It's happened 4 other times in presidential elections that we've forgotten just as well. The president who ostensibly wins the count, even if it's well within a margin of error, wins most states without a possibility of a recount. People mismark their selections, change their signatures, cast in the wrong precincts. The margin of error for counting votes is well above the margin of victory required for a recount in most states.

th-cam.com/video/jucDFrO89Ko/w-d-xo.html Al Gore actually won, he was cheated out of power.
If Gore had won New Hampshire, he would have won the Electoral College 271 to 267. He lost NH by only 7,211 votes. I think that his campaign manager failed him by not investing enough in NH, and his election team in general really should have sussed out the ballot design in Palm Beach County well before the election. The state law required a recount and the officials in charge of counting stopped the recount and blatantly admitted in this documentary they were trying to do anything to stifle any possibility of otherwise by blocking the recount.
If it was rigged, the Democrats rigged it against themselves, by approving the Butterfly Ballot. Then again, they probably came to the rightful conclusion, that anybody with an IQ above 60, would easily be able to navigate that not very difficult ballot.

Luckily Biden won by 8 million votes not half a million so it was much easier to decide. It was scary how long it took for them to count the votes though.
West Virginia (a blue state up to the point) and New Hampshire were why Gore lost, not Florida. If he wins one of those two states, he would have won the election.
Al Gore and his team made several ENORMOUS mistakes. First one was him conceding so quickly. Second was them agreeing to the butterfly ballot and signing off on it. Third was only initially recounting the votes in 4 democratic counties. If they would have just made smarter decisions all around, Gore just might have won if a full recount was done and it would have shown Gore the winner. In the end Bush beat Gore by an official 537 votes. In the end either way, if all the votes were recounted, it’s my opinion, that neither party would have won by more than 100-200 votes, be it Bush or Gore. But as the final words of this program say, we’ll never know.
19:40 is the most telling - Baker “we would’ve lost [if it had remained at state level” no all that would’ve happened is the recount would have happened and would not have been stopped. Why so terrified unless he knew the recount would have gone against Bush?
Do you remember ANY of the controversy playing out on NATIONAL TV? The Dems were freaked the fuck out by 'hanging Chad's, and "dimpled chads" hoping to find more Gore Votes....
Because the founding fathers didnt like democracy. They wanted a republic to restrain majority rules. Its kims of like having 2 wolves and a sheep deciding what to eat for dinner. In 2016 im glad we had the electorla college cause hillary for sure did not deserve to win.
@@FieldMarshalRommel23 States decides the President not the people. People only select the State's Representors. So that States with Large population may not drown the voices of States with small population with diametrically opposite set of policy preference.
The biggest problem I see with US elections then (and perhaps even to this day) is that state representatives (such as Katherine Harris) are in charge of the counts and the insane degrees of partisanship at play during elections. INCREDIBLE conflicts of interest. Each state should have their own non-partisan elections associations to run clean and unbiased elections (with easy to understand ballots I will add). That's one thing we have in Canada that I'm proud of
@@Korijenkins1414How so? Is it that "dumb" or "bold" to say there should be a system based on federalism to protect the influence of states like WY, AK, VT, and DE?
It's total idiocy. The Constitution never gave an individual citizen the right to vote for president at all, let alone leaving the decision up to mob rule in the popular vote. This is a country of United STATES and the States elect the president of the country. Leaving it up to a popular vote would have only highly populated areas being catered and campaigned to, as opposed to having a candidate that has to campaign and reach voters all the way across the entire country. The electoral college is an ingenious design and just because it sometimes means your side loses that's no reason to throw it out.
@@tobyrucker1787 Instead of candidates campaigning across the country, we have few battle ground states that determine the result. Would've been better ifit was actually focused on popilated areas where all the voters are.
Gore couldn’t even win his home state of Tennessee. That should tell you everything you need to know about Gore. If he had won Tennessee, Florida would have never come into play.
America electoral system and judiciary is too politicised. How can someone on the campaign of a contender be the one incharge of administration of the elections. There should be an independent electoral administration body.
I'm an Independent and that year I didn't vote. Tipper Gore was a scourge and Bush's only saving grace was Dick Cheney. 2024 will probably be a repeat. The two front runners are both too old. I won't vote.

So if the world had an alternate timeline where Gore was the US President, we probably coulda had Obama a bit later than 2008, and Trump much, much later than 2016.
@@LucaMatoke I think Trump may have never happened, only because his decision to run seemed to come directly from being embarrassed by Obama. But it’s hard to say if any of these people would have followed Gore since even Obama was a direct reaction to Bush fumbling America. Maybe McCain would have done a better job and we could have still had republican presidents following that. It’s definitely a butterfly effect type of situation.
@LucaMatoke I dont think Trump would have been president in this alternate timeline. Each president switch is due to the voters wanting something different, it seems. Bill Clinton was president was there for 8 years. Then Bush for 8. Bush was a disaster so Obama gets 8 years. Change is a big thing they seem to say they're fighting for. And trump got in for 4 years as a change from the Obama era. Americans were tired of Trump's antics and his response to covid so Biden gets in for 4 years. If Al Gore had won in 2000. The parties would switch. McCain would probably had won after Gore. Then Obama gets elected afterwards. It's so mind blowing to think about it.

