Always liked the 69-73 C body wagons (Dodge Monaco, Plymouth Fury Suburban, Chrysler Town & Country). Very nicely rounded and proportioned rear profile from both the rear and side view. The front end of the '69 model was a one year only design that was a preview of the full "loop" style front bumper that followed in 1970. The "super-lite" was a rare option that was only available for a couple of model years.
Very nice wagon. It’s always interesting to see cars like this - usually wagons and family cars were used and long gone after 10-15 years. Certainly not like this one 45 years later. Great restoration! Thanks for letting us see this classic.

My neighbor's Grandfather owns a flawless 1970 Plymouth Fury Suburban wagon with all the options. It is gorgeous! This Dodge Wagon is just beautiful inside and out.
I never knew these Dodges were left-hand start. I learned something new. My mom and dad used a carrier on the luggage racks on our '66 and '72 Ford Country Sedans, enabling me to ride 5 hours to the beach lying atop the rather warm rear axle area on a thin plastic mat with six adults and two more children in the car. And pimento cheese sandwiches and iced tea for lunch. Now that was loaded down and why we needed the big V8.

@@loucostabile I have a 1971 Honda that I will be riding in my retirement years. I want an old car also. I grew up with station wagons and I miss those times so much. When I was six years old, I went with my dad to pick up his brand new 1968 GTX that he ordered. I still remember the smell inside that brand new car. You can't recreate memories like that.
Such memories, dad had the same only in light blue. We had bags of room for the dogs, no problem towing our house trailer on long distance vacations. Only thing missing was the third seat and power windows. Thanks for featuring!

What a beautiful example! I had a very similar '69 Plymouth Suburban wagon with the 383 engine and 727 Torqueflite trans. Versatile, reliable, powerful, and easy to maintain. And BTW, that rear spoiler actually did do a rather good job of keeping road grime from swirling back into and accumulating on the rear window. Wish I still had it, haven't had such a reliable and versatile car since.

That thing is INCREDIBLY gorgeous! Two tone interior, the white especially, bucket/console in a WAGON! The extra chrome trim I've never seen before like that, Lucky family to have that beauty! I wouldn't have been surprised to see if it had a Hemi under the hood too, Lol!!
I've always wanted a wagon too so I bought a 72 country sedan because it was 2 miles from my house. I get tons of attention when I drive it. Seems like everyone can relate to them in some way. I would have preferred a mopar, but oh well. This Monaco is very special. Wow!
That is one great looking car Lou! My next door neighbor had one like this back in 1969, same color and everything. I remember he ordered it and it was delivered in eight weeks.
I had a 1962 Chevy II 6 cylinder station wagon in high School and around 1979 I had a 1968 Dodge Coronet Station Wagon with a 383. Not fancy but in great shape with AC and everything worked fine. Nice Posting. Thanks

Born in '66 and my family never had a wagon, but I still rode in the back of a few - though I don't remember any rear-facing seats, I do remember riding in the inboard side-facing seats. I love those wheel covers!
When I was a kid (1972) my parents got a Chrysler Town & Country, brand new. It was the same body style as this Dodge. It was a 3-seat wagon, and we took our family trips with it, until my parents replaced it in 1975 with another new one, same model. My dad always put the luggage up on the roof rack on all the family trips. And us kids always sat in the way back. Always. I can't believe how loud that car is on the inside. It shouldn't be that way. But I know a lot of people go for that now. Anyway it's a real beauty. Thanks.

I have never seen one like this. I always loved the chrome cap on the leading edge of the fenders and hood. The deep dish wheel covers look so nice. The bucket seats and console I have never seen either.

Hi, Lou! Well, here's another station wagon calling for my attention, and yes, any kid would be delighted to ride in the way back of this one! The Super-Lite was an exclusive option on the 1969 and 1970 Dodge Polara and Monaco. Basically, it functioned as an auxiliary to the low beams that could cast some extra light without the risk of blinding oncoming drivers with the high beams. The option didn't last long because many folks didn't quite understand how it worked, and it was ruled illegal in some states. The 1969 Polara and Monaco had actually started the year with a standard bumper, then in mid-model year, the designers made an interim change, giving them the full chrome grille frame you see on Dave's car to make it look like it had a full loop bumper. They got a real loop bumper for 1970. Many thanks to all of you for showing this awesome hauler! I would highly recommend it for anybody's mental health, and Dave and Diane have my personal invitation to join my station wagon club and get to know lots of other great station wagon folk!

