vocalists are usually the reason people listen to bands that have lyrics to their songs. If I took over the guitar you'd never know there was someone else playing - it'd sound exactly the same, but if someone else was singing you'd notice the different sound
@@unholyXromance you are wrong my friend. Each band has their own style of playing a song, also a style of composition, otherwise never couldn't exist a lot of different artists.
A singer can make a great sound alone and Tarja is an example, that's why she no longer sounds like when she was in nightwish and I think she has no intention to do so.

The music won't sound different if there is an equally talented person playing the music. Of course different people are going to write different music. I'm talking after the song has been composed
Listen to a symphony orchestra, then listen to them play the and song 10 years later. If you can tell the difference then they're a bad orchestra
@@unholyXromance that's my point! When you sing something that another person wrote, you aren't singing what you are or your feelings. These are feelings from another person and each singer has their own personality, that's why Tarja's songs are different from nightwish songs, because now she's is singing her own heart and her own way, also she can decide how to sing.
The fact that Live Version sounds exactly same as Studio version. Tarja's vocal range and durability is truly magnificent. Opera level singer.

I've watched hundreds of Nightwish live videos. For me this is the Nemo's best live version by far ever performed. This is simply art.
This entire concert was one of the best Nightwish performances captured ever with Tarja. The only other one that comes close is Wacken 2013 with Floor.

I like all Nightwish eras but Tarja’s voice and Tuomas’ compositions were a match from heaven. It’s unbelievable how odd Nightwish makes me feel, I have no words to describe it, just that it can’t be matched... I miss those old gold times...
They were not the only grand band. Edenbridge is a year older and several albums more established without all the drama. EPICA is simply the standard bearer now for the past decade and did their 1000th concert summer 2018. If you google search TOTALLY FEM METAL CHANNEL I have more than 300 fem rock/metal bands past and present loaded in playlists there and MANY of those are better than Nightwish even with Tarja. I know thats a hard call but I swear its true. Go there and you will see.
kgtmustang thank you for your recommendation, yes I know A LOT of symphonic bands and many of those you mention but it’s a huge no for me. I’m even tired of sooo many sopranos in metal... there are very few I reaaaally enjoy, but no one compares to this Nightwish in my opinion. Tuomas is a genius and knew how to use Tarja’s beautiful voice. Even if Therion is considered the first symphonic metal band, I think there’s no other band that has as much impact as Nightwish honestly. But anyway, to each their own.
@@Annmaranth I once called Tuomas Halopainen Icarus and he laughed. Emppu and Marco did not. I guess my words were prophesy. There were some magical times in the early 2000's when this was all so new and developing. Then from 2010 - 2015 was a golden age in fem and symphonic metal. It was glorious and then it was over, mostly over. There are still glimmers of hope.
Edenbridge has just released ANOTHER FULL ALBUM = Dynamind. All their albums are B+ or better. Arcana & The Bonding were A+.
Anette Olzons new super band The Dark Element has just started releasing videos from album #2 from them. This is the worlds most veteran band outside of EPICA and Within Temptation.
As far as the old Nightwish.....I too got caught up in that after I was up to my eyeballs helping them with new girl Anette Olzon in 2008. I am very glad to have given that band an entire second life, but the guys there did not appreciate that and now it is over.
I can say that there were some excellent bands in that era. WT's BLACK SYMPHONY is totally an A+ from top to bottom and certainly in the top 3 stage shows I have ever watched. I strongly encourage you to look that up and watch the entire thing. When you do keep in mind that Sharon Adel performed this entire production for filming just after a major battle with illness and was/is far less than 100% and yet her amazing personality still shines all the way through overcoming a few clear vocal challenges she had at that moment in time.
Another grand one for me was/is Leaves Eyes = En Saga El Belgia /We came with the northern winds
They had a freakin Viking ship built for stage and the band played on it while Alex and Liv were on the front stage floor. For me that may have been the single best stage production I have ever watched.
OMG do I miss Leaves Eyes. Liv began going to a therapist for reasons undetermined and ended up having a sexual affair with him. Of course Alex was hurt badly and filed for divorce. Their son opted to stay with him. That left them in a very awkward situation where her singing for them anymore was just a struggle.
I knew them well and hurt for him. I told her later WTH WERE YOU THINKING????? Alex Krull basically worshiped the ground she walked upon.
For a moment I was completely in love with the ultra power persona of Manuella Kraller. VALENTINE by Xandria was maybe the single most powerful female vocal I have ever heard. Later Dianne Geirsbergen also ran with that as well as NIGHTFALL but that band as far too many have a MALE DOMINATED PSYCHE AND REFUSE TO ALLOW A FEMALE TO BE THEIR ICON.
Within Temptation knows that Sharon is THE REASON people pay to see that band. Mark Jansen long ago determined that SIMONE was THE REASON people pay to see that band. Both those are alive and well ongoing because of that.
I SORELY MISS AILYN and Sirenia. That band committed bandicide when they cut her out. For awhile she was working with an Italian band SECRET RULE but has since dropped out of sight.
I have been digging through all my written material in a vain attempt to find something she could sing so I could get her back into music again. Nuclear Blast + Frontiers would sponsor it. Hers is a unique voice and I havent written a song that quite fits her voice yet. I AM WORKING ON IT. I even have a band name and everything for us.
Some bands you may like: IDEAL ZERO /Orlando Florida with a Czech singer (Irena) and a mascot spider I was allowed to officially name = BORIS.
Their intro album is excellent and FREE AGAIN sounds so 20 something until the chorus which is amazing. I Will Rise is a haunting sonata.
Next I suggest VOICES OF DESTINY = another band with female issues however their intro stuff with the original singer was amazing see ALL EYES ON ME which was filmed in an abandoned insane asylum which matches the songs theme. The chorus vocals are straight out of Alfred Hitchcock.
RAVENS CRY is excellent.
As hard as it is to realize fem rock/metal has been among us for many decades and I actually rate Grace Slick as the very first metal fem from way back circa 1967 and Woodstock New York.
I am not alone in this deduction as 2018 saw that same event host TARJA TURUNEN there as a headliner where she debuted UNDERTAKER. I strongly urge you to look that up live as it is on youtube.
MY TOTALLY FEM METAL CHANNEL has over 300 fem rock and metal bands past & present and everyday I get introduced to another one and have maybe another 300 to add.
The group of the day I am into may shock you as they created a genre = GOTHIC BLUES. They are world famous grass roots and directly related to Edgar Allen Poe hence their band name = LARKIN POE.
Last year they did an amazing taped performance which is here under LARKIN POE LIVE AT AUDIO TREE
Vocally they are stellar. Totally hip and all original.
Recently I was going through their stuff to send samples to some people and within the next 2 days had basically written a gothic blues album although mine is much darker featuring works such as THE GRAVE DIGGERS BLUES.
I am very glad you appreciate Anette Olzon. You are not alone. She has many millions of supporters globally and THE DARK ELEMENT is doing well. Please let me know your thoughts after you go through those band suggestions. Almost everyone I have sent Larkin Poe to likes them.

