    As a 45 year experienced ASE technician I find your videos very valuable. I contacted you with a question about an issue with my personal C2 corvette and you responded very quick. I plan on buying a rebuild kit from you and gears as needed. Thank you.

    I have two 1969 m21s, the one needs work and yes it has a nail in the extension housing boss you were fixing. Nice work, well explained and no fluff. 👍👍🏁🏁

    Excellent in depth videos Paul. It took me ages to understand how a gearbox all worked together to shift the gears. I get it now after watching a lot of videos.

    Have you ever tried to just insert a steel rod in the pin hole and weld around once you have grind the cracks.
    As i know the two metals will not fuse together.
    It would allow you to keep the hole for the pin exactly where it was.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The steel will melt and contaminate your aluminum weld.

  • @dannylappe5498
    @dannylappe5498 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO. WORKING ON ONE NOW IN A 63 VETTE. HAD A QUESTION OR SUGGESTION POSSIBLY. WHEN YOU WELDED UP THE CRACKS, HOLES, WHY COULDNT YOU WELD ONE HOLE AND DRILL FROM THE OTHER SIDE, THEN WELD SECOND HOLE AND THEN REDRILL FROM THE FIRST SIDE? SEEMS THAT WOULD BE EASIER TO GET THE HOLE CORRECT.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a tapered hole. You have to ream it.

    Can you replace an input shaft without replacing the whole countergear? Someone told me it might cause excessive noise due to wear pattern of original countergear against new input shaft 4th gear.
    The input/4th gear had 2 broken teeth, all countergears look good.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have broken teeth I would always change the opposing gear

    Try to fix my spdo gear on the main shaft it looks plastic and is way to far forward can I replace it without disabiliing the whole transmission

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Since the plastic Speedo gears are held on with the clip. More than likely the clip has broken and the speedo gear has walked forward. This is a common problem with these gears since they fit rather loose. Yes, you will have to take the transmission apart and in my opinion replace it with a pressed on steel gear so that problem will never happen again

    Great video. Do you retexturize the aluminum to finish the weld repair?

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Johnson On restoration cases, yes. What i will do is find a grit sandpaper that matches the case texture and lay the paper on the sanded area and hit the paper with a hammer transferring the paper's texture onto the case.

    When using a autogear case and new front sealed bearing will you still see the oil weep hole on the shaft

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The sealed bearing just prevents oil from flowing out of the front too fast. However some of the new input shafts use an actual front seal.

    Any tips on getting the pin out? It's just smashing on me when I dry to drive it out from the bottom.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always heat the area before punching it out. You will have to grind a small section off the bottom to clear the area of the pin the spread, then use heat

    My shifter is vibrating loudly on my muncie transmission on my 70 chevelles. It will even do it in neutral if you take the rams to around 3000. I have seen others talking abut same problem. can you guide me what to check? thanks

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      jerry williams While in neutral with the clutch pedal pressed down, put the trans in gear and rev it up. If you still have a vibration it's on the flywheel clutch side

    Hey Paul, great job. Glad to see people who willing to spend their time to show others what probably took you years to learn the hard way. As an 'Ol retired machinist I would use a simple height gage with a travel indicator to find the center of the speedo loc pin. Again, great job.