Awesome station wagon with the bucket seats and console, I would've never expect to see a sports console in a full size wagon. The Americans 🇺🇸 made some great cars back in the days.
My parents gave me their 1966 Dodge Polara wagon. The Monaco brings back good memories. As a kid, I spent a lot of time in that early seat looking out that back window that was powered up and down👍

I grew up in a 1964 Chrysler New Yorker 9 passenger wagon. When us kids (5 of us) were told about the 3rd seat in our new car we couldn't wait to be the first ones to ride back there. The car did not have air conditioning so we'd drive with the rear window down a bit to alleviate the heat of summer. But with it down, even a little, engine exhaust would come in and everyone back there got car sick. And facing backwards did not help either with car sickness. Eventually no one wanted to sit back there.

Nice wagon. I daily drive a 2000 Taurus Wagon with the 3rd row seat and love it. I thought this channel was mostly for cars more than a few years old. Otherwise I would be more than a few years old. Its sad when the cars I remember being all over the roads are called antiques now. Love the show, dislike my ageing.

Its wonderful to see a wagon in such great condition. They had such a low survivability rate. Chrysler products of that era had fabulous air conditioning. Even with all that glass, it could keep the inside cool.
Beautiful wagon. You don't see them anymore. As a kid we always had ford Wagons. Great versatile vehicles. I've Buick Roadmaster wagons (95) 85 olds vista cruiser on blocks. And I Enjoyed a 91 gran marquis wgn. Which I'm sorry I let go. Love the wagons . Ride on brother

@@loucostabile I am subscribed and have had the bell active for a few years and I have seen many many of your videos that I have liked and that have brought back memories. There are some cars I don't think you have had videos on that I would love to see but to see more videos on specific vehicles from my past is too much to expect when you have so many fantastic cars to choose from. I wish I still had pictures of the cars I had but they were lost in a house fire
Dad a '68 Dodge Monaco wagon . The luggage rack was full of luggage tied down with a water-proof tarpaulin on every trip. Mom and Dad and my six siblings and I . had all nine seats occupied. . Dad's Monaco didn't have the third eye, nor the console (every seat was required with nine family members) . But , it did have a second air conditioner mounted on the ceiling between the second and third row seats. Everyone was cool as a cucumber

Beautiful restoration! My first car was a 1969 Dodge Polara 4-door sedan with the 383 4 barrel. It was a retired police car and it wasn't cool to be seen in for 18-year old me! 😂
Wow. What a wagon. The floor shift / console adds coolness to it. Now, if was available with 4 on the floor. There wouldn't be a child around who'd refuse a ride in it. And for matter some grown-ups too.
I stopped and looked this car over at Carlisle this year, and I thought this was one of the nicest cars there. The paint looked flawless. Also explained what a superlight was to a couple of guys who were wondering. The family car between '69 and '73 was a Monaco with that light option. Bronze metallic with a black vinyl roof and heavy gauge black vinyl interior. 383 2 barrel single exhaust.

MOPAR had the practice for many years of putting bucket seats in vehicles that GM and Ford did not. I remember reading before that by this time Dodge had really lost its place in the Chrysler heirarchy of price due to the Newport's success. These fuselage wagons were just about the ultimate expression of that styling.

@@loucostabile The other thing to keep in mind, Lou, is that from at least 1960 to the mid seventies, MOPAR was the only American producer offering a rear second a/c. It was offered in the huge and beautiful Imperial, but also in the large station wagons. Growing up here on the Texas Gulf Coast, we would see these units. A good friend of mine as a boy was his parents' Town & Country wagon, more than one of them--all had the second a/c unit mounted above the second seat with outlets that blew cold air forward and to the rear window. Even in one hundred degree heat, everyone in the car could be comfortable, if not freezing! An expensive option, though. This is such a beautiful wagon, kudos to the couple saving it!
My Dad had one, with the super light, ours was green. Then he moved up to the Chrysler Town and Country. This thing is like New, awesome. I believe we had a 383 and aftermarket a/c, it would overheat.

When I was six years old, I went with my dad to pick up his brand new 1968 GTX that he ordered. I still remember the smell inside that brand new car. You can't recreate memories like that.
Such memories, dad had the same only in light blue. We had bags of room for the dogs, no problem towing our house trailer on long distance vacations. Only thing missing was the third seat and power windows. Thanks for featuring!

What a beautiful example! I had a very similar '69 Plymouth Suburban wagon with the 383 engine and 727 Torqueflite trans. Versatile, reliable, powerful, and easy to maintain. And BTW, that rear spoiler actually did do a rather good job of keeping road grime from swirling back into and accumulating on the rear window. Wish I still had it, haven't had such a reliable and versatile car since.

I've always wanted a wagon too so I bought a 72 country sedan because it was 2 miles from my house. I get tons of attention when I drive it. Seems like everyone can relate to them in some way. I would have preferred a mopar, but oh well. This Monaco is very special. Wow!

