John GREAT VIDEO! I am writing to share 1 more thing with your followers...My Giulia has 53000 miles on the 2.0 MULTIAIR TURBO and I have driven it hard everyday all day in -30C and +30C. It shares the same powertrain as your STELVIO in the video...anyway the first thing I did when I got my car is replace the OE SPEC VARTA batter and installed the MOPAR PERFORMANCE PRO OEM GEL replacement....the 2nd thing i did from day 1 is turn off my start stop function...to anyone that will listen that function does more harm to your batter and your engine components than anything else you could ever do to your vehicle....TRUST me WHEN I SAY TURN IT OFF everytime you START UP AND GO and you will notice your car will run much much better with a stronger batter that will last you 7 years!
I had gotten in the habit of turning the off the start stop function each time I started my 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio for two or three years, then I bought a bypass that was easy to install that disabled it. It took me another couple months to stop starting to reach to turn it off out of habit.
Life saver just bought a Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio 2018 with 35k miles, electric throttle control came on after some speeding, did this and it was gone right away, thank you
Thank you for these very simple but important instructions . These batteries are very prone to give up though. I found the Stelvio to be the most reliable car I got in my life (Mercedes E, S, multiple Porsche 911 including turbo) and I'm at my second Stelvio, a Quadrifoglio now. Only thing in the Quad they changed the battery under warranty, still MOPAR but different, now it's a charme.
There is a lot of draw in the batteries especially with the start stop feature at traffic lights. The intelligent battery sensor will show a failure when it reaches 70% of charge capacity. Of course the customer thinks is a huge problem and it may not be so they get the car towed in or bring it into a dealer. There’s a direct relationship between the condition of the battery post continuity and check engine lights. Most of them are false flag events.
Thank you so much for the positive report! It’s such a simple procedure it’s so important because so much of the car depends on battery condition and continuity. Perhaps you can educate your dealer next time you go over there for a visit. You’re more than welcome to post your results on the Alfa Romeo USA Facebook forums
@@fiatofgreenville oh yes for sure, do you know why the battery keeps dying? I have taken my Alfa Romero to the dealer like 3 times and they keep telling me I need a new battery. I keep paying for a new battery and in less than 6 months, the car is dead again. If you know anything about this.. Thank you much.
Hi Jackie if the battery posts are now clean as you see demonstrated in the video the car should perform perfectly. There’s a couple of things to keep in mind, if you’re finished with the car for the day it may be best to bring the key inside and place it in a cookie tin or something that impedes the signal like an RFID bag. Remember the key is always communicating with the car. There are parasitic losses while the car is it sleep mode. One common error that many new owners make is accidentally leaving the car energized before they depart the car for the night. If you leave the radio on or an interior light typically they automatically turn off within 20 minutes. However if you push the on button on the steering wheel without your foot on the brake it will energize a car and it will not turn off by 12 and that’s the way the battery is drained on many occasions. Feel free to call me at the dealership to discuss further, i’m on Eastern time.
@@fiatofgreenville Thank you so very much for all your help. I think that is exactly what I been doing. I wondered why the car dealer wouldn't say anything to me. But you have helped me a lot. I was even thinking about getting rid of the vehicle despite how much I like it. Again thank you much.
thank you very much! i just bought a 2019 AR Giulia and it wouldn’t start after owning for 3 days. it was the battery posts being corroded. cleaned and greased and no more codes!!!!
Thanks you, sir! I have 37,000 on my 2018 Stelvio and yesterday the infotainment screen went off and the odometer is flashing-no battery change or dead battery in my car. Have you ever seen this one?
I have a 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio purchased in November 2018. One year after I got it the factory battery died in my driveway and I had to have it towed to the dealership because a jumpstart didn't work at first, and the service people from Alfa Romeo kept sending dolly trucks, but corporate customer service insisted on flatbed so it took a few days. When the flatbed got here they were able to start the jumpstart the engine, which is fortunate because they could drive it onto the flatbed, otherwise the transmission would've been locked because it was locked in park--I didn't know or have that pin you can insert somewhere underneath to unlock it. Anyway, they put another Alfa Romeo battery in under warranty and it has been working fine even though I might go a week without starting--the car which has under 12,000 miles (I used to drive about 12,000 miles a year 20 to 25 years ago). So that battery was almost 5 years old. Last week I took it to the dealer for an overdue oil change--overdue by time, not mileage. It's an upscale Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Ferrari dealership. Anyway they had it for two days and changed the oil and did their "world class inspection". I asked them about the brake fluid because the manual says to change it every two years regardless of the mileage, but they said it was OK and didn't need changing. I asked them about the serpentine, or accessories belt and they said it was OK also, which is fortunate that's expensive replacement job. I also asked them several times to top off the tire pressure to spec, and check the battery, etc.. The invoice says that they make sure there is no damage or faulty components anywhere in the car. The soundsystem unavailable warning light had been on for about a year but it seemed to be working, so I had have them check that and it was $320 to hook it up and find that there was a problem with the right front passenger door bass speaker which was blown--it was another $175 for the speaker and $600 for labor to replace it. Anyway, on the way home and when I got home I realized they had not adjusted the tire pressure. And just yesterday when I started the car after a few days the battery was dead. I was able to start it with a jump but it was late in the day to bring to the dealership and they