How did the Bolshevik faction become the majority in the Petrograd Soviet? It's very simple! The Soviets were elected from labor collectives and soldiers' units. As soon as people felt that the deputy did not express their will, they immediately held a meeting and re-elected the deputy. The Bolsheviks proposed: peace with Germany without annexations and indemnities, to lease land to peasants fairly, to introduce an eight-hour working day, vacations and a collective labor agreement for workers. Abolish estates and privileges, hold a Congress of People's Deputies and make Councils the main form of government. And voila! The people followed them. By the way, the first two laws passed by the Bolsheviks were: the Law on Peace (a proposal to put up with Germany and Austria-Hungary on the zero option) and the law on land - where it was prescribed to divide the landowner's land by consumers.
I’m sorry to say but Cossacks were not “semi-nomadic”, they were a class of peasants who had additional obligations (military service) in exchange for larger freedoms and privileges compared to other peasants. There were no Cossacks in Ukraine by that time, but they lived on the Don, Kuban, Ural, Orenburg and other historical borderland regions of Russia. They did not want “independence from Russia”, they also participated in the civil war on all sides, but favoured the Whites (the monarchists) more. I can refer you to a great Russian novel of 20th century, a Nobel prize winner “And quietly flows the Don” by Mikhail Sholokhov, it is exactly about the civil war and the Don cossacks

The respected author of this video reread the fantasy, otherwise how can you understand that twenty-five thousand Bolsheviks captured the one hundred and fifty million former Russian Empire. How the Bolsheviks started with the Red Guard (detachments of workers) and sailors, and ended the war with a five-million-strong united army.
1. I had to pause and rewind so much to fully understand the depth of the conflict. 2. How did the Red Army even win with so many fronts and different enemies, wild. 3. White Army would have won so easily if they just worked together from the start. 4. Just when I thought all the nonsense was finally over, here comes Stalin... Unreal explanation, thank you.
Fantastic video! Ive been reading about this war for a while but this really nailed the explanation, with all the big characters and the map to comprehend the territorial status. Congratulations! I also want to watch your South American wars of independence videos. I have waited for so long for someone to make good videos about them, they're so interesting! (And I'm south American myself 😅)
I am a professional historian from Russia, I study the period of the Russian civil war and the 1920s. This is one of the best and most accessible videos about the Civil War, and in English! Bravo! Of course, many details are omitted here, but it is impossible to mention them all in a short video: a separate Civil War took place in each region: in Ukraine there was complete chaos, in the North Caucasus and in all 3 Transcaucasian republics, in the Baltics and Finland, in Turkestan and modern Kazakhstan, in Siberia, and there was also the Japanese intervention, the internal war between the Red and White Cossacks, attempts to spread the revolution to Iran and Poland, support for European communists in Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria. 2 fundamental comments: 1. The entire "democratic counterrevolution" is omitted, except for Kerensky - moderate socialist or liberal governments that were against the Bolsheviks and were not white conservatives. These are all national governments (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Alash-Kazakhstan, Turkestan, Ukraine, KOMUCH in Samara, Ufa Directory, Tchaikovsky's Northern Government and others). These governments received support from the Entente countries or Germany before the Whites seized all power. It was because the Bolsheviks were internationalists that they were able to find support in all national outskirts, although their main fighting force was Russian peasants. 2. In my opinion, there was a bias towards the White leaders, of the Reds only Trotsky is mentioned, although Stalin recaptured Tsaritsyn from Krasnov (for which the city was later called Stalingrad), and there were also such commanders as Frunze or Tukhachevsky, the head of the Comintern Grigory Zinoviev, the Red Terror was led by Yakov Sverdlov and Felix Dzerzhinsky when Lenin was wounded. In general, the Red leaders were charismatic and interesting personalities.
Amazing video ... Absolutely brilliant Covered so much in such a short time. I was looking for a informative video on this topic for so long. Cant thank you enough👏👏
Well a lot of the chaos of the chinese warlord area was the direct result of the russian civil war with many former white russian soldiers fighting in the chinese warlord armies...
great video, deserves more views. im surprised at how little knowledge about this war ive absorbed in my life, despite it being very consequential and interesting.
Well done! A video on the events that led to the rise of power of the Bolsheviks would be fascinating. Especially as it pertains to the similarities of what is happening in the USA at this time.
Since WW2 a huge number of Russians had been fighting with Germans against Bolsheviks. Some of them were just cowerdly, but a lot of Russians had been fighting for Freedom of Russia. Other than that, the name of their army was "RLA"(Russian Liberation Army) that was operated by Andrei Vlasov who was a great commander in Soviet Army before 1942. To my mind, that was a completely dreadful moment in history when people from one nation were fighting against each other
If majority was against Bolsheviks - how could they possibly take control of such territory? This video is generally very informative, but quite biased if we look closer.
