go and see new things! also I LOVE little women, one of my fav movies and it started my obsession with timothée chalamet lol
I like watching twitch streamers but mostly smaller ones. The difference between your experience on twitch depending on whether you watch streamers with tens of thousands of viewers vs streamers at less than a thousand viewers is MONUMENTAL. Not to say there aren’t big streamers worth watching but it’s a very different experience
Yessss. It's the small streamers who are building communities around some very niche and nerdy topics. There's something special happening on Twitch and I'm curious to see how it changes in the near future.
I actively watch about 10 streamers on Twitch, most of them being women. I always have a twitch stream open and I've made so many great friends from Twitch communities.
Hi Brittany, one of my friends recently said that when she watches your podcast, she only watches the funny parts. And that any time you talk about something serious (like art, wars, recent news) she skips it. And I want to let you know, THANK YOU for talking about that stuff. It is my favorite part of the podcast and truly makes me want to learn more. I aspire to have the knowledge you do about the world. You inspire me. I love your podcast!
You gotta talk about the Armory Show of 1913. Insane moment in art history. My mod art prof described it as “possibly the most important gallery exhibition in American history.” It gathered the works of literally everyone, it was like 1400 pieces (which is insane), it featured Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Duchamp (before he did Dada), Renoir, Degas, I mean literally all the big names of the time. It was a huge deal. It introduced america to the more avant garde stuff that Europe was doing.

I was worried SICK
i was starting to get withdrawals
ME TOO
Just finished warming up my jail porridge now I can eat in peace
omg ur hair is soo pretty MAMA BRITT IS SERVINGG
As someone who’s been on the Timmy train for 5 years… FINALLY BRITTANY GETS IT
55:47 leaving my hometown every weekend and just going to Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and Sequoia is such a different experience (yes I live in LA).
31:45 it became the wild kid from the thorn berry’s HAHAHAHAHA
50:14 “the most we can do is just be kind to each other” brought tears to my eyes 💜
Like, genuinely. I could just sit here and listen her her talk about ANYTHING all day. The way she articulates her interests make me feel like I as well have the same amount of interest in the subject
All hot girls turn 26 and then start balding because of hormonal issues beyond their control... It's one of life's greatest kept secrets
This is too real
It’s not always balding, sometimes it’s IBS. If they have thick luscious hair, just know they be oscillating between constipation and explosive diarrhea at terrifying speeds.
Omg I repaired buildings at Whitney as part of a conservation effort!!! I’m so happy they’re getting a shout out, they’re doing a fantastic job down there ❤
I’m so happy our supreme leader has hopped on the Timothée Chalamet train
that train is going downhill so fast lol
OMG I loved the art history part of this episode! I got to go to Austria for a little bit to study abroad and I went to the Belvedere Palace Museum that houses Klimt's the kiss and many of his other works. It was fantastic and a really large piece of art. They had a bunch of Monet's and Van Gogh's at this museum as well. I guess Klimt was very inspired by both of them and you can see it some of his other paintings. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend going.
45:00 It was the subject of the painting's niece, who was the last surviving member of their family after the holocaust. The painting was displayed in an Austrian museum, and the niece did want it in a museum, just not in Austria, as that's where their family had been murdered
the swifties in broski nation quake every time she mentions her for 2 seconds
don’t bother me I’m having enrichment time in my enclosure !!
your wisdom speaks volumes. the way you can talk on the importance of art and what it reflects, the good and bad of history. it is not your job to educate, but my god could i listen to you for hours
5:47 I rose my hand so confidently and then slammed it back down so fast😭

This was genuinely a beautiful episode, lighthearted start with some very important messages at the end. I love hearing Brittany talk about art, history, sociology, linguistics idek man maybe it’s a Taurus thing, probably my fav broski report so far
as a taurus i second this!
@@candaceevans3424 ♉️🔛🔝
omg yesss i third this even if i really dont like art and history, brit can really pull u in when she speaks about it
Legit though the art history segment was fascinating and sobering and I was hanging onto every word.
I wanted to go see that exhibit so badly but I was going through a major depressive slump and didn’t want to go alone. 😭
Want Brittany Broski coffee mug. Need Brittany Broski coffee mug.

Can you do more art history videos again? I love them so much!! Would love to hear you expand on Klimt!
we are reading beloved in my english class right now, a book which is currently being banned in multiple states (btw which is ironic considering toni morrison won the nobel prize for that book). it is a very difficult book to read, but it is so incredibly important to read. the topics it deals with are heavy on their own, but it’s so much more knowing that this book is based upon what black americans had to experience during slavery and after its abolition. like you said, it is so incredibly important to learn about slavery and other dark parts of history. it’s the age-old saying, if history is not taught, we are doomed to repeat it.
I love when Brittany has these deep and important talks about politics and history and art it’s just so interesting to me and she is so articulate with her words and educated on the topics she is discussing. I wish she could be my history professor.
her ending with the movie robots is the best thing ever. THAT MOVIE IS DO GOOD
brittany's mind never fails to give me whiplash. she went from caseoh and kai cenat to dune and timothee chalamet like 💥THAT💥
FINALLY WE GET TO TALK ABOUT TIMOTHEE CHALAMET IVE BEEN A SECRET FAN FOR YEARS BUT IT WAS FROWNED UPON FOR SOME REASON. He’s so dorky and awkward in interviews i’m obsessed.
I was watching this while on the treadmill and the part where you were reading as fast as you can gave me so much anxiety 😂😂
And museum recommendation: Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston! It is STUNNING
when i watch broski report i talk to my phone screen like i used to talk to my TV watching dora
Just a note this isn’t a universal thing for all ADHD though
i loved the end of this episode sm. it is so important to travel when you can and just get out of your everyday cycle. for me it can feel depressing as well so i def think it is beneficial to go and see new things! also I LOVE little women, one of my fav movies and it started my obsession with timothée chalamet lol

One thing I love about Brittany is how funny and relatable she can be while also being so wise and intelligent. Great balance.

Her impression of astrology girlies at 24 minutes has me ROLLING🤣🤣 the voice switch up is so wild. And the “la la la la la la” I’m crying laughing

Adult teething had me cry laughing 🤣