would only do it while I wait if I bought a battery, which I would have done if I took it in the next day, but I drove to an AutoZone less 2 miles away--the female employee checked the battery and it was 55% and said Fail--I would think if the dealer had tested it they would have found something similar and they could have sold me a battery, but...Ibought a Duralast platinum gel battery specified for the car, with a three-year warranty. A 20 something neighbor offered to put it in--although he had some automotive experience, there was a learning curve for him, but he got it in after an hour or so. I gave him $60--that felt about right as it tip, I don't know. Another neighbor who has the scanning tool said he'd come back the next day, today, actually, after work and reset the codes. But I'm going to try the technique in your video. Most of the codes disappeared except the check engine light, and the drive modes are disabled. The neighbor with the scanning device also has offered to work on my car in the past (he has a similar category BMW) but I was never certain about him--he claimed to have been an Alfa Tech or certified for Alfa, but the other young neighbor who installed the battery said he never worked for Alfa Romeo. Yesterday after the batter was installed he looked at my brake pads and said he would order and replace them. The check working on my car in a video he made looking under the car on a lift said the brake pads had 7 mm and 8 mm and would be fine for a good while although there some grooves and heat spots on the rotors, but they feel fine to me when I stop. The neighbor said it was preventative maintenance and the dealers want you to wear the brake pads down so they have to replace the rotors if they get damaged. I think they could go probably another 8000 miles before needing replacement damage and isn't there some dashboard warning light and chirping in the break themselves? And I don't know if the dealers do it but the rotors can be refinished at least once. So another suspicion that the neighbor is just looking for work, trying to save me money from the dealership. Since I don't really know anything about his credentials I'd just as soon take it to to take it to an independent shop. One thing you mentioned about the dealers trying to sell your things from the codes. The neighbor said if it's anything that the code doesn't clear then he'd have to replace that part. There was nothing wrong with anything before the battery went dead. Update: I just tried the steering wheel lock to lock procedure in this video and it didn't clear the check engine warning. I'm going to see if the AutoZone store can do it.
I haven’t been able to reset the car every time I do the oil change myself (well my mechanic nephew) but now I have a bigger problem, my middle dash is off the one that reads your miles, all features on the car, etc (all digital) (above the steering wheel) what can I do before I spend so much money at the dealership? Please help if you can, I really do appreciate it. I thank you in advance for your help!
Desparate looking for a solution on my 2019 alfa romeo gulia base model, after the brakes replacement the codes on the dash wont cleared after battery disconnected, any tips would be highly appreciated Thank you
I have all the same notifications but my car’s motor is shaking really bad. It seems like almost to the point of backfiring. Then it turns off. Any advice?
Does this work to clear the check engine, automatic start/stop unavailable? I only got the check engine after I ran out of gas and got the error electronic throttle control warning light. I got gas, that error when away but the other two didn't and it's not allowing to let me switch into the other modes.
can not get these codes to go away. The car communicated with my Autel scanner when i started the brake job but when i try to go into recovery mode it won’t
Hallo I have the same problem with my tonale and with this solution in the video help not ,I think was have the same problems what is the solution you make it to solve this problem please thank you
No need to drive the car in order to cancel the codes. In some cases the car won't let you select drive , so start the car... Full left then right. Engine off....engine on and codes are cancelled. Codes will stay in the memory, but won't effect performance or anything else.
Well, the reason I call for driving it is because of the front camera and forward collision reset. All I know is driving a short distance and turning off / on clears all warnings.
I had a dead battery today and I called the road assistant, then took car to the dealer they said not a battery problem, they did not want to apply the warranty. I told them that stop/start is not working when I tested, and they said nothing to do, that all is fine. Any ideas about it?
John do you have any tip or so about Bluetooth, this is the 2nd time that my battery is drained due to the Bluetooth based on some comments I saw in the alfa Romero group. I have to call the road assistance again tomorrow morning.
I have a question that has nothing to do with this . maybe you came across this problem with another stelvio. my rear doors do not lock and the little red light on the buttons for the lock are off . when I press the remote control to lock the car both front doors locked but the back doesnt.
The unlock function is through the electronic control module or brain box in the car.. It’s possible that it may need to be checked and enabled. One thing you could do is check your settings to make sure the trunk opening is set at number four. The second thing would be to change the battery in the key fob which is a CR 2032. Many times you can tell if the battery is bad because it won’t work until you get close to the car. Try these things first before you go to a dealer and spend a bunch of money.
What if they don't clear? I have a 2018 Stelvio, I had to get a jumpstart and have a bunch of codes, and I did the turn on/off thing 10 times and turn the wheel to lock left/right but at parked not driving it.
Hi Kerry, I’m not sure if you actually did the cleaning procedure or if you just turn the car off and on 10 times? I never say to turn the car off and on 10 times, all I say is once you remove the negative ground and then reconnect it you will get a multiple number of codes. Driving the car resets the steering angle sensor so if the car is just sitting and you turning the steering wheel left and right that does not necessarily reset it nor does it reset the camera for Forward collision.
Typically you have to use the Y-tech FCA scan tool at the dealership. Unfortunately that’s the way they have the software unless you have a more sophisticated code reader it can’t be done.
