You did a great job editing the footage, especially the "Special Delivery" tie in because that wasn't even rehearsed. :) Have fun with the project and thanks for a great time in your home.

wyattoneable Wyatt you're a great man sir! Kudos to you for your diligence in making Eric so happy! And taking the time to inspect them and correspond and finalize the deal and deliver. Truly remarkable! Now if the true SMA junkies pitch in we can make this a $0 investment for Dr O. Icing on the cake!

wyattoneable total standup guy to help Eric O not only find this awesome Jeep but also transporting it right to his doorstep. I really like the fact that you took the time to really detail it up so it looked excellent for the big reveal! Thank you 4 all you do by supporting SMA.

+wattoneable Wyatt, you're a class act. I clicked the bell on your channel, It's gonna help when I try and do some very amateur body work on my truck. What makes TH-cam great is the way a small number of people like you who have the time and confidence and skill to give back.

Dr. O.; Thanks for the tour of the newly begun project! I have a graduate degree in adolescent developmental psychology; and I can say YES, you've lost your mind. I too have lost my mind. It was in 1996 (when I was young and pretty) after a substantial financial windfall I bought a brand new 1996 Grand Cherokee Limited; but with the 6 cylinder. ...And all the skid plates a boy could ever need. A grand snow vehicle. I was a city/highway boy, so my Jeep was more of a vehicle to get to historical, archaeological sites, triathlons, road races, or mountain bike events. 23 years and 240,000 some-odd miles later, one of our kids drives it in and around the swamplands in The South. Thanks for the great memories while you enjoy the process...!

Hi from Lockport! Jeep guy here also. My favorite Jeep that I owned was an 81 CJ 5. It had that 2.5 gm motor that I promptly blew up. swapped out the drivetrain from a 72 blazer that had a 350 4 bolt main. Drove that thing until the rust completey ate through the frame in the late 90's. Currently driving a 2014 Jeep Compass while restoring a 1985 Jeep Wagoneer I brought back with me from Colorado.

It’s funny how mechanics like us hate to work on our own cars. But when we get something new to us we have no problem working on it. You have put a lot of time into that Jeep already and now all these new parts. It’s gonna look nice when your done. I just bought an 06 Grand Cherokee for my wife to drive back and forth to work with a blown motor. Customer didn’t want to put engine in and I bought it for $400. I rebuilt a junkyard motor and putting it in next weekend.

Took me 7 WJ's up in MA till I found one rust free. I daily it with 4.0L with quadra drive limited trim and it bad on gas but wicked in the snow, was cheap to buy and own and with a small lift and good bf goodrichs rugged terrains tires it looks good imo. Yea they can have electrical problems, but its nothing more than replacing a few sensors, its quite reasonable matinence for a 15yr old Chrysler, just find a good one haha.

I just bought a 185K 2001 WJ last month, and I need to do a lot of those "piddly" maintenance things that we do when we buy a used vehicle, so I am biased, and I completely get what you're saying about not wanting to risk your channel getting bogged down on a single vehicle, but having those videos available on Patreon would have made me a subscriber to your patreon (would have been a first for me) instead of just a random donator via paypal. You're my favorite YT mechanic for a lot of reasons. Would have loved a detailed look at my car through your eyes (and skilled hands). Not trying to bust your balls, just saying it's something to consider in the future. Love your stuff sir.

I've only had 3 experiences with Jeeps
    1) family car when I was a kid. Total lemon.
    2) friend's now. Rides and handles like a brick on cheap parts.
    3) a 2019 I got for rental. Not bad, but seat sucked and my rear end hurt after just a 1.5 hour drive.
In short, Jeep can stay in it's lot as far as I'm concerned.

That's funny about the seat, I had one of these WJs, a 2000 Limited with the V8, and it had probably the most comfortable drivers seat(never rode or sat in any of the others lol) I've ever had in a car. Unfortunately I lost it last winter, lost traction into the other lane on a 2 lane rode, and a big Dodge was right there waiting for me before I had a chance to correct. Anywho, yeah, I LOVED those seats.

Great Jeep that you were able to obtain with Wyatt’s able assistance. I appreciate the list of things you had to check out and fix on a car this old. Even though it has no rust and looks great, it helps to know that there were still quite a few things that had to be done to make it a daily driver, things that would typically have to be done on any 17 year old vehicle that one bought, no matter how good it looked or drove. Thanks for just telling us about it, instead of videoing ever step - most of us look forward to the “good stuff.”

By the way, I had a '94 ZJ with a 4.0L and the NP242 t-case. Had it on 31" BFGs and 2.5" lift. I also installed a Aussie Locker lunch box type locker in the rear. (I didn't tell anyone about that) When I went off roading there were a lot of sneers since at that time nobody offroaded a Grand Cherokee in this area. Needless to say the way it preformed surprised everyone. Man I miss that Jeep.

  • @AKJeeper

Nice WJ!! You never see them in that great of shape up here in AK! I've always had a soft spot for Jeeps...mostly because I cut my teeth as a mechanic working at a Jeep dealership in the 90's. ZJs and WJs are among my favorite of the Grand Cherokees...they're from a simpler and different time...and can easily be built up to have the off-road capabilities of a Wrangler. Like you, life happened...I no longer have any Jeeps, but I'm hoping to change that sometime in the near future. Thanks for sharing!

My wife has a 2002 W.J. The front seat heater on the drivers side went bad. I removed the upholstery and found the wires going under a metal bar had worn through and burnt the foam. I spliced the wires and ran them through a plastic tube and taped the hell out of them. This was about 70,000 miles ago and it still works.

