Pretty badass stuff in this video! This makes me want to stuff a Toploader in my early bronco as I hate how wide the ZF5 ratios are that are in it now. I wish somebody made all the modular counter gears and steeper ratios for Toploaders as they do Muncies. Guess a Wide ratio Toploader already has a 2.78 first.
You can buy 4 speed toploaders already set up for a Bronco with both close and wide ratios. You could get a 3 speed toploader from the factory in them old truck.
use a jeep t176 or t177 its basically a top loader with a better shifter and 3.52 1st ratio t176 or 3.82 t177. or better still use a t18 with 6.34:1 1st.
So many adaptors... i have a saginaw 3 groove input with an AA texas patern kit on it in my 1944 gpw, and its way shorter!! Still love the videos man!!
Paul, You blaze through these overhauls like you just seen the TH-cam video this morning. I like all your material, Man, How many Gear boxes would you estimate youve been into? The best I've ever seen.
+Skeefoo Panama The average builder who works at a transmission shop chain probably has built more transmissions that I ever did. I would say the difference is that most of the transmissions I build are new units. Currently I'm in the 4000 range.
So in order to place a SM465 in replace of a T4/T5 I would need this adapter for a Dana 300 in 4.2 I6 in a 85 CJ 7? I was reading on Novak stating it would mount up no problem?
Paul, your RedLine gaskets are impressive. I can't imagine using anything but those gaskets for sealing! Awesome. Btw, did you ever replace the old Craftsman torque wrench? Ciao.
+Mario Dalla Riva I would like to get one of those 3/8 digital Snap On wrenches that has an LED display and audio feedback, yet its a little out of my price range.
+GearBoxVideo as soon as I win the lotto I'm personally gonna deliver you one ;) in Canada, we get to keep the full amount tax free! And I know two people that have each won over $1Million. Mind you, today that's about US 50bucks 💀
A smarter design would have incorporated a new Mainshaft to make the whole assembly shorter. It's way too long, presents fitment and driveshaft angle issues in stock replacement applications.
Hi paul, i have a couple of stripped thread on my case. do you recommend a heli coil or time sert which is stronger, it's for the trans mount bracket thanks awesome vid.
why are you using grade 5 bolts on rear of the transmission, and grade 8 on shifter cover.. regardless of if the 5s will hold, I'd use 8 on the rear as well..
+joel unknown The 5's are what come with the Advance Adapter's kit. The other hardware is the standard grade 8 I use on my other Muncie builds. I purchase hardware in large quantities and since I do not build many of these there is no point in me stocking 500 of each size when the ones supplied with the kit accomplish the task.
Sounds like quite a bit of modifications are needed to make this work. I would think Advanced Adapters would have done all the work/mods at their shop.
@@GearBoxVideo can you not retrofit the lower first gears into an existing transmission? I have an M22 and the AA adapter already in the jeep - just lusting after a lower first gear.
As usual , I am looking forward to it, got my box all apart and cleaned, now on to the dressing up of the gears , and re-assembly.M20 going into a 1960 CJ5, with a small block Chevy power plant. Between you, Herm the overdrive guy , and "metalshaper, I will be complete on my driveline very soon. Thanks again Paul.
As always Paul, an excellent info with detailed tech. Keep it up!!
John Smith Thanks

Great video!!!!!! Very good information and detailed work.
Thank you

It’s too bad AA stopped making the Saginaw conversion
awesome attention to detail! liked and subscribed.
Thanks

I'd still want to buy one from you anyway, Paul where can I find the prices on your stuff?
+Skeefoo Panama my website. www.5speeds.com

Thanks again
Great video! Any chance of doing a T18 rebuild that is also a very common Jeep conversion.
Send me a transmission and I will do one

I do not know Novak products so best to contact them.
great videos! can i get adapters and run a np205 behind a m20? Id like to replace a sm465 in a restored 4x4 1970 gmc pickup

Teşekkür ederim harika video 👍👍
Great video! I was wondering on your thoughts of Gear Venders under/overdrive system used behind a Muncie.
+Gassernorm Long I don't like them. Its a poor design, takes up too much room and not worth the money when you can just get a 5 speed.
A smarter design would have incorporated a new Mainshaft to make the whole assembly shorter. It's way too long, presents fitment and driveshaft angle issues in stock replacement applications.
Lol. I’ve never seen a box opened like that Paul
is that fit on willys mb cj2a jeep..??
Great video! Do you know the total length of the trans and the adapters?
Not off hand. Contact advance adapters
Hi paul, i have a couple of stripped thread on my case. do you recommend a heli coil or time sert which is stronger, it's for the trans mount bracket thanks awesome vid.
I always use heli-coils.
yes this is good demonstrations

+GearBoxVideo 10/4 I agree, was just wondering and making an observation, thanks brother.. I like your work..😎

That's why they have me. A lot of this has been corrected.
What would you charge to rebuild mine w it’s the new gearing?
Im not doing rebuilds
Hey Paul are you still doing these builds?
Not any more --- no parts
If a guy was to do the new 2.98 1st gear, this would be a great transmission for an old Willys
You can build a new Muncie with a 2.98 1st gear and use an Advance adapters kit for the Tcase
@@GearBoxVideo can you not retrofit the lower first gears into an existing transmission?
I have an M22 and the AA adapter already in the jeep - just lusting after a lower first gear.
Yes you can. But the whole gearset needs to be changed. Not just a first gear
Do recommend a little 266 loctite thanks.
Always
Where do you get those case vent assemblies?
A company called Lube devices sells them. You can get them at Mcmaster-Carr or Mscdirect
Thanx, one more thing, how do you remove the backlash plate on the later cluster gears ?
New video on that being uploaded tonight

Cool thanks heli coil is half the price of time sert.
Too Bad advanced don't make one for a NP-A833
Not enough demand
