Just got my European doberman 1 month ago, she is 5 months old now...ive watched several video's on ear posting, this method is by far the easiest and safest for her...thank you so much for the video...
I recently started using glue because I am posting four puppies and they play so rough together that I couldn’t keep posts in for more than a day. So far the glue seems to be working, cross my fingers, I’ve only been doing it for a week. 🤞🏼
It depends on the dog and the size of their ear opening. I have medium and large. Medium is what I use most the time, but I have needed to use large on one dog. If the bottoms keep popping out then don't use a cotton ball and use a larger size backer rod. It can be wiggled down and sit snug. Congratulations on your new pup. 🐾 I've got three beautiful little girls available if you know of anybody else looking for a puppy. Details about the litter are on my website. dianasmith.biz
I use a liquid dog ear cleanser. It’s made specifically for their ears with pH, balanced and yada yada. You can find it at the pet store. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions once you start posting. 🐾
i've been looking into getting doberman for a few years now, and just came across your video. I think your boy has the same name as my son! Very uncommon name. Maybe it's fate I found you.
Im trying to post my female dobermans ears for 3 weeks now and she showed a lot of discomfort by shaking and scratching alot. as a result, the Hair roller i use, slips out of her ear every time. Have you had simular issues?
Yes, I did have a lot of issues with my young female scratching and her ear looked irritated with a ton of shaking. What solved it for her was using a larger backer rod, so it sat down in her ear more securely, and no cotton ball on the end. I also stopped posting as soon as I thought it was safe and now to keep her tips from being wiggly I use breathe right strips.
Yes i seen this method and it doesnt work on my european doberman he shakes his head way too much and hr takes them out and its all gue way in his ears but still takes them out😒
My doberman has some sores in her ears where the postd are in the bell of ear. What can and should I do? I see I needed to use cotton on the end of backer rod. Will add a sprinkle of gold bond next change. Looks kind of red in her ears to. Thank you for your guidance.
@@scotte10x I would just leave it alone to let it heal. Cleaning it too much or putting too much down in it will irritate things. The gold bond is fine. It should clear up quickly. Keep me updated and let me know if I can help at all. Thank you!
@@FunnyFarmHomestead thank you soo much! I'll leave them in until she pulls the off again 3more day hopefully, I ordered some brake cleaner and powder for the next change. I had such a difficult time getting the tape off her poor ears. I can't wait to try it I know she'll appreciate less time and pain during the process. Again thanks for the advice. God bless. P.s. your dogs are gorgeous!!
You could get the brake cleaner from anywhere, probably even a grocery store. Or adhesive remover at any tractor supply. I wouldn’t wait for posts to fall off, they could damage the ear on their way off.
@@FunnyFarmHomestead thank you again.dont think I seated the rods deep enough last time and my tape and bridge left lots of room for improvement. Yesterday was the first time i posted both. The previous ower showed me but i was captivated by my new puppy's eyes. One post she managed to get loose so i tried to reproduce what previous owner did on one side but she poped it out after a day or two. So blessed and thankful i found your video.I will get them changed in the morning.is Goo gone a suitable adhesive solvent? Ps I'll keep you posted!
@@FunnyFarmHomestead I got them reposted this after noon the looked beautiful then she shook he head an the bottom of rod popped out on one side again 😳. The other side is great.
Seems far easier than other videos I've seen. However, my 100 lb ten month old Euro dobie is so high energy, it would be difficult to tape Max just by myself. I need two or more folks to hold him still. Maybe I can get my trainer to do it for me.
Thank you so much I’m glad you found this helpful. My male was real fidgety so I always played ball with him first to wear him out. I also find it much easier as a one person job so they don’t get distracted by other people or move around trying to get attention from them. You got this!!! 🐾
I've only got experience with the one in the video so that's what I stick with. You'd have to research other powders on your own. Once I found one that works I stick with it so I haven't had to go and do more research. Good luck.
Does the starting fluid irritate them? I’ve struggled in the past with adhesive removers, I just got another puppy and I am looking for a great remover but something that doesn’t irritate their ears. Great video btw😊
They don’t like the sound of the aerosol can, but it doesn’t irritate their ears at all. It makes everything gummy, and it comes off real easy. You can put a little extra on cotton round to wipe the ears clean. Then before I put them up again, I clean them off with alcohol so there’s no residue. Happy posting 🐾
I have an imported female from Romania. They can’t crop ears there so she is natural eared. They are very heavy floppy ear. I can’t imagine this would work… But it couldn’t hurt to try.🤷🏻♀️
I have stopped putting cotton on the end of the backer rod. I noticed the backer rod by itself, sits down deeper in the ear and more secure with less bulk . After I post I go play ball for a little while to take their mind off of it. If they continue to have an issue with it, there could be something wrong so make sure nothing‘s too tight and there are no sores anywhere. You can also play around with larger and smaller sizes of backer rod to see which works best for a particular dog. Surprisingly, I have a puppy that is happiest with a large backer rod because it sits down in her ear secure instead of wiggling around like a smaller rod does. I hope this helps
Not true at all. There’s no American bloodlines in my dogs and a little white mark is just a small abnormality. The European breeder that I work with mentioned to me having it removed when his ears got done… so it’s not that it doesn’t happen with the European bloodlines … it’s that you wouldn’t see it because it’s not a dog that would be shown or the spot would be removed. I personally think it’s darling. 🐾
I wish I could attach a photograph with a reply because this dog has grown up to be absolutely breathtaking!! And his little white mark looks like about three hairs. If you know how to attach a picture to a comment, let me know and I’ll send it to you.
@FunnyFarmHomestead I have no doubt he's a beauty .love dobies so much just trying to clarify the s difference between European and American breeding . Such as a Fawn colored Dobie is beautiful but not European . I believe you mentioned he had a white chest spot early in the video . If I'm wrong i stand corrected. They're all so beautiful and intelligent. Excellent video.
No worries at all… I didn’t think you were criticizing. I just thought you were curious. I did mention a white spot. It was a spot when he was little but as he grew, it’s just a few white hairs now. You so much and communicating back-and-forth. I appreciate you!!
I don’t know anybody personally, but look around some Facebook groups and post that you’re looking for help. If I can help with questions, feel free to keep asking as issues arise, and I’ll do the best I can to help. 🐾
It totally depends on the dog. I’ve had a couple dogs that take a couple months and I’m working on one now that is a lot more of a struggle. The sooner you can get to posting and the more consistent, you are the quicker you will be done. The one I’m struggling with now gets 15 to 20 minutes of break and then right back into posting. Good luck 🍀
Europeans are generally larger and more of a working mentality. American bred Dobermans have a more slight build and different temperament. Google can explain it better than me.

I agree with this!! Best video I have seen so far! You make it simple and easy to understand. Thank you!!
@kjutter1976 thank you!!
Thank you for the informative video. Seems like the higher the drive, the harder it is to post! Wiggle wiggle wiggle,
Right!! I usually tire them out around the farm first 😂

Who does your cropping or tail docking? I ask because I just purchased a male from Italy with both
Dr Midgarden.
I don't wanna crop my dogs ears. Will this also work with it's natural ears?

Question if they have a white chest mark arent they most likely an american doberman as European dobermans are civered by very stringent color rules ?

No. 12 weeks is about as old as you want to have them done.

What is a European Doberman and how are they different from, I guess, American Dobermans?? Your dogs are beautiful, but, I’m confused. Thanks!!