Totally Fem Metal Channel as I said before, I know a lot of bands 🤦🏻♀️ I know ALL the ones you mentioned, no need to check them out. I love Sharon den Adel, she’s my favourite after Tarja! And I enjoy The Dark Element too, but, as I said in my first comment, for me personally nothing can compete with Tarja and Nightwish together, no other band have made me feel the same way this golden era does. But thank you to take the time to write such a long comment...

Tarja's voice demonstrates unparalleled power!!! It's not just the lyricism, but it's about its grandeur. Bringing a weight and aura to the whole band. Tarja is unique. Nightwish and Tarja were born for each other. Their separation undid all the magic demonstrated throughout their trajectory.

@@ChristianSander1969Well that happened many years ago and I they grew out of it. Tarja even reached out to Tuomas after his father passed away. That goes for show they might not be the greatest friend now but they don’t hold a grudge and they can be grown people. Tarja had lots of room to grow and so did the band and yet they both did. Tarja is having successful career with being Christmas tours, classical tours and metal tours and she is free to finally do whatever she wants. Nightwish will still remain nightwish so please don’t disrespect any singer because they made the music you listen to now. Remember if there wasn’t a tarja there wasn’t a nightwish only a soothing groove music band

I agree in part, cuz there are so many bands in music industry, with great singers and great musicians, but the music and lyrics are really bad... what I mean is that Tarja brought Tuoma's compositions to life.
And there is no lipsync and playback.. That voice is amazing..

If I could have but one wish in life, it would not be for wealth, power or glory, but that Tarja, Anette and the band to heal their wounds and do some thing in the memory of their assorted friendships. Even if it's nothing more than hanging out for an evening round a campfire and swapping stories.
Several who are or were in the band have some form of depression. Being able to reach in and let them smile for just one day, that would be the best thank-you I think I could gve to all the singers and the band. But I fear even a wish might not be strong enough to handle the bridges burned.

I completely agree. But I don't think it was just Tarja that contributed to this. It was Jukka, Marco and all the iconic band members' energy and playfulness on stage, you could tell they were having so much fun and putting out so much passion. Like for example I love how Emppu used to run around on stage and act goofy :)

Nightwish is still the most epic band, imo, Floor is a powerhouse, but maan oh man, Tarja's voice takes me places I can't explain, the nostalgia of first listening to Nightwish back then and be transported by music, just magical.
Again, it still is, and perhaps more mature than ever, but I do think that Tarja's days or something unique and special.

every player is exciting to watch and their music takes us away on a journey to restore our name when others would try and pull us down! For example at 3:17 the guitar solo where after some sliding octaves Emppu winks at the crowd while tearing into a chromatic blues bender lick and that is where some novice players can lose focus! ;)

perfectly and just living it. It's just such a northern thing to do, I love it, you go Nightwish, keep doing
what we love.
It's actually incredible this concert went so well, knowing that they fired Tarja basically as soon as it ended and most band members knew about it already.
This version sounds so much better than the studio version. Tarja's vocals are magic. Pure expression. I like that she has 'odder' phrasing here and puts the emphasis on emotion. Superb.
