Ex Londoner who came to Adelaide a few decades ago. Lovely people, clean city. great entertainment and very fresh food from the sea and farms. Would not live any where else.
I came to Adelaide as a Canadian immigrant in the mid 1960s. I've been here ever since. I have been to all of the other Australian capital cities, and a number of it's larger towns. But I love Adelaide. It's big enough to be a city. But not so big as to be overwhelming.
Proud Adelaidian here, my ancestors came from England as free settlers. The majority of South Australians have a different accent to the East Coast states. As you mentioned that Adelaide has a gentleman feel our accent is more British than the commonly heard Aussie from other states. We are often teased about our posh accent. 😁
Victorian here. Yes I’ve noticed people here from Adelaide sound like they have a mild British accent. My daughter was there for a while many years ago and said, ‘mum you’d love, it’s more peaceful here’. Sadly my son has moved to SA, sadly for me lol, I miss him, but he said the same thing, it feels more peaceful here in Adelaide.
I live in the city of Adelaide and I love it! I can walk anywhere at any time and feel safe! I am close to the beach but have the convenience of living in a city.
Hi Ryan. My name is Raynboe, and I live in Adelaide South Australia. I have done all my life. The actual City of Adelaide, CBD, 26,000 people live in, but the surrounding suburbs of Adelaide, 1,400000 people live in. Compared to the other cities in Australia, Adelaide is one of the cheapest cities to live in, I also think it's one of the prettiest.
The original idea for footy was to give cricket players a game to keep them fit during the winter months, when cricket isn't played. Most cricket grounds are also footy grounds. Adelaide is a beautiful city.
I’m an Adelaidian Ryan and if you ever visit our wonderful country you should include Adelaide. We have the best food and wine. Everyone that visits kangaroo island off the coast raves about it. I’m proud to have been born here and love it. The Adelaide hills are wonderful to with the German town of hahndorf . Adelaide is Australia’s best kept secret and I hope it stays that way.
Hi from Adelaide :) Yes there are cities that are not on the eastern coast. You can definitely buy houses for less than 800k. Chicken salt was developed in Adelaide in the 70s. This is also the driest city in the driest state in the driest country in the world.
Thanks Ryan! My home town of Adelaide, opps, I mean Radelaide!!! 😅 Glad to see you reacting to our lovely town. Shoutout to any other Adelaidians out there!! 👋🫡 😍
Hey.... that's MY city :) In 1950, the population of Adelaide was 429,277. It is now estimated to be 1,379,280. If you wanted to buy a property, I'd recomend either somewhere in the lower Adelaide Hills, or near the coastline (not IN the actual city centre). When I was travelling in the US, I saw some of our quality bottles of wine being sold for $60-$120 USD over 10 years ago from South Australia... which today in 2025 you can get for $8 AUD (about $4.98 USD). Our wines are exceptional and considered to be at the highest level of "world standard" but for us living here are ridiculously cheap to buy (and drink). We are so spoiled for quality wine, that most of us living here forget and don't even realise it (until we travel elsewhere). South Australia (and Adelaide obviously) is leading the way and is at the vanguard of the global energy transition, lifting net electricity generation from renewable energy from 1% to 74% in just over 16 years. By 2025/2026, the Australian Energy Market Operator forecasts this could rise to approximately 85%. South Australia’s aspiration is to achieve 100% net renewables by 2027 (and it is currently looking extremely likely that we will achieve that goal at the fast rate we are going). Government subsidies for domestic solar panels and home batteries intallations (plus widespread localised suburban "powerhub" plans) are being heavily promoted and implimented across the state. In 2021, South Australia met 100% of its operational demand from solely renewable resources for 180 days of that year (49%). This video surprisingly did not mention "Monarto Zoo". It is the largest open air 1,500-hectare (3,700-acre) open-range safari park zoo in the entire southern hemisphere (and it is awesome). We have herds of critically endangered animals from other countries roaming free here without being in cages (HUGE fenced off areas) and which are completely safe from poachers and therefore increasing their populations. Also no mention of one of the best times of the year to visit Adelaide being during the "Adelaide Fringe Festival" (which is the biggest Arts Festival in Australia). It happens every year between 21st February - 23rd of March and it is probably the best time of the year for tourists to visit. International comedy and musical acts, special events, art, street parties, fantastic food from cultures all over the world... everyday for more than a month each and every year.