Actually, the majority was indeed against the revolution, or at least the communist Bolsheviks. Most of the peasants in the rural areas supported the Left SRs and most of workers in factories formed their own green armies which fought against the Bolsheviks. Most of the white armies were also welcomed as liberators in captured areas due to the ruthless and incompetent policies of the Bolsheviks, which caused even the leftist youth to side with Denikin's Volunteer Army in areas such as Kuban. This was actually one of the main reasons the Bolsheviks came so close to defeat by mid 1919, they had completely alienated themselves from all their allies and antagonized their government, which caused them to be surrounded by enemies. Even the so called 'proletariat' was sick of the regime merely a year after they took over
@@ZS-rw4qq I have to keep it short due to the Channel's comment restrictions that delete my comments. There were many more complex factors that I am not able to explain because of this. The major factor was the fact that the Bolsheviks vastly outnumbered their enemies in terms of industry and population. They controlled the major industrial areas in the center of Russia, which allowed them to raise their army from around 800k to over 3 million in less than a year by 1919. The Bolsheviks also had very efficient methods of repression in controlled areas by using secret police agencies, so they could easily clamp down on any internal opposition and make sure that their rule remains stable, unlike some White governments, which weren't competent enough to form their own agencies or implement policies to prevent those issues. By early 1919, foreign support for most of the White Movement began to limit, and a lot of Whites desperately relied on shipment of weapons, which allowed the Bolsheviks to keep supplying their armies with reinforcements, while the Whites were running out of ammunition. One of the most important reasons was also the lack of effort to co-operate between the Whites and to present the population with an acceptable vision of future Russia. The Whites were very diverse and their ideological vision varied, while the Bolsheviks had a clear program for Russia that they widely presented.
Didn't manage to watch till the end, but I definitely will. Suggestion - drop background music to some 5 or 6 dB more in your next videos... Especially if it is epic music...
Hello, this is an interesting video about history, I hope you continue to make more battles about the Spanish American Wars of Independence and make a video also the Brazilian War of Independence it is very interesting learn more about the history of Central and South America. Love you videos greetings from The Philippines❤❤❤.
Did my disitation at Uni on this one and still would say it was one the most complicated civil wars you can study. Add foreign powers and it is has to be studied area by area. Ukraine is by far the hardest to follow with Germans, Austrians, French, British in the mix of independence groups, anarchists, monarchist, left social revolutionaries, bolshevik and bandit warlords. Cities changing hands a number of times weird alliences with betrayals. Bloody and pitiless with more to come whoever took over.
Both sides apparently tried to ‘out-psyche’ the other by inventing even worse torture methods than their opponent. This is how we got the Red and White Terrors. The people of Russia were absolutely brutalised in this war, with the leaders (Lenin, Trotsky, Denikin, Kolchak) having very little regard for human life. And so suffering was immense. Bearing in mind at the same time as the frontline war between the Whites and the Reds was taking place, the Bolsheviks had launched their war on the peasantry, a horrific campaign which basically terrorised the civilian rural population of Russia due to the fact Lenin saw them as combatants.
That was it. The tragedy would go on for Russians whoever won as it was the survival of the most brutal. Trotsky introduced decimation into the army something from the Roman empire. Any group who could have brought a real end to it was crushed and if lucky gone into exile. Civil wars are the worst of wars but this was the worst of the worst.
It is obviously incorrect to put Lenin in line with war criminals Krasnov and Kolchak. Kolchak and Krasnov are regarded as war criminals even in today's anti-red Russia. Lenin is not a war criminal and no court in the world gave him such credit. I urge everyone to stay calm and beware of mass-media propaganda. Use common sense and do not fall for lies!
Why no mention of the critically important Jewish role in establishing the Bolshevik regime? The following lists of persons in the Bolshevik Party and Soviet administration during this period, which Wilton compiled on the basis of official reports and original documents, underscore the crucial Jewish role in these bodies. These lists first appeared in the rare French edition of Wilton's book, published in Paris in 1921 under the title Les Derniers Jours des Romanoffs. They did not appear in either the American or British editions of The Last Days of the Romanovs published in 1920. "I have done all in my power to act as an impartial chronicler," Wilton wrote in his foreword to Les Derniers Jours des Romanoffs. "In order not to leave myself open to any accusation of prejudice, I am giving the list of the members of the [Bolshevik Party's] Central Committee, of the Extraordinary Commission [Cheka or secret police], and of the Council of Commissars functioning at the time of the assassination of the Imperial family. "The 62 members of the [Central] Committee were composed of five Russians, one Ukrainian, six Letts [Latvians], two Germans, one Czech, two Armenians, three Georgians, one Karaim [Karaite] (a Jewish sect), and 41 Jews. "The Extraordinary Commission [Cheka or Vecheka] of Moscow was composed of 36 members, including one German, one Pole, one Armenian, two Russians, eight Latvians, and 23 Jews. "The Council of the People's Commissars [the Soviet .government] numbered two Armenians, three Russians, and 17 Jews. "According to data furnished by the Soviet press, out of 556 important functionaries of the Bolshevik state, including the above-mentioned, in 1918-1919 there were: 17 Russians, two Ukrainians, eleven Armenians, 35 Letts [Latvians], 15 Germans, one Hungarian, ten Georgians, three Poles, three Finns, one Czech, one Karaim, and 457 Jews."
So called "Bund" was in opposition to Bolsheviks. Overall, you seem to be misled bu the "Bolshevik-Jew-Zionist" myth that was invented in early 80's to assist in dismantling the USSR. Falling for such lies in not a common sense! Beware!
Jews weren’t a monolith and there is no mention of the “Jewish” role in the bolshevik regime because it is a misconception spread by nazis. The conflict was a first and foremost political. Jewish people played roles just as non jewish ones did.
There is no mention of the “jewish role” in establishing the bolshevik regime because it is at best a mischaracterization and at worst a right wing conspiracy used to try to delegitimize the Russian revolution. The problem with your source wilton was that he was a conspiracy theorist who blamed the death of the Romanovs on a jewish plot. One major problem is that the Romanovs were hated by more than just jews by this point so the idea that the romanovs were killed just because of the jews doesnt make any sense. Jews werent a monolith and many were loyal to their countries over judaism.
This is typical for western "historians" that were taught by "correct books"... Good thing is - history is not about the past. It is about the future. And the future is almost here...
How did the Bolshevik faction become the majority in the Petrograd Soviet? It's very simple! The Soviets were elected from labor collectives and soldiers' units.
