I used this video this video today to take down & service my 50H for the first time today, I was a little nervous but it's back together and working fine, Thank you
This reel has been part of my kit for fishing Baja for many years. The Panga Captains all give this reel 5 stars for reliability, durability and smoothness.
Thank You so much. I originally found your channel when I picked up a Penn Beachmaster 155 from a 2nd sale shop. You help me services and replace a few thing by watching your videos. I just found a Daiwa Sealine 50H, so I knew right where to come. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and expertise.
Daiwa Sealine 50 H is the best conventional reel I've owned. I have several different Penn's which I do like a lot but this Daiwa has been my go to for yrs and yrs. Dont know why they were discontinued. Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
The 50H is one of my favorites on a very short list. Graphite changed everything and Daiwa went to those frames using them on the later Sealine reels to reduce weight and cost. They are still making good reels, but I will always be partial to the 50H.
Dennis - A great video like all of yours. What I usually do as part of maintenance is always put PENN blue grease or PENN muscle grease on the drive gear and pinion with all of my PENN and DAIWA conventional reels - if I do nothing else, I hit the drive and pinions with grease at the beginning of each season. Since I bottom fish, my reels don't get the same use intensity one gets with constant casting & retrieving of lures.
@@2ndChanceTackle This has become my lucky reel! Caught many good size GTs in the past few months, although the max drag is around 12lb probably because the washers are old, it works perfectly. Thanks Dennis and keep up your good work.
Great find! Now tune it up and take it fishing. If you need the drags or internal parts, I have a bunch for the reel. It is one of my all time favorites and I still fish one today - Thanks for watching - Dennis
You have quite a friend! In my opinion, the Sealine 50H was one of the best saltwater reels ever made. The high speed retrieve and the bullet proof engineering made this one to last a lifetime. Best wishes for great fishing with these reels - Dennis
I just bought one of these reels and love it! The only issue with it is the brake, it will not affect the spool until it's bottomed out and then it's very fine adjustment. Just a 1/16" of a turn and it's too tight vs too loose. I would appreciate your advice. Thanks
Not much you can do there. I would that the reel apart and check each side plate bearing. If there is a lot of dried grease on them, it may be limiting your adjustment - Dennis

Dennis another great video, I don't own one of these reels but I have a chance to get some for parts at great deal (these reels have nice looking handles). Question? Do this handle also fit Penn's 500, 200, 155?
I purchased a sealine 50h and the seller says he took care of it. I got it cheap and it sounds like it was dragged through dirt it a lot of wiggling to get it apart. The piece that holds tensioner came out with entire thing. What I could remove was nasty and gritty. But the tension threaded piece will not come off. I'm doing my best to not warp the shift

Or somewhere in storage I have a pink performance reel grease with Viscosity index 171 (Very High) with an operating temperature of -35F to 350F. Would either work or Cals is the way to go?
Hey! Real helpful videos man thanks for posting. I have a reel that looks exactly like that except it has a magnetic brake on the side, do you know what model it would be?
I don't - it is rare to have a mag bak on a larger saltwater conventional reel. If you send a picture to my email 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com I will try to help identify your reel. Thanks for asking - Dennis
Both would work well and are tried and true. I started using Cal's for drags and have stayed with it. If you have the Penn Precision reel grease and do not want to get Cal's for the drag washers, then go ahead and use the Penn product - Dennis
Awesome. This seems to be the closest I can get to the reel I'm trying to refurbish. It's a Diawa Magforce SeaLine SMH 250, and it looks to be built just like that. The problem is parts. All I really need to do is replace the drag washers, but finding the old parts seems impossible. Can washers for a newer reel, say a Saltiga 40HA be used in these things?

@@2ndChanceTackle I guess I should have specified it's arched lengthwise. I can't tell if it's supposed to be that way or if it got bent. If I sit it on a table only the ends touch and there's a gap all along
Those original 50H washers are very strong. They do not need to be upgraded if yours are not worn. If you like, Carbontex would be the next step. The original washers are thicker than the Carbontex, so you may need to add an extra layer in the drag stack if you make the conversion - Dennis
Your spool may be frozen in the bearing that is located in the bridge. Flood that area with a penetrating oil, let it sit for a while and then try to work it out - Dennis
I think they are pretty similar, given that there is a 25 year difference in technology. The main difference is that the current Sealine has a higher retrieve ratio. The original 50H reels were absolutely bulletproof. The newer one has stainless and bronze gearing, so that is good. Both have ball bearing construction. Both were star drag reels with good max drag. Let's see how the graphite case and spool holds up over time on the newer version. I still have a 50H and still fish it for big fish here in the northeast. - Dennis.

You don't have much to choose from in non-level wind. The Millionaire has a version as does the Sealine star Drag. There are also the Saltist and Saltiga, but those are deep sea, not freshwater.
