@Der Danny I think the props actually started out as military surplus guns from WW2 that LucasFilm glued sci-fi shit to. Han's blaster is a Mauser C96, the Stormtrooper blasters are Sterling SMGs, the heavy blaster Zanny unlocked is a Lewis gun, and the blasters used by the rebel soldiers are StG-44s.
Also a fun note: it's something of a tradition to base blasters off real world firearms, to the point even comic artists get in on it. One issue had short dinosaur people shooting clone troopers with laser P90s.