    The 2001 Grand Cherokee's with the factory tow package has a Trac-Lok Differential Rear Axle with a 3:73 ratio. I also have a 2001 Grand Cherokee 4.7 but it's not 4WD. It has the tow package like yours and it really has a lot of power. I had some problems with it, valve seat came loose, transmission lost 3rd gear a few smaller problems but I really love it.     Hey young man;
Your a huge help to a lot of people.
I have been trying off and on since I purchased last Dec testing a crank no start NO Buss issues with my 1999 Durango 5.9 watching a ton of vids.
All I have is a test light with some knowledge, however I am at a point where I am test confused and going in circles.
Previous owner put in fuel pump and it ran for 67 miles and died. I have found and fixed damaged wires, solved issue with a crank sensor that last was put in wrong before he gave up on truck and I bought.
It now cranks and will start with a shot of carb cleaner or a splash of gas. I have fuel pressure but no injectors function.
In your vast network of knowledgeable buddies do you know of one close to me here in Fredericksburg Va that would come or I can tow to them that can get me over the hurdle?
Of course I'll gladly pay for their time.
    Best; Tom

I own a WJ with the 4.0. Best car I've ever had so far. I've had it for two years and have put over 30k miles on it. Its at 217k miles now. Has never left me stranded besides when the battery died a month or so ago. Seeing that beautiful frame makes me so jealous. I struggle doing my own repairs because I like dead in the middle of the rust belt and there is no lack of rust in the common spot. Doors, tailgate, a little on the frame, not bad but it's there. Areas on the hood are rusting Haha. I wish you luck with this Jeep. It's amazing and I would kill to have a Jeep like this. Awesome!

I've been rebuilding a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 for 2 years now (not a mechanic!) and I'm envious! I ended up tearing it down to the block, getting both heads rebuilt with new valve guides etc, new water pump, replaced some power steering lines and most of the radiator hoses, upgraded aluminum housing for the temp sensor, new IAC and TPS, crankshaft position sensor.
Brakes and rotors all round, flushed the brakes and power steering, new shocks all round, replaced the front springs, fuel pump and fuel filter...
Finally at a point where I might get this thing officially on the road!
Then all the upgrades can start 😂

I had a '51 M-38 Jeep back in the 1970's and '80's. Installed the Buick 225 V-6 (marine version), Borg-Warner T-10, Warn Overdrive to go with the original 5:38 gears. A;sp put om the GM steering box and reversed the front spring shackles. It had the two handled transfer case model 30 I believe. Loved that Jeep. Customized the entire dash with manufactured rosewood and SW instruments. That CJ8 is a rare vehicle today and lots are looking for one to own.

My dad and uncle had brand new cj5's and when i was of age i ordered a new TJ sport 6cyl but always loved when the 99 Grand Cherokee came out with the killer 4 wheel drive .

Very excited for this Eric, my friend has 99 GC that he loves same engine! He has been wanting to trade it in and i've been telling him to keep it and do something like this to it. He's done all the little stuff to it already so this should be fun to watch!

Eric, your a beast! Those Jeeps are pretty good. My wife has a 99, and she (my wife) drives like sh*t- and it's (Jeep) still kicking. Besides the passenger rear window rolling down when she starts the Jeep and the overheating issues ONLY on really hot days...its a trooper!

I notice we often have the same mindset from your videos. Like you I am a Jeep guy, true right now I am hunkered down to a Town & Country touring minivan sporting the kid around. House payments, and such. But one day again, I am going to get me another Jeep. I miss my Cherokee, as a Michigander it's the perfect auto really. Especially for camping. Something we love to do.

Are ya gonna wave at Wranglers? Guess if you lift it and go w/33`s you`re worthy of a wave back. I got my Cooper 33`s for $755 a couple years ago. They have nice lugs and are quiet. Good luck with the new ride, Eric.

Not a big jeep fan but then again when you get done it really won't be your normal run of the mill Chrysler Fiat jeep. I liked them when Jeep was Jeep. But still looking forward to watching the upgrade videos. Have friends who are big jeep enthusiasts and wil turn them on to your channel. Let's get it shimming up the mountains and thru the trails to Grandmas house. 👍👍

Hi Eric! Just found your channel the other day and I wanted to say how much I'm enjoying it! I think you're living proof that the best technicians are sometimes at small independent shops. Keep up the good work and enjoy the new Jeep! P.S. Living on the west coast, the rust you deal with is totally foreign to me!

I wouldn’t exactly rank “pull the dash” as “piddly”

    • @phillanassa759
      @phillanassa759 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

With air tools, it's a long afternoon job, maybe 5 1/2 hours, once you've got one or two under your belt. Takes longer to pull the evap./heater box and upgrade-repair the actuators and blend doors (evaporator if it needs you are right there after all) than pulling the dash and steering column. Helps to get the center console out of the way, and the drivers seat as well.. All in a days work when I worked for Jeep/Chrysler

You know what I love about Eric O?
He says "H-vack" and not "H.V.A.C."
Why do so many other American car channels insist on saying four syllables - "H.V.A.C" - when they could say two?

Only one question: When will you have time to put all of the goodies on? Between 12 am to 4 am, this should give you an hour or two to sleep. You enjoy, you've earned it, you work hard son.

Got a few guys here dissing Jeeps, but FWIW, my 98 XJ Cherokee with 4.0 has almost 300k on the clock. Still runs strong, tranny works flawlessly, 4wd still works like it’s supposed to, and all the electrical stuff does what it is supposed to. Original drivetrain too! And it even did duty as a plow truck for a while.