@@luadraponies Sure it gets hot sometimes (although this summer it's been pretty darn mild really). I don't think we've had even 4 days in a row above 35 degree celsius all this summer. We are meant to average about 8 days a year above 40. I think this summer we have had 3. And dust storms? Where in Adelaide exactly have you lived? I can't even think of the last time I saw a "dust storm"... a decade or more ago perhaps? And that wasn't even in Australia anyway.
Thanks Ryan, Adelaide is on my bucket list for retirement, everything is so accessible and the atmosphere generally relaxed! It certainly doesn't have the rugged history of Sydney and Hobart, but it has a strong European cultural identity and cuisine! I'm a 7th generation, a combination of soldiers, convicts, migrants, free settlers - all hard workers! 🙋👍
Hi Ryan, I've been watching you for some time now, and love your videos. Thanks for doing Adelaide - I was born and bred here, and after extensive living and travel on the East coast of Aus, have settled back here. It is a lovely city, with lots of things to do and see all year. The Fringe, which is internationally known and happens every year is worth a look. Cheers to you and your family. 🙂
Many years ago, my wife had been involved in a pretty heavy batch of work. A consultant with whom she'd been working suggested a break in Adelaide (we're in Sydney). We took up the suggestion, staying in a very comfortable motel in North Adelaide, just a few moments from the parklands and a short walk into the city. We had a great week there, and returned quite a bit. Our visits included quite a few Festivals. Then our son arrived, and our excursions ceased.
I'm a former Victorian who has lived in Adelaide since 1965. I did work as a musician in Sydney for seven years, but I thank 'God' that I eventually came back home. PS. One of my ancestors came out on the 1st fleet as a convict, but was eventually granted freedom and given some land in Tasmania. Ah, what and adventure.
I’m in Adelaide. My ancestors came from Germany and others from England in the mid 1800’s and settled in the Barossa. It was a “selling point” to get free settlers to come here. My husband’s family came earlier as convicts. He was born in the eastern states.

Proud Adelaidean here! Our beautiful city is like a special secret. People often miss it when they visit Australia but all of my international friends fall in love with it when they come over, even when they've been down the East Coast. We have beautiful beach sunsets, amazing food, great festivals and arts, and lovely wineries. It's a great place to live. I adore traveling the globe but always love having Adelaide as my home!
Good old Radelaide, lol, I enjoy going down there from the hills, its easy to get anywhere. I live in Hahndorf, 15mins up the freeway from Adelaide, the population is around 2.5k but we get over 1 MILLION tourists a year. I love it, but during summer there are times i look outside and realise theres no way to get out of town because of them all.
Just get back from a road trip to Adelaide. A short 4250km round trip via Broken Hill and Warrnambool. Best food and nicest wine lists in the country. Friendly people and awesome architecture. Hospo elsewhere can learn a lot from South Australia. Awesome place to visit. Will be back again. @Ryan, the 26000 population is the city center vs "Greater Adelaide" which includes all the suburbs. Unlike the Eastern cities, there aren't apartment towers in the city center. To give it perspective, Sydney Football Stadium could seat the entire population of Adelaide city twice over.
@buchinsku 😊 There definitely are apartment towers in the city centre and more being built as we speak. They are, however, not terribly tall by international standards. You are spot on about the 26,000 population being in the city centre. In Australia we tend to call our actual city centres "the City", whereas in the USA, it's called "Downtown". The city of Adelaide is surrounded by beautiful Parklands which are one Canon shot wide. The whole city was planned and laid out with wide streets by Colonel William Light.
Love my city, can't imagine living anywhere else. It's true. We are the only state that was settled by colonials. On my father's side, I have being able to trace my ancestors to the first settlers. Plus, pandas at Adelaide zoo and there's Manarto zoo with lions, giraffes and so on
It's not a bad city. Great outskirts as well. They have odd power poles, "Stobie" poles, made of iron I beams and concrete. Adelaide also had ridiculously hot and dry weather in summer, like Melbourne plus three Celsius.
SA is a great place. Has lots of hidden treasures all around and within a short drive of the CBD. Go further and you can go deep sea fishing, scuba dive sunken wrecks, cave exploration, or kayak along secluded creeks off the Murray river. Also has the safest family beaches right next to the metro area.