Born in '66 and my family never had a wagon, but I still rode in the back of a few - though I don't remember any rear-facing seats, I do remember riding in the inboard side-facing seats.

When I was a kid (1972) my parents got a Chrysler Town & Country, brand new. It was the same body style as this Dodge. It was a 3-seat wagon, and we took our family trips with it, until my parents replaced it in 1975 with another new one, same model. My dad always put the luggage up on the roof rack on all the family trips. And us kids always sat in the way back. Always.
I can't believe how loud that car is on the inside. It shouldn't be that way. But I know a lot of people go for that now. Anyway it's a real beauty. Thanks.

I have never seen one like this. I always loved the chrome cap on the leading edge of the fenders and hood. The deep dish wheel covers look so nice. The bucket seats and console I have never seen either.

Hi, Lou! Well, here's another station wagon calling for my attention, and yes, any kid would be delighted to ride in the way back of this one!
The Super-Lite was an exclusive option on the 1969 and 1970 Dodge Polara and Monaco. Basically, it functioned as an auxiliary to the low beams that could cast some extra light without the risk of blinding oncoming drivers with the high beams. The option didn't last long because many folks didn't quite understand how it worked, and it was ruled illegal in some states. The 1969 Polara and Monaco had actually started the year with a standard bumper, then in mid-model year, the designers made an interim change, giving them the full chrome grille frame you see on Dave's car to make it look like it had a full loop bumper. They got a real loop bumper for 1970.
Many thanks to all of you for showing this awesome hauler! I would highly recommend it for anybody's mental health, and Dave and Diane have my personal invitation to join my station wagon club and get to know lots of other great station wagon folk!

My parents gave me their 1966 Dodge Polara wagon. The Monaco brings back good memories. As a kid, I spent a lot of time in that early seat looking out that back window that was powered up and down👍

I grew up in a 1964 Chrysler New Yorker 9 passenger wagon. When us kids (5 of us) were told about the 3rd seat in our new car we couldn't wait to be the first ones to ride back there. The car did not have air conditioning so we'd drive with the rear window down a bit to alleviate the heat of summer. But with it down, even a little, engine exhaust would come in and everyone back there got car sick. And facing backwards did not help either with car sickness. Eventually no one wanted to sit back there.

Nice wagon. I daily drive a 2000 Taurus Wagon with the 3rd row seat and love it. I thought this channel was mostly for cars more than a few years old. Otherwise I would be more than a few years old. Its sad when the cars I remember being all over the roads are called antiques now. Love the show, dislike my ageing.

Its wonderful to see a wagon in such great condition. They had such a low survivability rate. Chrysler products of that era had fabulous air conditioning. Even with all that glass, it could keep the inside cool.

@@loucostabile I am subscribed and have had the bell active for a few years and I have seen many many of your videos that I have liked and that have brought back memories. There are some cars I don't think you have had videos on that I would love to see but to see more videos on specific vehicles from my past is too much to expect when you have so many fantastic cars to choose from. I wish I still had pictures of the cars I had but they were lost in a house fire
Dad a '68 Dodge Monaco wagon . The luggage rack was full of luggage tied down with a water-proof tarpaulin on every trip. Mom and Dad and my six siblings and I . had all nine seats occupied. . Dad's Monaco didn't have the third eye, nor the console (every seat was required with nine family members) . But , it did have a second air conditioner mounted on the ceiling between the second and third row seats. Everyone was cool as a cucumber

I stopped and looked this car over at Carlisle this year, and I thought this was one of the nicest cars there. The paint looked flawless. Also explained what a superlight was to a couple of guys who were wondering. The family car between '69 and '73 was a Monaco with that light option. Bronze metallic with a black vinyl roof and heavy gauge black vinyl interior. 383 2 barrel single exhaust.

MOPAR had the practice for many years of putting bucket seats in vehicles that GM and Ford did not. I remember reading before that by this time Dodge had really lost its place in the Chrysler heirarchy of price due to the Newport's success. These fuselage wagons were just about the ultimate expression of that styling.

@@loucostabile The other thing to keep in mind, Lou, is that from at least 1960 to the mid seventies, MOPAR was the only American producer offering a rear second a/c. It was offered in the huge and beautiful Imperial, but also in the large station wagons. Growing up here on the Texas Gulf Coast, we would see these units. A good friend of mine as a boy was his parents' Town & Country wagon, more than one of them--all had the second a/c unit mounted above the second seat with outlets that blew cold air forward and to the rear window. Even in one hundred degree heat, everyone in the car could be comfortable, if not freezing! An expensive option, though. This is such a beautiful wagon, kudos to the couple saving it!
