The coat is lovely and really suits you. Re vintage machines: my very favorite machine is a 1940 Singer 201. She is decadent to sew with. If you find either a 201, or a 15, you might want to grab her. Huge harp space, utterly stable, sews through MONSTER material...
I managed to find a 191K manual machine. Just like my mum's machine that I learnt to sew on. I know from mum's experience that it will sew anything from leather to satin and without throwing a hissy fit like my modern machine tends to do. It's a monster, made of pig iron but I love it.
@@expatpiskie All 3 of my WWII era machines are black iron. They are so forgiving. I prefer to use a zigzag attachment on one of them than to grit my teeth with the modern machine. (The modern machine is at high risk of being sold.)
It turned out wonderfully! You look great in it!😁 I have a similarly thick & roomy hooded "housecoat" which I "live" in most of the year. I love it so much! I've been subscribed since around the Wheel of Time piece, which Bernadette linked, I believe. There's so much I live about your videos. I especially enjoy listening to you speak, and share your thoughts. If you accept requests, please consider more of the Feline Sotto Voice, I find it delightfully healing 🌞
What a cute coat! Welcome back. Hope you are feeling better. Very jealous that that is your warmest coat. Would not be enough here is southern Ontario.
The coat turned out wonderful! LOVE the colours! Does walking in it make you feel more confident? I have a long wool coat of my own and wearing it somehow makes me feel more powerful just from the swooshing of the lower half when I walk around. 😅 And I completely understand wanting to use the old sewing machine more, my machine is from the late 50's (or early 60's) and newer machines just feel weak and flimsy in comparison. I'll keep this cast iron workhorse, thanks.
On the sewing machine thing: out of all the sewing machines I have, the oldest (a 1930's/1940's 15k88) works the best. (it even has the manual and a few different feet.)
This is a beautiful coat. It looks great and I'm glad that wearing it has made you love what you would have changed about it. It reminds me that I should eat the makes I don't immediately love and see if they do the same.
Hello! Google has been eavesdropping so it fed me this video. I'm currently working on a 1940's coat myself, but adapting it from a dress pattern, so I've been watching videos for vintage coat construction. Yours turned out very nice! I also have a Featherweight and I love it. If it only had a zigzag I would use it all the time! I bet you can get your own so you don't have to murder your mother. 😆
I am obsessed with vintage singers... but my drug of choice is the slant-o-matics. I learned on a rocketeer, which I will not be murdering my mother for... but I made her put it in her will to me, because damn it's amazing. I own a 403 and I swear by the slightly higher shank of the slant shank machines... but vintage singer are beasts. They just keep on truckin. I hope you find a vintage machine of your own to love, because you will never go back... or you'll buy and industrial, but they take up so much room...
YOU'RE BACK!!!!! 😍💗💚 Love how thicc and chunky the cuffs are, amazed at how perfectly the pattern at the front lines up, the green hair bandana (?) is very fabulous. Lmfao at the brief but well though out talk of "murder". This adventure was so cool!! Loved it so much. And the fingers guns ^_^
I use an old featherweight for sewing myself and I noticed 2 things during your video: 1) The needle is not supposed to move when winding the bobbin 2) That squeaking noise may indicate insufficient lubrication, which can damage the motor over time and make sewing harder than it needs to be. Great job and I love the old Singer!
i bought this pattern on ebay 4 years ago for a cosplay and realized JUST TODAY that the front and sleeve piece (no.2 in the pattern) is missing..... i'm really thankful for your video because at least i get to see what it looks like and give myself an idea of how to manage without the missing piece lol 😭 your coat ended up great, i loved the fabric you choose. if it all goes well i might make myself a similar one
One of my ultimate sewing goals is to recreate an ankle length vintage coat I've had for ages that no longer fits, so this video is really helpful for me! Also, that coat turned out wonderfully!
It’s gorgeous! As a fellow shortie 5’2” I was concerned about the huge cuffs as I thought they might overwhelm your frame - but actually they look awesome! You definitely are rocking it 🥰
I love the coat! ❤ You made it look so doable as well! I am glad you love it and it is warm (many times I have found that gorgeous coats are not also warm coats). Thank you for sharing this wonderful process
I'm so glad you're back! I hope you are feeling better. My Grandma is wearing a similar coat in my Mum's christening photos, it is stunning. You did a fabulous job
Hi Emily , so glad I just found your channel …. Really enjoyed your video …. I’ve just bought my first ever wool fabric to make myself a coat …. I have learnt loads from your video, so hopefully all will go well when I get around to making mine xxx
Really nice meeting you on the train! Also did the adhd uk self assessment thing and yeah… pretty sure you were right about adhd people being friends 😂 Going to binge your videos and book in with a GP I think!
Wonderful work on a masterpiece!! ✨️ Note to self: somehow acquire a Hamish, they are very helpful.
"No bad thing can come from checking" goes up on my list of Sewing Commandments.
The finished coat is très chic 👌
Oh that is DARLING.
Glad you had access to a good machine for all this heavy fabric!
Waouh !! Fantastique manteau d’hiver ! J’aime aussi beaucoup ta jupe fushia !!
Je suis ravie de t’avoir découverte 👍🏻
À bientôt !!
🌸🌸🌸
I hope you and yours are well. I have missed the madness that is your videos. Great gift for your mom 💯✌️🤟🤟

Glad to see you back. Hopefully all is well now or on the road to being better.

The coat looks lovely, and you look fab in it. You could now make an evening coat and a summer coat using the same pattern as it really suits you 😺🪡🇬🇧

So good to see you again! Love the green hair and the new coat, too. Cuddle you kitties for me, would you?

It is lovely! You look fabulous wearing it!
The final jacket looks amazing! The description of the pocket insertion sounds like a pain to do.
I love the coat! ❤ You made it look so doable as well! I am glad you love it and it is warm (many times I have found that gorgeous coats are not also warm coats). Thank you for sharing this wonderful process
So elegant! So Audrey Hepburn!
Absolutely lovely. Looks great with that skirt too. I would like to try that "pre-made button hole" jam.
I'm so glad you're back! I hope you are feeling better.

Glad you are back. Coat is lovely on you.
Yay Ms Snee! Always cheers me up when you upload xx
Ugh this is just contributing to my desire to find a featherweight to try which is NOT HELPFUL. Fab coat!!!

Lovely! It looks so comfy and warm. 💜
Ooh, it’s a delightful coat!! 💕
Aww love the sewing machine, and the gifting of it! 😀
So happy to see a video, and the coat is glorious ❤️
Could you do a tutorial on how you attached the sleeve cuffs, please?
Beautiful coat!!
I like that style a lot.
This is gorgeous! Amazing sewing ❤️
Adorable and cute. But isn’t it a bit too open for winter weather?
Really nice meeting you on the train!
Also did the adhd uk self assessment thing and yeah… pretty sure you were right about adhd people being friends 😂

😂😂 called it! It was lovely to meet you as well and to have such a nice chat! ☺️
I got myself a Featherweight last year!
It’s so beautiful! And it looks great on you!
Somehow I missed this video 😣
Yay, congrats on the coat. It looks so cozy (and happened with a fairly low amount of chaos by this channel's standards?)
😍
