    Fascinating how you used such a complex method of animating the movement of the phone in C4D. I'm certain there are key reasons for doing it this way. My job is to figure out why. Learned a lot from this tut. Thanks!

      Thanks for watching, yeah it can seem a bit overkill but the goal was to show how to get a mograph animated object over to After effect. Keyframed animations doesn't need all the baking process.

      Merci Julien, content que ça puisse aider ! De manière générale lorsque je fais des rendus par passe, je fais un rendu d'une image avec toutes les passes pour voir celles qui peuvent être utiles (ça peut aussi permettre d'identifier d'où vient le bruit dans l'image), au rendu de l'animation je garde uniquement celles dont j'ai besoin . C'est un peu au cas par cas . J'espère que je réponds à la question 😀

    Thank you for the great tutorial!!! I was getting a weird delay with the solid in after-effects and it just was not lining up. It was driving me crazy, I figured out if I shifted the keyframes on the screen position null back one keyframe it resolved the issue. I'm not sure why this was happening but at least its working. Hopefully, this helps anyone else having the same issue.

    • @gillesdillenseger6472
      @gillesdillenseger6472  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your feedback , the issue probably comes from a priority issue in the constraints, the order of the objects in object manager is important as well. Those priorities in C4D can sometimes be a pain to solve

    This is very useful; thank you for going into so much detail. One part of the puzzle that's still missing for me is how to adapt pre-built models (iPads, laptops, phones). We do a lot of this screen replacement work, and all of the models we find are very different - sometimes with UVs, and sometimes with strange GEO. It can be tricky to know what the best approach is.

    If you set the orientation of the screen correctly in C4D you will not have to jump through hoops in after effects to make the screen line up. It will automatically be oriented correctly

    Hey, again, Gilles! Returning to this excellent tutorial once more, and I have two questions.
    1. Why do you use an expresso tag on the null instead of just dropping a null as a child of the phone? Is it something to do with the fact it's in a cloner with effectors? If I have a setup without cloners, I assume I don't need to go through this process?
    2. Once the plane is created, why do you use a constraint to link the new null? Can't you just put the new 'screen position' null as a child of the new plane?
    Thank you again for your work and help.

    • @gillesdillenseger6472
      @gillesdillenseger6472  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks for the feed back ,
      1. yes the idea here was to get the global position/orientation of the phone
      2. this part was to adjust the position of the screen manually (and also get the global position of it, in the world) otherwise if the null is a child of the plane it's position would be local and depending of the planes position (hope it makes sense)
      after effect only understands global positions/rotations, if the objects are in a hierarchy it starts to fall appart, I hope this answers your question 😀

    • @gillesdillenseger6472
      @gillesdillenseger6472  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, it's hard to determine the exact issue without more details about your process. However, here are a few suggestions: make sure there's only one camera in your After Effects composition (the one extracted from the C4D file), ensure that the baked object for your screen data in Cinema 4D is at the root of your scene (not nested under another object). Let me know if this helps! Sorry, I’m on vacation and won’t have access to Cinema 4D until the end of the month.

    • @Skedooosh
      @Skedooosh หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gillesdillenseger6472 Thanks for answering even though you're on vacation. It still does not work. I can send you the file if you want but right now I have different camera's with each a control rig (from Tim Clapham/HelloLuxx). Each rig is inside a stage object. Laptop is inside the a null. The null has a xpresso tag that controls rotation of screen. Finally I have nulls & constraints on top kinda similar to yours (kinda hard to describe it here). Thanks!

    • @gillesdillenseger6472
      @gillesdillenseger6472  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh, I see! You should also bake the cameras then. The idea is to create a new camera for each original camera using a PSR constraint and then bake the new camera, similar to what I'm doing with the null "screen position" starting around 10:40. All the baked objects (including the screen object and the cameras) should be placed at the root of the hierarchy. Each camera view in After Effects should have its own precomp with the corresponding camera. I hope this explanation makes sense!

    For the screen with the Puzzle Matte on it, why is it when I move it outside of the glass, I can see the red in the render preview. But when I put that same object with the Puzzle Matte behind the glass (meaning the screen is inside the phone now), the red in the render doesn't show up? All I see is black. And then when I export it, the matte doesn't work in after effects if the screen is inside the phone, but it works when the screen is outside the phone.

    • @neil5819
      @neil5819 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gillesdillenseger6472 I didn’t really find an exact solution. I had to render out the phone without the glass. Even though the glass is fully transparent, it still blocks the puzzle matte for some reason. Not sure why. So I just didn’t render the glass. But it doesn’t look quite right without seeing that glass. Also, I couldn’t get the refraction pass to work. It would always render out as black. So I had to render out the specular pass instead and that seemed to work.

      I encountered the same problem, so I’m writing an answer to save someone time. In the AOV manager for PuzzleMatte, you need to activate the Reflect/Refract IDs checkbox, then the masks will be visible in the render even if they are behind the glass.
      16:54 There was an edit here, and the checkbox was activated off-screen.

Note that the S26 is a kind of "mid year" release, the "R" is for the full release that usually comes out in september. Maybe the current version of After effect doesn't support S26 and the problem will be solved once the full release is available . I'm not sure why you have this issue, I'm just guessing here.
