Some people just stick cuttings directly in the ground and get them to root! So that air layer likely would have done well even if it went straight to the ground from the tree. That said, keeping them in a pot for a couple months allows me to pay closer attention to them and give them a solid start before going in the ground.
Hi great videos by rhe way ! i have alot of mulberry cuttings and after they starting blooming (because i took dormant cuttings) i transplanted them into a diferent soil medium. The only problem i think was, that they had little to none roots on the cuttig. Do you tihink they will not grow roots, adapt and die because of the fact that the had little to none roots at the time of transpalnting?
It's often a tricky balance between top growth and roots. I would gently clip any catkins that form and try to move them as little as possible while those fragile roots are forming.
Thanks to your video 👍👍🙏
so awesome! how and when do you transplant into the ground?

If taking dormant cuttings you'll need to provide bottom heat and keep the tops cool to promote root/callus growth
What medium do you use in the air layering pod?
Promix which is just a mix of peat moss and perlite with a bit of compost. I often add a bit of extra perlite.
So awesome.