I’ve lived in South Australia all of my seventy years. I was born in Adelaide, spent my early childhood in Burra, north of Adelaide (no electricity, running water and only an outside long drop toilet) I moved to Gawler in my later childhood and teenage years, and later settled south of Adelaide in the Onkaparinga area. I’m now retired and I walk my dog every morning at sunrise at Port Noarlunga beach. I would not change anything because I have found “paradise”! Thanks Ryan for sharing that video, and Adelaide is actually better in real life. 💕🇦🇺
Adelaide Oval is a revered world famous cricket ground. And home of the Mighty Adelaide Crows. Its easily the most beautiful city stsdium in the world.
Live in Adelaide now, 1.4 mil in the state, 1 mil in city and suburbs, when you look for Adelaide you are getting the city centre only, not north Adelaide, south Adelaide or any suburbs, and yes afl is played on a cricket oval. 😉
Adelaide hosted the best F1 Grand Prix every year until Melbourne took it away. It hosts the round of the year ,that is not Bathurst ,of the Supercars championship. Adelaide also had 250,000 people turn out to see the Beatles on their hotel balcony in 1964. We also got some of Australia's greatest bands come out of Adelaide. South Aus. Elizabeth had Holden. Just some of the achievements of an underrated city and State.
It's a very "livable" city ... good public transport, Haighs chocolates ... and, well, has the spirit of a village, notwithstanding our population. otoh it is the birthplace of Rupert Murdoch and his first newspaper still carries on his "messages".
Adelaide restaurants can be a bit snooty though. Good friends of mine went there to visit a couple that they'd met overseas and they went to dinner at a posh restaurant. My friend's wife likes a steak well done, I can't understand why, but there you are. The waitress said that they didn't do steaks well done. Long story short, the chef came out to the table and basically called my friends wife a cretin and if she wanted a steak well done she should go somewhere else instead of insulting him. Of course, they all left. :)
The convicts may not have founded Adelaide, but plenty of ex-cons moved there. I have 16 convicts in my family tree, including three from the First Fleet.
Hi Ryan another Adelaidean following you. I’ve lived in both Vic/Melb. & NSW/Syd., during ADF service but my heart belongs to Adelaide. Immigrated with parents aged 3 fr UK, never regretted the move.
In Australia, Adilade is known as the city of Churches
and unsolved murders.
I am from Adelaide too . Bike race on at the moment . Tour down under . It’s an international bike race event. Look for some videos .
Live in Adelaide now, 1.4 mil in the state, 1 mil in city and suburbs, when you look for Adelaide you are getting the city centre only, not north Adelaide, south Adelaide or any suburbs, and yes afl is played on a cricket oval. 😉
Actually it's 1.4m for greater Adelaide and a bit under 1.9m for the state. :)
@@williewagtail405 nice work. 👌
I much preferred Adelaide to Melbourne when I visited.
I have lived in Adelaide all my life the place is beautiful come visit when you come down under. You are so funny
Everyone says Adelaide is boring, but it’s not. There’s so much to do here.
Thats where I live in Adelaide all my life. City of Church is the one most people called it and is a small capital city.
I was born in the suburbs of adelaide, veen here all my life barring 2 years, best and most underrated city.
Its home
Im from adelaide and I am german, british, and australian.
Adelaide has 1.4 million people. Proud Adelaide resident here. Adelaide, Australia's best kept secret.😊
My home town. Love it ❤
The convicts may not have founded Adelaide, but plenty of ex-cons moved there. I have 16 convicts in my family tree, including three from the First Fleet.
Came to Adelaide from Wales in 1991… so glad I did!
Same as Melbourne cricket ground, cricket in summer and afl in footy season
After Melbourne, Adelaide is my favourite city I've been there on several occasions including in my childhood
Adelaide is the best city (not biased) 😏❤❤❤❤
Hi Ryan another Adelaidean following you. I’ve lived in both Vic/Melb. & NSW/Syd., during ADF service but my heart belongs to Adelaide. Immigrated with parents aged 3 fr UK, never regretted the move. Barossa Valley (north of Adel CBD), Clare Valley (further north) & McLaren Vale (south of Adel CBD) wine regions are wonderful to visit. There are many interesting places to visit. Have a fabulous morning, afternoon or evening 🐨🦘🇦🇺
I’m going to Adelaide next Month for holiday
