Much better than the first run through, quick and very clear. Hopefully you make another where you beat the rival :)
A few things: large resources are worth 5; rivals earn the resources equal to the number in the top right of their card before turning that amount in for their swordmaster (solari, spice, intrigue, water priority), which means it then costs 6 solari for human players; rivals don't get the alliance bonus resources; unless using the 'expert deployment' rule, rivals always put the max allowed into combat e.g. beast going to Arrakeen with signet ring (36:38) = 4 troops in combat (space + ring + 2 from garrison), this would also include any troops from their spy recall effect that turn.
Gameplay advice if struggling is to go for worms and swordmaster like that is your only objective, that alone will get you faring much better. If you frequently have over 4 troops in garrison you are doing something wrong, unless just before a conflict 3 or another specific reason. Faction access is hard to come buy so buying cards with it is important (and/or spy placement/access).
I also recommend moving combat markers as soon as you put troops in the combat and when revealing, as it's far easier to track than adding it up each time to assess everyone's combat strength.

Thanks for helping us out with the video! We're glad you guys have a keen eye out for any issues, we definitely want to make the watching experience worth while. If Kristina and I make another playthrough of Dune we will make those corrections and use that advice to pull a win for one of us. Again, thank you for watching and supporting the channel!

A comment was made about why second place gets "more" than first place. First also gets the card, remember, which can mean victory points, control of spaces, extra resources, etc.

What do you mean by control of spaces and resources? It only gains you victory point right? If you have doubles?

    • @BoardGameJunkies
      @BoardGameJunkies  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

When you happen to win first place during a combat some of the turns allow you to win a location such as Arrakeen or Carthag which means that if anyone places their agent at those locations, you will get spice or solari. If you played a worm you'd get double the victory points but only one flag at the city you won.

Great to see you 2 back playing the game. I haven't managed to get it to the table this week, so I'm enjoying your play through instead.
I loved the look between you 2 when you said no mistakes this time. :D
So should I point out a couple of things?
    - "Set combat strength" is part of the player reveal turn. You tally up *both* your troops and daggers at that point. You don't need to do part of it in combat.
    - 13'30"ish. You said you could bring up to 2 troops into combat. It's "up to all the troops you earned that turn, plus up to 2 troops from your garrison" (see pg 10). Since Sietch Tabr and the signet gave you 2 troops, you could have brought up to 4 in combat.
But I nitpick because of that funny look at the start. :) You both seem to be enjoying the game. I love it too.

It was on the list of games we wanted to do another playthrough of. Plus we needed to do our best to correct as much as we could. It's so incredibly difficult to film and play at the same time. @25:00 and one time before, didnt you play it wrong? Rival turn, card said battle icon and gaining troops, he sends the troops from the card, but also up to 2 additional garnison troops (if available) - said so on Page 2 at the middle of the page, "if a rival sends an agent to a battlefield/icon he sends in addition up to 2 troops etc" (sorry, i have the german version, but in english it must say sthg like that). Minor Rule: P10 of the rule book: “When a conflict card is drawn for a space that you already control, you receive a defensive bonus: You may deploy one troop from your supply to the conflict” So at the end when the battle for Arrakeen was drawn, you could have had 1 more troop in the conflict which would have tied with the Beast and therefore he wouldn’t have gotten all the 2nd place rewards and you would have lasted at least one more round.

My wife and I are also just starting to play this game. I noticed a few things though with your playthrough. The beast rival doesnt gain points, says on his card. Also the rival only goes after the "first player" not every time between you guys, just treat the rival as a 3rd player. You had the rival going twice per your once. Also the rival cant use resources to buy victory points until they have the swordmaster. Great video guys. It will definitely help newer players learn.

Min 25 the Beast goes to Research station. He gets two troops which you put into his reserve and then deploy two. When we are on combat space and get troops isn't the rule that we can deploy all troops we get + 2 more. So he should have deployed 4 in total?
I have just bought the game and wanted to see how to play a two player game but these mistakes make it harder for new players. I know that it is a complex game but I think when you make such videos you should make sure you've memoriesd the whole rulebook or just keep referring when unsure and cut out the pause

    • @BoardGameJunkies

Great video, watching you play taught me the solo and two player rules which were a bit unclear from reading the rulebook.
Some addition considering the placement of spies:
Whenever a Rival places the third and final Spy from its supply, immediately recall the Rival's other two Spies and trigger the Scheme ability on the Rival's card.
    Also:
Whenever a Rival has a choice about gaining influence, it chooses the Faction in which it has the least. In the case of a tie, use the Faction priority list at the bottom of the Rival card to break the tie: use the leftmost icon among the tied Factions