I was a young kid in 2000. Had no idea that election played out like that.
I was 16 and no idea who was even running as my sophomore year in high school was most stressful ever and took over my life.
I thought Gore’s quote was “you don’t have to get huffy”?
Would love to exist in a timeline where Gore won. It definitely wouldn't be as hot a mess as this one.
Al Gore would be a perfect candidates for 2028 election. Maybe just 1 term is enough because it would be 80 years if he won.
Funny how President Carter who is 100 run for a 2nd term and Gore runs in 2032 after Carter serving his final term in office over 100 lol. Love them both
Had i been old enough at the time to vote Id most assuredly voted for Gore, however, the "Sore/Loserman" signs people had were hilarious.
Only time I voted Democrat. It was clear George W was a loser. What I didn't know was how evil he was.
This is a good example how bad graphic design can affect the world.
There is always error in any process. This election was too close to where the error played a factor.
Now we all know jeb stole that election for his brother

Still thoroughly enjoyable to watch.
The worst mess in my life, 2020 came too come to this mess
Biden won 7 million more votes so it’s a clear winner
Luckily Biden won by 8 million votes not half a million so it was much easier to decide. It was scary how long it took for them to count the votes though.
I think the 2000 election was a "logical" mess and 2020's as the idiotic mess. They both under some-what different circumstances.
West Virginia (a blue state up to the point) and New Hampshire were why Gore lost, not Florida. If he wins one of those two states, he would have won the election.
Extremely well analyzed, eight votes that should have been in Gore's hip pocket and were not would have rendered Florida meaningless.
The sad thing this last election told that one, bitch sit down and hold my beer. I am hopeful we will see the end at some point.
He should have won his home state of Tennessee and bills home state of Arkansas.
@@ricardokessler4186 - New Hampshire isn't as conservative as Tennessee and should have been easier for him to win.
@@davidmata9952 Tennessee was very moderate at the time and bill was popular there. Al gore and his father were both senators from there.
What would have happened in 2000 if there was a 4-4 vote count in Supreme Court?
19:40 is the most telling - Baker “we would’ve lost [if it had remained at state level” no all that would’ve happened is the recount would have happened and would not have been stopped. Why so terrified unless he knew the recount would have gone against Bush?
Do you remember ANY of the controversy playing out on NATIONAL TV? The Dems were freaked the fuck out by 'hanging Chad's, and "dimpled chads" hoping to find more Gore Votes....
Why were they only going to recount the 3 major democrat counties?
@@JXY2019the Florida Supreme Court ordered a statewide recount no ?
@jameshacker8808, if I remember correctly, the democrats only wanted to recount certain counties instead of the entire state.
It should be one man, one vote, whoever gets the most vote wins. Please explain why it isn’t this way?
Because the founding fathers didnt like democracy. They wanted a republic to restrain majority rules. Its kims of like having 2 wolves and a sheep deciding what to eat for dinner. Personally when it comes to election 2000. I think Gore won. And suck he was not elected he would have continued his bosses surplus. In 2016 im glad we had the electorla college cause hillary for sure did not deserve to win.

That's one thing we have in Canada that I'm proud of
The First Election I voted in.
Was 21 years old
That’s why the electoral college should be gone. Popular vote should win.
Then why even have separate states or a 10th Amendment?
@@a.ghostwriter Arguing that popular vote shouldn't matter more than the electoral college is a bold and dumb position to take.
Great insight!
Wow Florida was blue
Every single time that the popular vote is not followed the USA loses. The world would be a different place if Al Gore would have been president. :(

Totally agree. A lot of us Republicans who are old enough feel that way. We don't want the neocons back.
@alsandoukb I disagree with your opinion. My opinion is that George w bush was always better president than Trump any day. And it turns out you were wrong about George W Bush, and get over it at once!

The sim went nuts when it hit y2k
Y2K brought us George and his brain damaged leadership.
Manson prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi adapted his book “The Prosecution of GW Bush for Murder” into a well done documentary “The Prosecution of an American President”
Well at least 4 years later that brain damaged Bush was voted out of office, right? Oh.. hang on..
So if the world had an alternate timeline where Gore was the US President, we probably coulda had Obama a bit later than 2008, and Trump much, much later than 2016.
We would’ve never had either. Gore would’ve been president during the recession so we probably would’ve got president John McCain
It'd be Gore 2000-08, McCain 2008-16 and Obama 2016-24. Then Biden/Trump 2024-. Just my thoughts.
@@LucaMatoke Probably Trump in 2024.
