I just bought a nice 93 vr4 and rebuilt the engine with all new internals, rebuilt transmission, super nice. I took the car to firestone for an alignment and a week later the driver side ball joint came loose when i was getting off the interstate on a 360 degree off ramp. Put me into the wall hard and totaled the car. I was livid and I'm still super salty about it this happened back in 2015.

THANK you for a detailed list!!!! i ALWAYS found it laughable 😂 😂 when i would see guys modify the hell out of their car and not the maintenance 🤦🏾♂️!!!! Fucking dumb 🤦🏾♂️!!!!
Not a bad list, but timing tensioner should be on there, and it especially should be OEM, rest of the items are less critical, but if nothing else, the tensioner should be. Also checking for a caved oil pan should be one of the first things done, there's very little clearance to the oil sump, people support the engine by the oil pan during TB changes (fairly standard practice to be fair) and it can cave the pan, and it only takes a little bit to cause oil starvation (leading to spun bearings) since the sump clearance is so small to begin with.
Look up "free boost mod" for first gen engines. Gives you the 320 hp of the 2nd gen by increasing the diameter of a vacuum line on the wastegate solenoid. You just pull a small plug from the connector and voila. No supporting mods or reflash needed.
After owning a total of 6 TT Dodge stealths same as the 3000GT VR4. Maintenance comes first and then the first mod is the y-pipe if not and you run more than stock boost you'll forever blow that damn thing off. I miss the days of dynamic racing and Matt.
I know Cats are expensive and reduce flow, but suggesting something that will make a car illegal in many states isn't a good tip in my opinion. Maybe suggest gi flow cats instead?
That's wrong, all 2g are the stronger 25spline. 91s are all 18spline small bearing, 92 are mostly 18spline, but some 92s built after I believe August 91 can come with either a larger bearing 18 spline or the 25 spline, all 93 & newer are 25 spline. 93 is the best year to get as it not only has the better trans & tcase but 93 is also the 1st year with 4bolt mains & a forged crank where as 91/92 are only 2 bolt mains & cast crank. The 93 5spd 25spline is the best even over the 2nd gen 6spds because the 93 has longer gearing giving you a longer boost range, also the 1st gens are better looking...
I’m about to buy a NA 3000gt people are telling me the parts are expensive maintenace is high what parts are making the 3000gt expensive what makes it expensive?
It really depends, I wouldn’t say these cars are crazy expensive to maintain, but it depends a lot of the condition of the car and what all you need to replace. Since these cars are like 30 years old there’s a lot of them out there that haven’t been taken care of very well so they end up needing a lot of stuff replaced and that can add up quick. An NA 3000gt is also going to be easier and cheaper to maintain the a turbo model. If these cars are taken care of and maintained properly then the maintenance really isn’t that bad at all in my experience. Oem parts that are no longer being made can get expensive and hard to find, but there’s lots of parts out there that are actually pretty reasonably priced.
Realistically you're going to have to go out of state. I live in PA and got mine from NY, and I still had to compromise, wanted a green 93 vr4 with moonroof, wound up with a red one. Which something like 50% of these were red, it grew on me though, still think I would have liked green better. But now it's purple anyways which is better than either, as it's my favorite color, lol.
rear motor mount moment bought car felt a thunk when shifting from first to 2nd and when i got home after a 3 hr drive i checked the motor mounts rear motor mount GONE rubber bushing is gone just the metal but all the rubber gone
Any negative impacts to keeping the exhaust quiet? I'm after the element of surprise. As in, the rest of the car is fully built BUT, it doesn't sound like it. Is it possible to achieve 500-600awhp w/ a silent exhaust?
These cars are 30 years old and up ... Just keep them stock and dont go pushing hp/boost and ruining them... If you want horsepower, then go buy an hellcat or something similar... Just enjoy the cars as they are fantastisc pieces of technology from a time where similar cars were miles behind.

3000gt vr4 is probably one of the coolest cars out there👌

This has been disproven. Don't do this it destroys your boost systems
Previous owners neglected maintenance and im dealing with a full rebuild right now. (91 vr4 in Jamaican blue)
Sorry to hear that man, at least you’ll have a fresh engine thats exactly how you want it when you’re done
Scary asf but I salute you for being brave enough👍
Ayyy same here man, got a 91 vr4 Jamaican blue and I’m fully rebuilding kt
I’ve been rebuilding my 92’ in Fiji blue for a few weeks. Timing belt slipped off and bent half my valves 😢

def in my top 10 fav japanese cars. so pretty and underrated (imo more beautiful than the RX-7 FD)
I agree with most of what he says, but I would say Fuel Sending Unit replacement over exhaust, wheels or suspension.
This was very helpful as I just bought a 92 vr-4 and have been wondering what (non cosmetic) mods to do first

Bro I absolutely love your channel, you´re convincing me to buy one like yours
Love to hear it man! Thank you! And you definitely should, they’re amazing cars!
Bro, GREAT video!!!! Well explained!!!!
I know this is 2 years old but Autometer is NOT cheap. They are the top of the line.
@@themeez1000 yes they are very good gauges, they just have some cheaper options compared to other brands, still very good gauges though.
@@RostenDrives yeah their AutoGage line is cheaper, but the Auto Meter line is very high end.

18 spline 2G drivetrain with T-case bracing , and 300m output shaft on tranny to t-case. While your in there upgrade the clutch and flywheel

Hey im looking to buy a 91 3000gt and it has 118,000 miles on it but it seems pretty low for a 30 year old car, is that normal for these cars?
Yeah that’s pretty normal, lots of people would even say that’s pretty low miles
I want a 93 as my first car
Fuel filter isn't a service part. You'll know this after you read the service manual.
What dimensions are your wheels
Konig Hypergram 18x9.5 +25

#6: engine swap ;-)
The relay kit is by far the worst mod you can do to the car.
