  • This video discusses some of the best hospitals or regions to work as a newcomer or overseas nurse in the UK.
    You may be planning to come and work in the UK or living in the UK and wondering how to choose a hospital to work. It depends on what is important to you, proximity to airport, cost of living including accommodation, urban area or in the countryside. Others may wish to work in the top hospitals. Hospitals are ranked by the CQC in UK. You may also want to accept a job offer and after a few years of experience, you can search for what you want.
    There is no right or wrong way about it See links below.
    You may also prefer to look at the different regions paying attention to cost of living, average nurse salary and availability of jobs.

    I just passed my OET and I’m in a delimma of choosing the city for work, I’m 27 years and I was thinking of London but I’m afraid I might not survive, also I’m an ICU nurse here in my country for 3 years Namibia, but I know people do things differently there. I’m thinking of being a community nurse or a surgical ward nurse, but I do not know how they both work, please help 🙏🙏

    • @Beckysekyere
      @Beckysekyere  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @engeniasakaria7631, congratulations on passing your OET,I agree London is quite expensive so if you find anything outside London, that will be preferable especially for a beginner although some beginners stat in London.
      With regards to the job, I think theatre or surgical may be a good choice with your ICU experience. It is true things are done differently but you will be offered the opportunity to learn so don't worry. With regards to working as a community nurse, it is a good option too but you need to be a driver so see how you feel.

    Hello and thank you for the informative video. What's your opinion on joining St Mary's Hospital Manchester Oxford Street Campus. I am an NICU nurse looking to move to UK soon. I have read online that this hospital has the biggest NICU in UK so I am hesitant regarding the workload. Any feedback?

    • @Beckysekyere
      @Beckysekyere  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @user-Iz4qz6ju1n, my thanks for watching my video. I don't know much about the various NICU' s in the UK, but as you mentioned, it is one of the largest for neonatal surgeries in the country, which means they will likely have many requiring ICU. It .might be a good learning experience and a fast pace department for you but at the same time, it could be too busy.
      Cost of living in Manchester area is a bit reasonable .
      There are advantages and disadvantages in both scenarios but whatever decisions you make you will not regret it, even if you did, you can always move to another hospital within the UK.

The best way to check about cost of living is to look at accommodation or rent in the particular city by using zoopla uk and enter the name of the city or town and number of bedrooms to rent. @ Malcom V, once the nurse passes the OSCE and gets their UK Nurse registration they start receiving band 5 nurse salary. They don't take into consideration their overseas experience. That is sometimes the frustration some overseas nurses have because they may have 5 to 10 years experience from their home countries and they are paid as UK newly qualified nurse but unfortunately it is the way it is.

      www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/norwich-makes-sunday-times-best-places-to-live-7855468
      I am not sure about Wigan, but is towards the north near Manchester might be cheap not sure about the place. Royal Brompton is one of the big hospitals in London.
      You can't go wrong with London except cost of living which is higher but salaries are slightly higher to help make up. You can choose between Norwich and Norfolk hospitals and London

      @ Kathrina Park, thanks for watching my video. It seems to be an independent hospital and not an NHS Trust, they have different centres looking after people with neurological disabilities.

      @Anitah Valerie, thanks watching my video. Cornwall is a seaside town, I am planning to visit at some point. It is a holiday destination in the UK so might be slightly expensive but should be ok. I will search for cost of living there and send you a link. Look at the hospital website on the link below, read the cqc report and reviews to have some idea about the hospital

      @ Peris Muthoni, I think this message is for Anita so you can add @Anita as per her name so she can reply to you.
      The only thing I can say without visiting Cornwall is that it is a beautiful area, a seaside and tourist place. The downside of working in such places is that the cost of living will be on the higher side but you can do extra shifts to compensate. You can take it, work for your contract period with them and maybe move after that. There are others who will stay there because of the beach 😊
