      Fair play to Duncan. Renamed Bannatyne Music, he got some fun and took a big gamble and I believe his question and the answer on other businesses together with the fact they were smart enough to accept is why. He tested their morals and they passed. Great lesson , dont be greedy. Risk = reward. A small slice of a big cake can be worth more than big slice of a small cake. As Hilary said , a fair deal today can cause problems, problems that are easy to preempt once the risk is reduced, reduce the % once you got a hit. Both for shareholders and artists

      Keep in mind that an early stage talent, the promoter does all of the work in the beginning and most likely the artist will run away to a bigger label once he gets big, so a promoter needs to earn his take while he can and when they get bigger then can revise the contract or leave which people do. It is a dog eat dog world and the promoter is taking all the financial risk in the beginning hence the larger portion

    Musicians don't really make crap. These guys talk all this stuff yet couldn't produce 1 single music video for an artist to show the Dragons. Majority of the money labels give comes in the form of advancements, or a loan, to pay for touring, hotels, food, music videos, promotion, publicity, and marketing. Whatever is left over, if there is anything after the label recoups their loan, it goes to the artists as well as royalties. No one really buys music anymore.

    • @justanotherviewer4821
      @justanotherviewer4821 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True. I find their presentation very interesting as there was nothing suggesting that the music played weren't demos and management companies do mail out model shots. Any professional printer can get hi res photos printed. I think the artists were signed to a management company... and the 80/20 deal was either void or very thin based upon those artists releasing music through the label - and only such music the label have 80% of the rights over. In fact, if they were intending to send the artists to america to record music.... no wonder they agreed to it. There would be nothing stopping them networking, using that opportunity as a stepping stone and signing for another label for their actual best material.

    • @DevinsDen
      @DevinsDen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@justanotherviewer4821 Indie artists are better off signing themselves to their own label or llc. Yes I agree, granted there's labels that give them the stepping stone or foundation to get heard and build a wider platform base, but honestly no real label whether indie or major would be interested if the artist has no following, hasn't played shows, or tried doing things on their own. Though I have seen manufactured artists. ex: Justin Bieber, Hanson, NSYNC. I worked at a lot of labels in the past with some pretty big named artists here in Chicago. I seen first hand how musicians are screwed over. Its sad honestly.
