It was built by the fifth Umayyad caliph Abd al-Malik (r. 685-705) or his successor al-Walid I (r. 705-715). Again, it is not our religious requirement or part of our deen to know or to find out when or how it was built. Likewise, we don't know what happened before they tried to kill Jesus or what happened after that. What matters is they "did not kill him". There are tings we don't know and don't need to know.
Bro, What you mentioned here is not Masjid Al Aqsa, The time period and name, Abd Allah Mallick Ibn Marwan and Purpose was for Pilgrimage Monument and it name is Qubbat Al Sakhra or Dome of Rock, Shinning with Gold Dome. Many confused it with Masjid Al Aqsa which is within 300 meter distance in same compound.

At the end of the day one should reconsider what the Quran say could be referring to something else, than a structure that was not there. Al aqsa mosque, not the one shown in this video with the golden dome, was built first as a small place by Omar bin khatab, then by umayad caliphate and finaly after destruction by the crusaders was rebuilt and named the Al aqsa mosque by saladeen Al ayubi.

Have you been there? You can clearly see that, like the temple to the Roman god, Apollo, in Baalbek, Lebanon, Solomon's Temple was built on a foundation of the largest megaliths in the world. Nobody claims that Solomon put that foundation in place.

Temple was not rebuilt but it was built by Solomon(Pbuh). and later it was again rebuilt by Zerubabbel. but if u see the history what historians says. for example the Black Cube (Ka'aba) was Built by Abraham and Ishmael(Pbu them). and there is the same Cube like Ka'aba in heaven. and the Angels circumambulating there anytime. this is the high level of Worship to God. same as in the time of Solomon(Pbuh) all the Israelites worshipped there to in temple to one True God. and when Prophet Muhammad(Pbuh) came then God gave command to worship in a Mosque. in the time of Prophet Muhammad(Pbuh) they called Al Aqsa to the whole Mountain where the Temple and Mosque existed. and now the Mosque of Al Aqsa exsit today. that's why it also called the firat Muslims direction of pray. Muslims were pray towards that Mountain of Al Alqsa or u can call it Temple Mountain.
