It’s like Katie Ricciarelli and Sarah Brightman had a baby: a big lyric soprano who sings way beyond her optimal limits and in as vulgar and over produced spectacle as money can buy. That amphitheater Turandot performance in Russia exemplifies this direction she took and at the very least all i can say was that it was certainly not to my taste.
Does it really require that though? Juliette is teenager and I prefer a voice who sounds like she could read as one. Not saying hire a tweety bird who’s all over the place, but my favorite voices who’ve sung this role are “Bubbles” and Battle…even if she was an awful human 😅
@@jenniferhiemstra5228 There can be improvements in terms of style but if you hear the orchestra size in the final act you may understand why this kind of voice is hired for singing this repertoire in bigger houses. As far as a teenager, following this logics you may also prefer a lyric coloratura soprano for Salome and Butterfly, but many would love someone who could sing the part and to be heard over the orchestra. A girl of 14 years old was considered as a bride at that epoch. She had different psychology comparing to contemporary 14 years old teenagers. Read what Stanislavsky said about it.

I’m mostly just thinking in terms of vocal color to suggest that they’re still young in the end. And yeah I tend to forget the orchestra is pretty sizeable later 😆 As for Salome and Butterfly, there really is no way around having any less sizeable of a voice for those roles, it’s just how Strauss and Puccini vocally composed. I myself, would never sing any of those roles, I’m a “Lily Pons” vocal type 😂

It’s round but there is no trill or natural wide lift. It’s all barreling long mouthed. The plush sound is attractive but it’s not as perfected as Freni. This is why when she moved on to the heavier repertoire it became moaned hollow and oversung. So many soprano types attempt this role. Most just over sing this entire aria. It is what it is.
Typical coment: To fart quietly and secretly and to run away. Always the same way, Salazar. It is time to step out and to confess that it is you who did id.
